So I just started my 3-day trial. So far, TR seems pretty cool overall, though I am having some trouble with a general feeling of "Ok, did all the tutorial stuff... Uh, now what?" This is, however, probably at least partially due to my relative inexperience in MMO's. I'm feeling a little lost
And speaking of inexperience with MMO's... I'm a console gamer mainly. And I'm finding controlling a game of this nature with a mouse and keyboard...irritating.
My understanding is that officially, the game does not support the use of a controller. What I want to ask is if anyone knows of ANY way to use a controller with it. I have a wired 360 controller, so obviously it would be handy if I could use that, but I'm willing to buy another one if neccesary to solve this problem.
If there really is NO way...I will try to get used to KB/mouse controls, but I'm pretty skeptical. Slow RPG's or strategy games are one thing, but for a game with any speed to it's gameplay or timing/quick movements involved in the combat, I've never been able to function without a controller.
Any help is appreciated!

I odn't believe the game has native gamepad/joystick support but you can still get one to work with TR by using a programmable controller.

I heard somewhere that a group of people were playing with their 360 wireless controllers. It was somewhere in this forum, why don't you do a search for it (in the text, I don't think it was in the title).
Good luck.
Hm! Well that worked out well. Thanks for the replies. ^^
I did some searching for "programmable PC controllers", and found a program that allows you to assign keyboard/mouse functions to buttons on a USB controller. Downloaded it and mapped most of the functions to my 360 controller and it works like a charm. Of course, it's shareware, so after a 30-day trial I'd have to pay to keep it. But it's only 20 bucks, and if I decide I like Tabula Rasa enough to buy it (now that I can finish my trial time without going "Arggh I feel like I can't run straight!!" every five seconds ) it's definitely worth it, heh. And it also allows you to customize a different preset button layout for each game you play, so you can just switch to a new profile if you're switching games...very handy for me since when I play PSU I have a completely different (and very specific) button configuration. It would also be good for arcade emulators, since you could program a profile to load up for each different game if you wanted to.
For anyone interested, the program is called Pinnacle Game Profiler. It's pretty neat.
Thanks for the help! Maybe I'll see you guys on TR later, heh. ^^
Controllers' max turning speed is weak, you can do 360 degree turns instantly with a mouse and keyboard while you are jumping, strafing, and reloading at the same time. Sure a controller is fine for PvE against the computer but wait until you Player verse Player against someone with a keyboard and mouse, they will dance circles around you while you turn with a joystick at one speed.
Saitek P990 (or something like that) gamepad works just fine... You can tweak the sensitivity for the mouse function as well.
Overall it works pretty good for about $20 US.
I dunno about "instantly" doing a full 360 degree turn (I mean...you still have to move the mouse) but I will grant it's faster with a mouse than an analog stick. But not by a very large amount amount.
As for PvP... Eh, you may be right. Hard to say how much difference it would really make until I tried it, heh. But even if it does make an appreciable difference, I'm not too worried, due to the fact that in TR (in all MMO's/online RPG's, really) PvP is quite secondary to PvE in terms of what I'm getting out of the game. It's a nice feature to have when it's there, and can be a fun diversion, but overall, I'm here for the PvE game. So if I suck in TR PvP due to using a controller, then so be it. I won't be losing any sleep.
Until the day when more games incorporate a "center camera" button, I'll just have to live with the slight hit on turning speed. And yes, when I say I'll have to live with it, I mean I'll have to, because not using the controller really isn't an option for me. Any advantage I gain from going back to the faster turning speed of a mouse would be completely negated by the fact that I just can't play with a mouse and KB. It just DOES NOT work for me, period. I'm not trying to make an argument that controllers are somehow objectively superior; many of you no doubt prefer a mouse and KB for many games and that's just fine. But for me personally, a controller is always the better method for a game that requires any sort of timing or quick movements in it's combat.
Experiment13, that is a nice looking controller actually. If I hadn't found this program I would seriously consider it, heh. Still, thanks for the suggestion. ^^
Glad to help!
Like you, I can't deal with the keyboard/mouse controls... arthritis makes it so. A game controller is the only way for me to play.
