Do you think Vanguard will end up with a stronger player base due to the bad publicity its had. ?

This has been an interesting thought for me, I have the feeling Vanguard will end up being really strong when its eventually fixed fully, It also seems that the peeps that are sticking with it are very loyal to the game, and are posting more and more positive , mature and truthful comments about the state of the game at present. I for one am seriously considering re-subbing at the moment and am being encouraged by the more positive mature opinions on this forum. I firmly believe it could end up with a more dedicated and mature playerbase as a result.
Anyone think the same ??

I am sure some people will put certain attributes on such people. Some might say they are better, smarter, more hardcore and get laid more. Most of the people saying that will be those trying to prove to other people they are part of that smarter crowd.
Others will have different terms for such players. They will come up with negative terms to describe these players which will be in contrast to the properites previously given. No doubt, this will be fun to watch.
i'm not a fan myself of SOE, but to be honest they are doing a good job on fixing up the game or atleast trying to polish it. Even thought most of the bugs from beta are still in there.
Look just because of SWG you cant keep tarring everything SOE do with the same brush,yeah I know they made lots of mistake but each project they do has to be surely taken on its own merit does it not ?
From an unbiased player, i would like to say that if you haven't noticed.
Vanguard is already receiving a higher playerbase. Especially after the update like a week ago.

I really believe that some Vanguard players are now being extremly honest about the game now, and some are pinting out the bad points alongside the good .

If it were only a matter of " A Mistake"...but rather the constant mistake by SOE who refuses to listen to their player base In nearly every game they have made to date.
I don't think this game is going to go anywhere. At it heart gameplay is the most important factor, and this game does nothing new to make anyone want to play. Furthermore there is almost ZERO character customization... how is every bard different from every other bard? they're not. Gear isn't enough of an individualizing factor to hold any interest.
In the end, eh, this wow clone will fade away.
Well, they've offered a free trial to former members over the Christmas break. Let's see how that group feels regarding the changes and if VG is worth sticking with.

I played the game 2 days ago on a friends PC and I have to say that the dev's have fixed a lot. It's actually playable now and personally I'm sure as hell trying the trial for ex-subscribers. I think that once ex-subscribers play the trial they will see that the game is on its way to being fully fixed. When I was playing I was actually having FUN; the quests were in depth and interesting, didn't find any bugs, and the graphics (on a high end computer) were the best I've seen in current MMO's.

I have found the Vanguard community, overall, to be diverse but also mature. I think, however, the Antonia Bayle community in EQ 2 is the best I have hence heretofore experienced.
One of the reasons why I post often is, besides it being entertaining, is what you alluded to. Bad info and good info. A lot of people who do not play the game or are angry with the game quit and post bad information about the game because they are frustrated for whatever reason.

There has been much talk lately of bugs, stability, and recent updates from SOE. However, my main concern for VG hasn't changed and still lies in waiting, and that would be where SOE plans to go with the game in the future. I have never argued that VG currently has anything less than a mature and loyal community. The problem that I see on the horizon is the community that will be persued by SOE through changes they will impliment in the future.
Let's keep in mind that GU3 was the last of Sigils influence and that anything new will be SOE material.
It is a fair and legitimate concern.
SOE may want to make the game more like WoW to get more WoW people. I think that strategy will be worse for the game.
I think Vanguard, strategically in a business sense, is more attractive as a "different" rather than a "similar" game to WoW. Slower leveling, great graphics, long travel times, slight sting to death, and so forth make Vanguard different and appealing. It is a deeper PvE experience, and I think SOE should enhance this deeper PvE experience with more
Vanguard actually reminds me of the Chronicles of Narnia to a certain extent when I play. WoW-like features do not undermine Vanguard's success. Instead, (1) performance and (2) incomplete features do (please see bullet points above, regarding missing features).

here are a list of things that are the same
1) they are both mmorpg's (woopty do)
2) they both have classes ( wow big suprise there)
3) OMFG you can were armor ...

