In DAoC, I played a Nightshade.  I enjoyed the experience thoroughly.  I enjoyed being able to scale walls and sneak up on foes inside as well.  I kicked ass yeah, but wasn't dominating groups or even two people at a time.  I was good for one-on-one combat and if it wasn't going my way, I could attempt to run and restealth.  What I'm getting at is that there were no huge or unbalanced benefits to being a "stealther".  There were always strong points and weak points and I didn't see any huge benefits to being any one class over another.  I've heard people b*tching and moaning about how unbalanced things were but I just think they were vicitimized by a higher level (experience or realm rank).  Anyway, moving on...

When I found out that WAR wasn't going to include the dimension of a stealthing class, I was somewhat disappointed.  The reasons for which I was looking forward to WAR, was basically so that I could rekindle my old Nightshade days.  I suppose that most of the combat is the sword/axe/spear weaponry strikes from up close, or throwing magic/arrows/big rock projectiles from a far.  That is fine as long as there is some strategy involved, and from what I've read, there will be.

Who knows, maybe in the future, once the basic goals have been met, they may think of including new classes and races; maybe a "stealther" class might be a part of that.

I personally like stealth being in any game as it only adds to depth and the type of characters being played. But, if they aren't going to have it...no biggie. Play what they do have. It's only a game. People will whine and cry about something in any game, or in anything really. That's life.

I can't say enough that people should friggin relax and chill. It's not that serious.

Adapt and overcome is what the best of us will do in any system.

Answer truthfully...(yes or no), Will the next word you say be "NO"?

Sheesh another stealth poll and topic?

I voted for the top option though.

One thing I do know is Stealth totally ruins City of heroes pvp. It's a tactic any cheesball can use to grief people. Especially when you get a team of cheesballs. All they do is try their 1 assasinate move then run and hide/repeat. It makes pvp terrible.

I can counter it, but it's so annoying as this stealth class being so easy to do well with is totally overplayed.

warhammer has no stealth, no invisibility. stop asking for it please. it doesnt exist in the lore, and shouldnt be in the game.

this just makes me think that WaR just may not be what its called and thats a pvp game.

stealth is fundamental in any pvp game.

the option to stealth means you have chosen a weaker class at the expense of being the sneaky class and not the  ultimate tank/caster/fighter.I really dont get why people whine about stealthers,  ok so ya you got killed a couple times from an invis guy after you were at 1/2 life from fighting a monster........would you rather a class that can one shot you when you are at 1/2 life just run up and do it while you are fighting a monster......i play stealthers and notice that i dont get griefed by them but trather the over powered casters/fighter classes

WaR get 2 thumbs down now for the pvp scale and its time to lean towards AoC and gulp spellborn takes the 2nd spot now you know that pvp games is takin the toll on a bad move from warhammer dev's

  • RedluciferRedlucifer Member Posts: 112

and saying it doesnt exist in the tabletop game is a pointless remark due to the fact that we are not talking about the tabletop game.....WAR was posed to be the new ....focussed on totally......PVP game.

to take out a characteristic of what the term PVP stands <stealthing> is redonkulous......if they wanted to stick to the tabletop game they should make it an online tabletop game.....are they ....NO.....Without stealth they should remove the dark elf witch class and the witchhunter from the opposing side casue those 2 classes just got gimped beyond beliefe

This poor dead horse is just a pile of broken bones and bits of flesh.  How long must it be beaten?  The devs have stated numerous times that there is no stealth in WAR.

I have to answer that. This poll is not about wether it should be in or not.

It´s about how the community feels about it being not in. (If it´s ok or not)

I made it because there was an ongoing argument with people saying: MOST of  the people want it in and another saying MOST of the people are glad it´s not in.

This poll is about finding out how the community feels. Thank you.

The idea of stealth is a good one.  Unfortunetly its uned mainly in MMO's as a tool grief repeatedly and thats why its not a good idea for a game anymore.

While I get the intent of the poll I'm a firm believer that people will support most anything their game of choice puts forth. If you'd asked in a poll a year or two ago if people wouldve tolerated instanced scenario's being in the game then I'm pretty sure it would have been a resounding *No*, yet after they said they were putting it in regardless I've seen many people say it's *ok*, even the people that were deadset against it before they announced it.

Same with this poll imo, it's going to show the support for the developer's choice in the matter even though if the question had been asked before they ever mentioned it not being in I think the results would have been different.

That's your opinion but no way is it a primal law of MMOs . . . "stealth is fundamental"  hmmm yeah right.  WAR seems to be trying something new, I could easily say "healing is fundamental in any pvp game" and WAR seems to have a different take on that too.

I don''t really know when Humankind will die out but i''m guessing about 6 years before WOW.

Come out in the open like the rest of us, you cheap ass stealthers.

That is pretty much how I feel about it.  Say in one on one if it is balanced, it still gives you the choice to pick and choose the wounded sheep, so to speak.  No other class can pull that bs, because you can intercept who is going after the people with low HPs in your group(the people that are visible on the enemy side).

