Decent single player / co-op game, though IMO it was too easy and too repetitive and the PVP was a complete mess.
With that said, I did enjoy it for a couple of weeks - which is still a lot longer than most other [single player] games which usually only last me a matter of days.

It's decent since you can play it online forever for free but the actual content is lacking, you basically finish all the content by the time you hit L 30 and you can easily solo the entire game. To get to 50 you have to replay all the same content but you can play it on harder difficulty.
It is pretty much a mindless thrash and bash, if thats what you are looking for then it is worth it. I mean when you think of most consol or single player games that come out, they are all about 15 hours of playtime overall these days so i figure its worth it if you want something to mess around with indefinitely .
HG:L is your typical hack-n-slash game with newer graphics. If you liked Diablo II you will probably like HG:L. You will run into a lot of repetitive tile-sets, but there are some interesting unique areas. The people who seem to enjoy it the most are those who have about 1 or 2 hours to play and feel you've accomplished something. The goals right now are loot based. You are looking for special drops with the right stats to improve your character. Because of the way the skill system is set up there are many ways to play for each character class.
K well i own this title so ill give my two cents.
Good: Its fun if you play with people you know. If you like wow, theres a few gameplay styles that come from it. The FPS part of hunter is cool. ITs not an auto attack rpg, you have to swing/click.
Bad. Bugs... At time it also feels bland. If you don't have friends playing this game, avoid it as you will get bored fast. The game does not have very many social aspect. Everyone get their oen instance ala guild wars style. Your really not fighting to beat back minions of hell, in fact you are never in real danger, nor are the stations.
Conclusion: If you like more of the same gameplay features from guild wars, wow, etc. all hashed into one pile with a very few unique things thrown in. This game is for you.
However if you are craving something different; Perhaps a game that actually gives you a purpose (such as actually defending something, not just spamming missions) This game is not for you as you will get bored.
I mean, don't get me wrong. Its an OK game. But it really doesn't do many things new. Just the fps feel added, really. Same old same old.

Its pretty bad, it really has nothing on diablo 2. Its like playing counter strike against retarded bots who only wield knives..
As long as you go into it realizing that it is a super casual fast paced hack and slash game, it's pretty good.
I play it a few hours a week, nothing major, but it's fun for that. I've run a few quests in multi player with other people, that was kinda fun too.
This game won't hold my interest for months on end, but who cares. I don't pay the monthly fee, so I play for free like guild wars. I can not play it for a month and not care...it isn't costing me any more than the price of the box.
If you want a hard core "I'm gonna play this game for the next two years" game, this won't be for you.
That's about as honest as I can be about it.
Hope that helps.

The trailer has got me wondering what kind of game this may turn out to become, seeing that the graphics seem rather cool and the weapons seem to have a really cool graphic.
After downloading and trying out the demo, however, my opinion on the game totally changed. The graphics were just messy, the misc. items that you could destroy always disappears using the same graphics, there is no originality for example, shooting the item for different angles enable the object to fly towards different directions, rather than just bursting into whatever they were initially made up of.
The weapons were also very boring, it required people to "farm" for small amounts of time for item upgrades which were really easy to get. There is also very bad gameplay because of the massive instancing, the PvP is messed up, and you can only get to PvE with people who are in your party.
The ridiculous medic is another very bad way to spoil players by allowing them to abuse it, i'm not sure if the medic is still around on the actual game itself, i just find that its there to abuse. The potions can roughly be spammed, and ranged players can "kite" certain mobs that they need to kill for quests.
There is also the part where you can simply tank and spam pots, now that, imo, is not tanking.
I seriously suggest that you save your money and not buy this game, the game retail alone costs money, might as well just save it up.
Hope you enjoyed my tip. Thanks.
Fast paced hacknslash game that is alot of fun to play. Your best bet is to hop over to www.hellgateguru.com for more information on the game. Good luck !
Fast paced hack&slash about sums it it. I enjoy the game in a diablo-esqe sense.
Dunno what the guy up there talking about spamming pots is smoking. They have a short cooldown and don't insta-replenish.
Game is stupid easy on normal mode. If you like the core gameplay but think it's too easy the Elite mode unlocked after you beat the game substantially tougher for new characters.
Good single player casual shooter / hackslash game, certainly not worth subscribing too under any circumstances. Their best bet would be to keep the game updated like guild wars and maybe an expansion or two. Or maybe they could charge a small amount for exta content every now and then like EQ does.
To be totally fair I think the game itself is pretty good but is no way on a par with Diablo.
Peace
I played it for awhile and really enjoyed it. It is fast past fun action. However it is hugely buggy and when you crash you almost always die. When you are in the 2-3 instance on a quest mobs become un attackable and you can't zone out of the instance. This happened to me a number of times and seems to be more prone to happen in certain instances then others. This and the crashing issue finally got me fed up enough with it that I just stopped playing. However I have not uninstalled it and will wait a couple months till the bugs have been beaten into submission then I'll try playing again...
In the meantime I'm playing eq2 and dabbling in vanguard again as they release patches

It amazes me how so many compare this to D2. It's not even close, albeit, better graphics, the game play is just so mind numbingly boring, it lost me after a few weeks. I did attain level37, but at this point, I have no reason to play.
I just can't get hooked on Hellgate. While it's fun to log in once in a while and shoot some stuff to pieces, it's too easy. Maybe it'll be tougher if I play enough to try the higher difficulties, but if that's going to take hours and hours of just trashing through stuff with no challenge, I don't know whether I'll ever get there.
Hellgate: London was a waste of time and money. Not just for us, the hopeful consumer and the return of our wayward developers -- but for Flagship Studios itself. First impressions last forever, and Hellgate left a bad one.
I don't know how much longer I could take seeing the same monster and the same scenery. Honestly, the only variety in the game was the equipment and even that was painfully lackluster.
Games that do not allow re-specialization of talents/skills are just.. stupid. What in the Hell were they thinking? If I want to explore a new style of play, I don't want to have to recreate an ENTIRELY new character just to "see how it goes."
Given that each of the 6 "classes" in Hellgate all had multiple build options the inability to re-spec was just ... STUPID and dated.
Also. Could they have made killing any less mindless? I mean, yes -- it is a hack-and-slash through and through but for the love of smurfs -- as a summoner on Hellgate, all I did was summon up my throng of elementals/minions and held down the left and right mouse buttons whilst I ran, usually blindly, into the masses. I especially loved zones where you could drop to the bottom of several levels and let the enemies stream into you and plow them down as they came.
SO - RIDICULOUSLY - EASY and BORING!
Do yourself a favor: don't try it, don't buy it and DEFINITELY DO NOT SUBSCRIBE to it!
Broken promises make me a sad panda.
The reason diablo 2 had a lot of staying power for some people was the lack of respec, so it is not "dated" or "stupid" its just that the game is to boring to play through a 2nd time that respec seems necessary.
Indeed, D2 had immense replayability, which pretty much covered having to create new characters. But Currently even I ,who personally hates respecs, am thinking about the positives of it...
Hellgate is a game you just log in and play for an hour, nothing more nothing less. I really enjoy the rather simple concept. You cant compare it to the bigger MMO's. It lacks depth, options. But somehow it's fun a few times a week, to distract the mind or just loosen your aggression
