Help a n00b

Hey all

I've never played this game.

The only thing i have to compare it to is WoW.

I played wow for about a year or so, got bored of it, only made it to level 45 before giving up.

CoH is downloading as we speak (4 hours left).

So, my request is:

Tell me about the game ^_^

I mean, what i know so far is that you can make guild-like groups,

You can create your own very detailed and unique character(<3),

You can do quests (?)

And that's about all i know haha.

So fill me in guys, what should i know?

Any server recommendations?

Tips that you wish someone would've given you when you were a noob?

Thanks all.

Its been awhile since I played CoH but I believe it stands for influence. You use it to buy enhancements and all the new stuff they came out with like costume pieces at the auction house and stuff.  Thats pretty much anyone can really give you.

Theres a bunch of different ways to play CoH which is kinda cool, It held my attention for about a year or so.

With Inventions and Invention Costume Pieces...there's a bit more to trade now than influence.

your arguement is so persuasive, so filled with knowledge and insight. You back up your argument very articulately, with suggestions of improvements and raising examples to glorify your position....oh wait, you didn't

Well I hope that the game is working out for you as I am getting in on this rather late.

As you may have started to see, the game has a lot of features to offer. I'm not sure how far you've gotten yet, but starting on this last Monday, you most likely have found the winter event started. Through out the year, there are special events, missions, groupings and prizes available in game. You're going to meet nice poeple and some not-so-nice people, but I hope that the nice ones are out there in full force to help you. I'm not sure of all the servers, but I have been playing on Protector and Champion for Heroes and on Justice for Villains. So far, I'm very happy with the people on these servers.

The game itself is a mix of powers, archatypes, and adventures. Depending on the origian, and type of character you've chosen, will determine your game play style and experience. Tanks, Scrappers are going to be your main Melee characters. Blasters are your damage dealers, with a weak health bar. Play style is a bit of work to master. Defenders can blast but not for the same damage as blasters. They are more support (healers) in a team although many have been soloed just fine. Controllers will lock down your mobs. They run with the healing secondaries. They don't do much damage, but can stop the bad guys from touching them until they work them down. There are bonus characters once your account hits level 50. They are Peacebringers and Warshades. They are fun to play but do take a bit to master. In one area they're strong and in others, they're very weak.

Over all, the game is for the long haul. Power leveling is availabe out there, but just because your level 50, doesn't mean the game is over. I find that playing the game is more fun then getting to level 50. There is so much content within the game, you can spend an easy 400 or more hours on the game without blinking an eye at it. I've clocked over 800 hours just on one toon (character) and a few houndred on others. You'll either love it or hate it. I can just say "Welcome! and Enjoy!"

If you read comics, then you know that what is guilds in wow are supergroups ( similar to the Justice League or theAvengers) in COH. I have several heroes on Victory, look for Electric Catfish or Azur Sentinal, to name a couple. Take it from me, the game is fun over all, but once I made it to 10th level, I can't seem to make any headway. I think the main reason is that I try to solo, and there are some tough villains out there.

    Hiya

You can solo in the game but you need either a tank or a scrapper if you try to solo with any other AT you will die alot. The best part of the game is between levels 20 and 50. You must team up with others if you meet some good players, you will make friends and the game is a lot more fun. I have played this game since Beta and  i am still playing it. i have 15 level 50 toons and will have more in the next year. If any of you are playing on the Guardian Server look me up.

Probably the best part about this game is, although there are only a few classes, each class has a primary powerset and a secondary powerset of your choice, adding a nice level of customization to the game. That and most powersets have a different playstyle (Defender comes to mind).

Examples being the Blaster archetype, the primary ranged damage dealer, can chose to use Fire, Ice, Lightning, an Assault Rifle, a Bow and Arrow, or even Energy Blasts as his primary attack. You also get a secondary powerset to complement that. (Ice Blast main, Ice Manipulation second, or hell, Ice Blast main, Fire Manipulation second).

.. But in a good way.
