Founders

I have been researching all week on coming back and really giving this game a 2nd chance and one thing I have come across in many articles is if your not a founder you miss out on a lot. Most of it was items and horses and I wanted to check with the experts before I reopened my account.

Thank you for any advice.

I'm a founder with a lifetime sub and the only things I've gotten that non founders didn't was a ring of +3 agility, a cloak that is lower armor level then the stuff given by lvl 8 quests, and a horse for lvl 25-35 that is barely faster then a hunters run buff.  I also have a item that you can use to give +1 hope for  5 mins every two hours that I got from getting the special edition.

So basically, you're not missing out on much. Non founders have been bitching about the horse but even on my alts it's not been terribly usefull. You can't outrun anything on it like a normal mount so you just end up getting dismounted anywhere but the road, and if you're taking the road you may aswell grab the rented horse that runs a whole lot faster.

Well, and then there's the fact that you don't have to pay sub fees, ever.  That's still one major difference.

Yes, the biggest advantage I see to being a Founder is the $199 (US) lifetime (one-time) subscription fee. After that, no more fees, except in the form of paying for any future retail expansions. After a year, this price will pay for itself at the $15.99 monthly fee price point. Furthermore, it allows to to retain a subscription to LOTRO even if you take a month (or more) off without the hassle of canceling and then re-subscribing.

Turbine offers a lifetime membership option to anybody who isn't a founder as well. (See link here). Even at $299, this offer carries the same convenience perks I mentioned above, and while it takes longer to pay for itself and save you money, it is still a good deal for someone who likes the game and plans to play it for a year or more.

Keep in mind if you open a new account from a founders referral, you get founders pricing (1st 10 referrals only from what I hear).

That gives you the option of either $199 lifetime, or $9.95 monthly fee.

I know, my wife just started playing (finally) from my founders referral.

I wonder if Lifetime memberships are the way things are going to go in MMORPGs from here on out. Like many, I do tend to play a game for months , even years at a time. I suppose the problem would be I just cant dish out the cash all at once. Sometimes I'd rather pay more over a long period ...its like my mortgage

Maybe, but after a certain amount of time (1 year, 2 years?) they wouldn't be making any money from subs, and that's where most of the income for MMOs comes from.

I love my lifetimemembership in LOTRO and i hope that futuregames like AOC or Warhammer will use this offer too.

It's a great way to play.

Pay once and after that it's only the expansions that is paid for.

I agree cannot beat the one time fee.  I have played off and on have not got my money's worth but if I get tired of other MMO's then I can come back to this one and not have to worry about any fees.  I like the game but have not had the time to play recently.  I hope to play some during the christmas break.