The thing is, it is never even one on one in these games.  It is setup in a rock-paper-scissors type balancing.  If you are stealther and you know you can't win against something, you just stay invis.  Waiting for a class you know you can beat and then trounce.

It's cool when you are the stealther, but sux to be on the other end.  I've played both sides and it can't be balanced without heavy penalties to coming out of stealth and attacking instead of getting huge bonuses.

Sure, there can be stealth.  When you come out of stealth you have a 50% movement reduction, a 5 min recast on stealth if attacking, and 50% dmg reduction.  Then it can be used for only reconisence type situations.  If you are knocked out of stealth, you don't suffer those penalties.  No attacking from stealth though, would be the only way I see it working.

Or if you did, with heavy penalties.

There are just too many people that will whine and cry about some stealth class killing them.  So WAR had to do something.  The chicken/chaos chicken helps.. but it's a different type of safeguard.  I think stealth should have been in, but I'm sure the game will be fine without it.  Scouts will just have to be a little more cautious.  Hiding in tall grass, behind trees, buildings, cliffs..etc will have the be adopted, rather than just to stealth in plain view.

I played a rogue in WoW and loved it.  I couldn't fight anyone successfully most of the time without the use to stealth and stuns.   However, as strong as I was, I could rarely take out multiple player targets at the same level and gear comparison.  It was very good utility wise, almost as good as a druid.. but, I never felt overpowering by any means.

WAR is simply catering to the whiners and carebears.  It is what it is.  So, like I said.. I'm sure it will be a good game without it, there will just have to be some adaptation.

The funny thing is that 100% of the rabid stealth crowd think this way. I'll not try to convince you otherwise. In terms you can accept, I'll say there are legions of us crybabies and whiners that are just tired of being owned by superior people that have the skillz to play such a misunderstood and persecuted class like the rogue. We're just too lazy and ignorant to actually try to do the simple counters that are required to deal with what is actually a very difficult class to play correctly. I'll cry every day I play WAR in protest to the wrongful exclusion of invisibility.

Oh, who am I kidding... it fills my heart with glee that there will be no stealth, no 1-shot killing, CC will not be all powerful, and there will be collision detection!

It always amuses me when stealth-lovers complain about "carebears".

Is there any more "carebear" mechanic than being able to render yourself invisible to the enemy?

  • LobotomistLobotomist Member EpicPosts: 5,981

    No stealth , no game

  • alakramalakram Member UncommonPosts: 2,301

In my opinion, stealth is usually wrong implented in mmorpg. A rogue is suposed to hide from your vision becouse he hides in the shadows, in most mmorpg, you press your stealth button and you hide, you can be on the top of a mountain, or in the middle of a plain, in midday, with the sun over you, and you are hidden, ¿HOW? . Damn, this is the invisibility spell of wizards. A rogue should be able of hide in a cave, or in a  dungeon, in the in shadows. Like in DDO or Oblivion. If they were not doing this, im glad they dont implemented it. Ilike the rogue role, but I usually dont play rogues in online games cose of that.

"WAR is simply catering to the whiners and carebears."

Better than caving to the cowards and ragebrats.  Any trained monkey can use the immunity of suprise and a practiced set of moves that amount to an "I win button."  Funny how the bitter crying as a result of taking the I win button away points fingers at everyone else.

WAR is far better off without that broken mechanic.

I like how people get so defensive and then start attacking other people when they can't make an intelligent reply.

I've played many other classes.. and even in DAoC, where there were on-shot archers and such.  here's what I did to avoid them.

    1.  Stay with your group

    2.  Go fight somewhere else.

It's a very easy thing to do really.  Yes, I played a rogue in WoW.  But, I played a priest as well.  I also played a warrior in DAoC.  I know what it is like to be killed by a stealther.  Even as a rogue, it happens from time to time.  What do I do?  Get a friend.. or go back and beat the snot out of that player.  I don't sit around and cry like a baby.  It's all about a persons mentality and personality.  If you are generally afraid of conflict or retribution of any kind.  You are typically labeled a carebear.  It isn't MY fault if people are like that.. and honestly.. they should stay away from this game.  I never fight people who have no chance to beat me.. I will never become victim of the chicken/chaos chicken.  I don't find joy in beating people that don't stand a chance.. there is no pride in that.  Rogues are very difficult to master, you may believe you are the best player, but you are not, no matter who you are.

As far as broken.  It wasn't broken in WoW.  Yes, there were some parts of it that were more advantageous, but it wasn't broken.

Again.  This is WAR.  Not Carebears online.  Stealth or no Stealth.  I'll do just fine.. and I won't complain..  It's either gank or be ganked in PvP.  I'll stick with the Ganker role.  Even as a warrior priest.  =)

Undecided ,until three or four months of release(playrtesting by players).I respect Mythic's decision, yet as soon as I'm leaning towards the view of one edge for a while, I also understand the view of another edge.My 2 cent.