I currently do not play Vanguard, nor will I attempt again till SOE implements a free trial like a few months ago was mentioned via "free trial isle". Placing actions behind words about the continuing betterment of Vanguard will show SOE has enough confidence to allow the general public to witness Vanguard for themselves. Dupe me once intentionaly shame on them(Sigil), duped again then shame on me. Sure problems will always exist & then hopefully as surely a remedy will be found. I do not want Vanguard to end-up too similar to WoW, but I do not want another EQ either just with better graphics.
I have no doubt that SOE has improved Vanguard though since acquiring soon after Sigil's debacle launch. However, I am also as sure that Vanguard's foundation is still riddled with holes so there is more work to be done. I am no fan how SOE operates nor listens to but a select few from my old EQ days. I just hope SOE keeps bettering Vanguard. If SOE makes Vanguard the great game it was "envisioned" to be then a player-base will be no problem.
In the end these games are suppose to be fun. A challenge we all want indeed, but fun nonetheless & not work. The risk versus reward balancing act is continuous for any of the games we enjoy. Repeating a step 5 times or 500 times to recieve a reward is not hard-core &/or challenging. It is just repetitious.
My opinion as someone watching from the outside looking in at the forums this game has never seemed more appealing. I can't go on anything other than other peoples words so most of my interest comes from wondering if it is as good as they say.
Really though forum goers are a minority and the majority probably wouldn't know the current state of the game unless they know someone who still plays.
But for the most part I think the game seemingly going from bad to just about to be really good will interest a lot of people including me... waiting for a damn trial is testing my patience though so I hope it will be worth it
Everything you mentioned is the reason Vanguard bombed at release. If anything Vanguard was a lesson that such decisions AREN'T attractive to the paying market.
Everything you listed comes with negative trade-offs. Slower levelling is annoying to casuals. Greater graphics mean greater performance problems. Long travel times, stings to death, etc. are also annoying to the majorityl.
Yeah, what you listed made Vanguard different, but not appealing. Different and appealing aren't synonymous in the MMO market; infact being different is probably the leading cause of an MMO's death. At least being different from the commonly accepted conventions Vanguard is now catching up to.
So SOE has been making the correct moves. Quickening the level process, revising graphics, ditching long travel times and lessening death penalties. Expect more of those kind of changes.
Couldn't agree more.. and I'd probably get it if i thought my PC could handle it...
I am looking forward to the free month coming for old players, i did like the game then, i imagine ill enjoy it more now that the memory leaks and some issues have been fixed that were gamestopping for me, I so miss my Giant toon hehehhe.

OMG LOLOLOL .. I was expecting a punch line when i clicked this post..... Dude Vaguard is toast.... But it will continue to limp on because its an SOE game. in order for the player base to come back when its fixed they have to be waiting for it to be fixed and IMO the ex vanguard players aren't waiting.. they all moved on and discarded the game already.... Ther just wasn't enough good times to bring people back. If a game like swg suddenly roled the servers back to pre NGE you would see a subscriber bump ( not gonna happen but im making a point).. because it used to be good and people had some good times for a few years before the game went to the toilet.. but vanguard is different... all people remember is misery and running in circles
I would go back , i am hoping that it is fixed enuff for me to play it, for me it wasnt the game mechanics that made me stop it was the memory leaks and lag, i now have more mem, a better card, and from what i was reading the game stability and such has improved, if this holds true i will give it a go, at least they are trying to fix it, they could be like ea-games and just pull the plug on games and shut them down not caring at all about the player base.

I would love a free trial, but I fail to see how a free 7 day trial is going to help matters on an 18G client plus patch time. Hell, you would be in your third day of trial on a decent (not, not great) connection before you could even bother logging into the game.
Played (more than a month): SWG, Second Life, Tabula Rasa, Lineage 2, Everquest 2, EvE, MxO, Ryzom.
Tried: WoW, Shadowbane, Anarchy Online, Everquest, WWII Online, Planetside
Beta: Lotro, Tabula Rasa, WAR.

I have read your review truenorthbg, and I have to say its one of the best reviews I've ever read about Vanguard, I have a great respect for and Honest Unbiased review,which yours most certainly is.
Keep up the good work. because people need to hear truthful opinions especially from people that play and enjoy the game, Vanguard deserves a second chance , and as far as SOE are concerned well maybe just maybe they have learned from their mistakes with SWG . and what they are doing with Vanguard well " So far so good eh ? "
