When my friend first showed me maplestory, I was amazed. The graphics looked cute, the people were friendly, and best of all, It was free!
So soon enough I decided to play maplestory. The controls were simple enough, and it was quite easy walking around maple island, killing the green snails and leveling up every 2 minutes. When I (finally) got to victoria island, It was amazing! Huge markets, heaps of people, lots of training spots, and who could resist all the different colored mushrooms hopping around. By the time I got to level 21, I was obsessed. First and foremost, maplestories unique concept of "PQing" (Party Questing), was fun, sociable, simple, amusing, and extremely rewarding. Getting to the status of "Hunter" was what kept me going, and sure enough, it did. By level 25 I was so obsessed that I decided to spend $30.00 US on Nexon Cash, or NX. At first it seemed harmless enough, I bought a penguin, clothes for my penguin, a haircut, a face change, wings, and some other benign stuff. Later on, however, the desperate pressure that Nexon put on me to buy NX drove ne, yet again to buy MORE! I spent an extra $30.00, and this time my spendings were even more pointless. I got an eye color change, about seven extra emotes, (yes that's seven dollars to make you show a few extra emotions), a hat for my penguin, food for my penguin, a name tag for my penguin so his name wasn't just Penguin, (The name i gave him was even stupider),and a cool looking bow.
When i got to level 31, and stopped PQing, maplestory suddenly got a lot more boring. Without the extreme boost of exp that PQ gave you, I realised how damn long it took to level up. I still kept on going, trying to see if I could get up to the next level of PQ, Ludibrium, but before then my parents banned me for a week for other reasons, by which time I had got bored of maplestory. I have to thank my parents for banning me, because otherwise I probably would have spent even more money. This is how my thoughts would of went:
Hmm, what if i buy a new pet which starts off as an egg but grows into a dragon! What if i buy an item that lets it evolve faster! What if it's the wrong color and I want a black one! Speaking of which, what if I want a hat that looks like a big pile of poo! What if I want a sword that looks like a stick with a pile of poo on it! The list goes on, and I know quite a few people who wasted more money than me, just like that.
Maplestory is free, but the thought of NX is so attractive that it compels you to waste more and more money every week. Indeed, having NX puts you on a completely different tier from that of your peers. Most of the people who I asked why they play maplestory instead of games like WoW said "Because Maplestory is free". However, these were the same people that i found buying NX every two weaks just because a new style of face was in fasion or a new pet had come out. Worst of all is that NX expires after 3 months, so getting 30 dollars of clothes actually costs 120 dollars a year, just to change a few pixels on a screen.
The more I think of maplestory, the more I realise just how much I obsessed over it, just how much money I spent on it, and just how much I treated it as if it were my life. Please, stay away from maplestory, you will regret it.
Blackie Monster? No. Just, No.

I really like your comment - it's honest. But there's one thing, you think wrong.
Why not play game, that tempts you? First of all it's only your fault, that you got tempted by NX. I can understand that, but I'm playing as well and I wasn't tempted - it depends on personality I quess. But think of it differently - you spent some $ on thins game, but learned a lot. It's better to spend 80$ being a child than 800$ being an adult to learn same thing.
I wouldn't say stay away from MS, I would rather say before creating character write rules. Like - I won't spend ANY money on MS.
I won't get obsessed with NX.
etc.
Tell your brother or whoever about these, if you're not sure of yourself.
If you break any of these rules just delete MS (it shouldn't be difficult unless you're addicted) or ask your brother to do it.
Same goes to every game - it's wrong to say 'don't you ever never try to play Lemmings, cause I spent whole last night playing them and didn't make my homework/report/...' bcs it's not game's fault, but yours - you got addicted, and you've got a problem.
You have some good points in ur comment about maplestory but you have only gotten to ur 2nd job which is not alot considering 4th job is almost out. You only gotten ur 1st job skilsl which suk and hardly knew ur 2nd job skills. Plus you spending money is not the games fault but ur own being drawn in by their advertising tactics. I've never spent money on the game and im at lvl 79. Try to like the game more and keep ur money in a bank or something and tell them to not give you any money for any circumstances. Therefor you can save money. Plus i dont understand how you waste ur internet. o.O I quit the game tho since it had gotten very boring and i wanted to try other games. I dun care much about my friend who spent over $200 on NX cash. He influenced my friend who had stoppped playing for about half a year and then had been drawn in again. My advice to you is to not be drawn in once again. You will lose ur life and ur dignity.
Blame the game instead of your own self control problems! Cool!
though admittedly I'd rather have this game be P2P so I wouldn't have to fight over grinding spots or run into so many idiots (not implying that the community would be less idiotic, there would just be LESS idiots), and so that we could get pets and use the hairstyles and emotes without paying a cent.
unfortunately though because of people like you, they probably make more money through cash shop anyway
