Really Looking forward to WAR

Im one of many people who are MMO addicts in these forums. Ive played just about every MMO that has come out in the past 3-4 years, but i hadnt really give much thought to WAR. Why you might ask. Truth is, i dont know. It may be because the only artwork i had seen really was Orcs and they just never really apealed to me.

Anyhow, I have been eagerly awaiting the release of AoC. But all that changed today. On a whim, i went to the WAR forums here at MMORPG.com and found the sticky post at the top of the list with all the videos. All i can say is WOW (and i dont mean the Blizzard game). I spent the entire day watching every video on that page, and found myself scouring the forums and the official website for tidbits of information that i hadnt previously learned. Now, i have never been much of a PvPer, but the PvP game play in this game look amazing. Its enough to make a grown man cry (happy tears). I love that each race has 4 distinct classes that no other race has. Im particularly looking forward to trying out the caster classes, both good and evil. Im not really familiar to the Warhammer Universe, but from what ive seen in the videos, screenshots and other sources, I might have to go out and get some of the books.

As for the graphics, i do see some similarities with WoW, although these seem much more up to date. Hopefully i can get into beta to see for myself.

I guess i'll be passing on AoC in anticipation for the release of WAR, may it be soon (but not too soon ie. Vanguard)

Well welcome man, I'm like you too being a big mmo vet.

And don't worry over time you'll begin to see how disimilar the art styles and graphics are.

I honestly put graphics at the lower end of my MMORPG priority list. Gameplay must be first and foremost. Its nice to have all the sparkles and the oos and ahhs, but if it lags your system or distracts form the game, its no good to me.

I did a poll about this a while back and it had a lot of responses. I posted the reesults in an article on my website about 'how to find a new MMORPG game'. Basically the poll results were

    1. Fun

    2. Server Stability

    3. Graphics

    4. Character Customization

    5. Community

    6. Roleplay

    7. Sound

    8. Cost

    9. Crafting

So, I dont mind if WAR graphics look similar to WoW (they are after all based of the same model). The gameplay is very different and thats why I want to play WAR.

Graphics is not only last on my list for MMO's but for any type of game.  Don't get me wrong, they can't be all out horrible, but for the most part its just not important to me.  I read a article quite a few years back in P.C gamer where they conducted some type of survey and found that for the most part, the majority of gamers stopped paying attention to what a game look like after 20 mins.

    -Currently looking forward to FFXIV

-Currently playing EvE and Global Agenda

I totally agree with your list. A game has to be fun. although, i admit if a game looks bad, i usually wont play it. But thats just me. Like for instance, i decided to give anarchy online a try a while back since i found the classic game and all the expansions at an EB on clearance for like $5 a piece. Anyway, i installed it all excited to play it, and then boom.. The graphics where horrible. Now this was some time after it was released, but i just couldnt take it. I uninstalled it and havent looked back. What can i say, im a sucker for pretty pictures

The art is similar to WoW and sadly it doesn't matter to most that Warhammer has had pretty much the same art style for 25 years. People don't always use reason when they flame.

I'm really looking forward to WAR as well. My only complaint is that they should have done 40k first. Fantasy has been WAY overdone. That being said, I plan on sticking with WAR for at least a few years. Until 40k online is released.

MMOs Played: EQ 1&2, DAoC, SWG, Planetside, WoW, GW, CoX, DDO, EVE, Vanguard, TR
    Playing: WAR
Awaiting 40k Online and wishing for Battletech Online

I agree that a game should be fun more than anything else. But I'm not looking forward to WAR because of the setting (WoW-esq) and the fact that EA has this game now. Don't get me wrong, I'll definately try it I'm just not looking forward to it as much since EA got it. I hope it does well though.

40K would have been awesome. Im a huge SciFi fan, although there is something to be said about hurling fireballs at an orc. Hopefully they will make both. although we'll be waiting for another 3-4 years for that one

THQ announced 40k MMO back in Feb. No ETA yet though.

I think the reason why they arent doing a 40K off the bat is two fold.

The Fantasy warhammer hasnt been made into a game for ages where 40K has.  Ontop of that most MMO's that have really gone anywhere have been fantasy not Sci-fi.  Im sure if WAR does well then it will come sooner or later.

Yes alot of the older Sci-fi games are still out there and havent folded yet but very few are doing well or have ever done that well.

Sci fi MMOs seem ALOT harder to make. SWG did a amazing job tho. Just instead of swords you have high powered rifles...kinda not alot of action other then pulling a trigger. that bugged me a little.  Fantasy your running around and sword play is going on.
