Will WoW players have any chance at PVP?

Large mass of WoW players is on AOC forums and spreading more and more. Look here and see what will await you if you come from WoW to AOC to PVP.

Something like this i will wrote down bellow is your normal WoW playing.

Mostly WoW players can choise from alot of servers... from normal to only PVP. World PVP is dead while they got arenas and battlegrounds where they only lose some litle gold geting from damage of mobs. They dont lose any exp. items or lvls, while their bigest battleground is 80 man and single character dies in like 4-7 seconds. Guild are mostly unorganizied and lacking of good players. It's true there are few but these few are geting "ganked" by stupids with guild hoping.

 L2 players & PVP:

When they entered their game, they had to learn the cruel side of l2. Pving since the lvl 1 and sometimes develed to lvl 1 from lvl 60+ if you made some serius enemys. They live for pvp, The whole world is almost in no stop PVP. The sieges are mostly 500+ man big while normal aliance is 150+ man big. They guild system does not allow guild/clan hoping as in WoW. L2 players get 5 days penatly. Mostly they stay in one guild/clan. The guild/clan are structured ordered. Those guilds/clan which are lacking of leadership are mostly fast eat by enemys... so they disband prety fast.

Some hints from L2 player to WoW player.

They donno what is dps but if youl make enemy with them. I woud prefer you to rerol on other server, becouse they will delevel you.

SWG players & PVP:

Their managment is impresive. They like to plan out things to detail. Some of them are living for honor and some for pvp. They dont fear 3vs1 or 5vs1 fights becouse they know they got a chance to win. Mostly SWG players are 90% adults which dont allow mistakes to their self. Guild/clan structures are mostly from old veterans and their size 100-300+ man big.

Some hints from SWG player to WoW player.

Same as l2 players, they donno what is dps. But you can be sure they will hunt you down in masses. Their tactics are perfect and that you shoud be afraid.

 Guild Wars players & PVP:

They are small in number, but they like good skills and a lot of pvp. Making the pefrect build for their character is more then gold and items at pvp. As fas as i have seen they like to make tactic atacks and to see a long pvp is their yoj. Guild are rather small and are oriented on pvp or pve.

Some hints from GW player to WoW player.

Once it comes to arena fight, they are serius arena killers.

This was a short list of "features enemys" that will await WoW players at AOC.

If you got a short story about any other mmorpg which woud fit here, send me a pm. So WoW players can prepare :).

Will they stand a chance? Yeah, considering the fact that none of us have played in this style of combat before everyone starts off on an even level.

Kind of lame to assume because someone is coming from WoW that they will automatically suck in AoC.

PvP is different from game to game and players that love PvP adapt to whatever game it is they are playing at the moment. I think after the learning curve is tackled that players from all games will do just fine in AoC's PvP.

That Guild Wars 2 login screen knocked up my wife. Must be the second coming!

    Ok, PvP is fun.

And we all will be in the same situation in AoC, its a new game and everyone have to learn from scratch.

So i dont care how good someone was in another MMO. Thats pointless now. Only dedication and time will let the new "master" appear.

We are all human we will learn and adapt to the new system of AoC.... I don't think saying that people that play other games that you don't like will suck at every game that you might like.

I think this steps the line where you focus too much on the apsects of every move and step and forget to have plain simple fun in a game...  They're all just games... and if someone is learning the moves I think we should help them not bash them for not having experience.

Actually I'm really looking forward to PvP in AoC once it goes live. It will be a nice experience, seeing people coming from various mmo's who all have various pvp styles, and seeing those styles 'merge'.

When a game goes live, besides entire guilds moving over to AoC, there will also be many newly formed guilds, with people coming from all those previous mmo's and even new people. That's why I don't think any given player would have a disadvantage over anyone else just because (s)he has played another mmo in the past.. the most important thing is that anyone starts at  the beginning and skills will develop over time.

    edit: small clarification

I almost didn't reply to this drivel as I feel it may be a waste for my first post.  Still, I was compelled.  To say that WoW players will have no chance is insane.  I may be one of those "new" mmoers who missed all the good old days (I did catch the tail end of Asheron's Call, and played DAoC a bit) but i never really got addicted to an MMO until WoW.  I wasn't able to look past the shiny, and my previous love of the Warcraft IP to actual gameplay and pvp.  (Although i was one of the crazies that always believed blizzard was going to make world pvp worthwhile...)  Sure WoW was "carebear" and sure it is NOTHING like what i want my next MMO to be.  However, it was great for someone who hadn't played MMO's in much detail or wasn't ready to drop hard earned items to some random person 80 levels higher than yourself as my experience in AC was.  But to say that I wouldn't have a chance, in a brand new world, fully knowing what i am getting into just because I haven't played Lineage 2 or some other hardcore pvp game for any extended period sounds stupid to me.

Can't wait to try this game, WAR, and god willing, Darkfall.

I think WoW players, those who are ready to evolve, will stand a fair chance. Emphasis is on those who will.

Wow OP good job at being an elitist.  Just because someone plays WoW they automatically suck at PvP?  I guess all those years pvping in Uo, Shadowbane, DAOC, Lineage 2, etc... have just been flushed down the toilet since I played WoW.

Ah well, maybe I can join up with all the other people who played WoW and just roll the borderlands ganking all the supposedly superior peeps who never played WoW. /sarcasm_off

MMO Vet since AOL Neverwinter Nights circa 1992. My MMO beat up your MMO. =S

Why is it so acceptable to be a total flaming tool on these boards as long as you point a finger at WoW? I'll stop there...  don't want to get banned for trolling again on troll threads.....

Beware WoW player. The level of retardation in this thread is critical. It can disable your brain if you read it all the way through.

I didn't play L2, SWG and Guild Wars, but are the combat mechanics diferent in those games? If what people like OP are saying is true and WoW just cloned everyring, then no, L2 player will have nothing more skill than a WoW player. What's death penalty got to do with it?

I think you're ok as long as you don't quote him and say "STFU NO0b!"

At least, thats what I got banned for in one of these threads.

This thread fails.    There were plenty of execptional players in WoW.   Some WoW Players play MANY games.   Some of them have Competed against other players nationaly, and won.   Some of the Best PvP'ers I knew from in UO went on to dominate in WoW, and some sucked.   One game has NOTHING to do with another.   Your sucess will be in how well you understand the mechanics of the game, and skill in executing a plan.

It's difficult to compare how well a player will do just based off of their previous MMO.

One thing I will say though, is that regardless of how a person fares in the actual combat, one thing WoW does not teach is how to deal with a loss or consequences greater than a simple corpse run. There is more to PvP than winning and losing a fight. There are the consequences, there are the sieges, many WoW players have never experienced any of that, and who've only been immersed in a completely static world where the only thing that changes is your location in it.

The overall message of this thread is moot, but it does have some underlying truths that are being missed.
