So i played Perfect World yesterday

First off this game has apsolutely best character creation in any MMO i ever played.

You can make almost any thing you imagine. I actually created blue elf girl with cartoon like body and head, Huge Mike Tyson lookalike and a werewolf.

If that is not enough. You also do not have to display your armor , but you can create your own clothes and display them instead.

The game itself....now hang on , this is good...

The developers tried to combine many different mmos in one. So it is mix of WOW , EQ , Shadowbane , lineage 2 and whatever asian MMOs

Funny thing it plays like bit lamer version of Vanguard but withouth bugs

In the game you can freely fly over massive landscape. But you can tame animals and turn them into riding pets to ride on

You not only can own house , but you can grab piece of land remodel it and build city there. And yes ...it is PVP contested, kind of like in shadowbane...but this time you control large chunks of map.

The game has asian player shop system , and auction house aswell

Post is there and bank

You move with WASD and the game is QUEST based (although it is kill 10 X quests)

You have skill system with Diablo like skill tree.  So there are "builds"

All in all. The game is still in beta , it is asian MMO and free - but it allready has more appeal than most of p2p MMOs i know.

Surelly there must be some bad things down the line....but right now

Its just perfect

it's only malaysian beta atm the game has been out for a long time... they's just nothing abot NA or europa beta witch is pretty sad

oh and getting a good group is just as good as doing quests or even better

    EDIT: Queto from Rinea

Well I guess PW is one of the most overlooked games, due to the fact that there still isnt a publisher named for american/europe (except the upcoming PW-MY EN International version - hosted in malaysia).

However Perfect World is the most successful game in China (its the WoW of the east)... this game has over 30million registered and over 500.000 concurrent users in taiwan, china, korea and vietnam alone. The storyline is build upon the myth of pangu... thats also why you can jump higher than normal (its like the films tiger & dragon) - you get used to it pretty fast and it saves a lot of time hehe.

I for one can say that it is an really well made and awesome game because it combines the great elements of L2 (open pvp, sieges, etc.), with the quest/item diversity of WoW and much more.

    So the basics are:

    - 3 races / 6 classes

    - you can use WASD control as well as point/click.

    - most complex character customisation you have ever seen. You have complete freedom control on it. You can even import pictures to try to reasemble them with the editor.

    - common harvesting and crafting system (much like wow but with chance to better and even rare crafts)

    - possiblity for travel and combat in air, sea & land

    - many different land/air mounts

    - city building and housing system

    - complete marriage system

    - fashion clothes

    - some instances

    - seemless world (no zones except instances)

    - similar to l2 enchanting system (but no need buy thousands of gold... you get items for enchanting from quest rewards...)

    - several anti bot mechanisms

That's all I can think of now...

So in my eyes (I have already played the china as well as the cbt of malaysian english version) it takes L2 to a higher level, simply because it has nearly the same pvp system as L2 has (the biggest difference is that you are safe till level 30 - but the game has 105 levels), but it removes one of the biggest gripes of l2 player -> Bad economy, you get so many cool item just from fighting... -> then the grind... its much better in PW because you have easy grinding quests usually with nice rewards which give you lots of XP and items that really moves you forward..

So if you want to know more about this game there is a basic english wiki about it on http://www.perfectworld.cc

Well i used to play the chinese beta using the fan made english translation patch from www.perfectworld.cc (you can always find me in the offtopic section there).

And the malaysian version is for NA and EU that's why it's in english

But i got bored because almost all the quests are the same it's just kill a few of those then come to me and i'll tell you what to kill next.

But there is a expansion comming in februrary which will update the game pretty much and that will probbly make me play it again

Make no mistake Perfect World isn't perfect but it's surprisingly good. Hmm...maybe they should rename it that.

While a bit rough around the edges PW is in league with the vast majority of  P2P titles out now. The only glaring weakness I see is it's english translation, lack of armor choices and audio (which is bloody horrible).

Then again I'm a bit more critical of audio but oh well. Nonetheless PW is a fine little title and the character creation is second only to CoX and maybe SWG. Even if you're not a fan of the F2P Item shop model take heart in this. Guild Wars, Perfect World, Sword of the New World and now RFO have raised the stakes for those companies wanting you're subscription dollar.

These P2P companies now have to tighten their game to get you're subscription money. From what I've seen and read of 2008's P2P offerings all got work to do.

When the game is raised all MMO players benefit.

I agree. Item shops are a pain in the rear. Just charge me 15 bucks a month or whatever, and let me play the game.

Agreed here, PW is surprisingly good. The grind isn't too bad, and pretty much the only annoyance I found was the poor transfers to English. Somehow it seems nearly all Asian games can't afford to hire someone that actually knows English.

Character creation is great. Everything after that is terrible.

PW took good features from many well-known games and patched them together.  Overall it's a nice game but lacks originality and creativity.

PW plays just like many other fantasy MMO's out there.  Toon's animation and combat sound can use some work.  Its cities are huge with too much useless empty space, making it a real pain to reach individual npc in town.  Crafting options are limited and classes/skills are also quite restricted and uninspiring.

Personally I prefer DOMO (Dream of Mirror Online) to PW.  DOMO has original storyline/quest plots and more creative design.  Moreover, there's real depth & choices in its multiple class/skill combination, which matters more to me than a toon's appearance.  But DOMO is still an unfinished product and PW's pvp can be quite fun though.

Yeah, when next BIG update comes to PW, I'll give it another shot too.

    Exactly

PW is surely not better than EQ2,WOW,LOTRO or other P2P MMOs - but it is darn close.

It surely made me consider paying F2P , until a nextgen MMO's come out

300 ping? try 500-700, and it is not only us but a lot of people complaining, besides that the game is great, but it suffers greatly from lag spikes, especially at high activity hours (many people on) but it seems to have gotten worse as the opening of the beta, they say they are fixing it, but we see more responses about it being fixed by fans of the game than the actual moderators, I stopped playing it till they fix it, and yes I know it is in malay servers, and?  it is Asia's wow remember? so I think they could have enough income to fix their servers, but I think that maybe they will not cater to american players like they will to their malay ones, the game has a huge following in Asia (Asia's wow), I hope it will not end up being crappy server performance for NA players like  RYL2, then again I don't think moderators would care, as long as Malay players are happy.

I'm playing from the UK and lag is quite rare to be honest except when I'm on my mage and the tiniest of lag will interfere with my otheriwse perfect kiting. The lag here I'm talking about is so small which would otherwise be unnoticeable except when you need perfect timing to kite a mob. It will spoil an otherwise perfect kiting and make me take unneccesary damage.

Well I stopped playing the mage so that's no longer an issue for me because I discovered WF is so much more fun :P

One thing I don't like about the Werefox class is that there is no male option (Something to do with Chinese myths, there are only female werefox). Well being a guy, I really didn't want to play a cute skinny little girl with bunny ears and floppy tail Which is actually 99.99% of the werefox population and scary thing is that most of them are played by guys!

So I had an ingenious idea, I used the character customisation feature and got rid of the bunny ears and floppy tail. Then I made her all black with white hair and menacing red eyes  :P She actually looks more scary and powerful now! Tip: don't mess with her!

Hopefully people will not try to flirt with me now, haha!

When I started playing and actually still do, I was flirting with all the beautiful girls in game until I realised most of them were actually played by guys

I've played PW and if I were a VC, I would definitely want to find some developers who could add more polish (textures, improved animations, and additional content for later down the road) and properly localize it (especially in the english translation). What I have heard that isn't rumor, the owners of PW are trying to get a good development team together to improve it and properly localize it for NA, so expect in a year or two for official news on that front.
