Hey all, long time visitor first time poster. Anyway I'd like some suggestinos if any of you could give me some on a new MMO to hold me over for a while.

A little about my gaming history....

UO release - pub 16

EQ shortly after release-OOW ( or whatever it was that had epics 2.0)

WoW

I've probably tried most other games to an extent, but the above are the ones I've done the longest.

I"m looking for something substantially harder then wow, with a good population, and alot of content.

I loved the amount of content in EQ, but found wow to be so god awfully boring most of the time.

Currently I'm kinda messing around with EVE , but find that there's not really enough for me to do while I'm waiting a month for skill training. I gave EQ2 a try, and kinda liked it... but seemed like i was making it though EQ2 rather quickly as well.

What did you like most about Everquest?

I think you should try Vanguard.

find it amusing that you say vanguard is a clone,Then advise the player to wait on WAR.

If someone had came up to me in 1980 when I was on my Atari 2600 and said we will be playing games with thousands of people at the same time.I guess my response would have been,"but I only have 2 joysticks"

i never said being a clone is bad but although if he wants to play a good game like that mid as well go back or to EQ

Heh.   Good point on the WAR clone, which I think will be too PvP-focused.  I play UT 3 for PvP.  I play MMORPGs for 1) world immersion, 2) deep Questing, 3) character customization, and 4) other.

Everquest, if you return or just start, will be so far behind.

Many people are returning and/or starting Vanguard because of the success in improving performance with the latest Update 3 patch.

Most important things to me are content, and player population.

I don't want to play a game that's totally deserted, or one that gets boring after a bit.

I'm mostly waiting for AoC, and War...

If I went back to EQ I'd have to start over, when I left I'd given my account away. So vanguard is going pretty well now? I did play it for a while and I was OK with the pace... but the performance was just god awful. Did they fix the client memory leaks and everything?

    1)  Performance, since Update 3, has been the best yet.  I might have crashed 3 times in total since I have resubscribed a few months ago.

    2)  Population is increasing with new players and returners.  The world is so massive, though, it can feel that population is a bit sparse.  When I play on my alts, though, I am impressed by the amount of new players or those making new characters.

    3)  Other.  Raiding was just implemented.  I am not a fan of raiding, but they basically are finishing the game in addition to trying to enhance it.  The game keeps moving in the right direction.  You, if you are max level, will probably still feel that you want more from this huge world:  (a) content, (b) character customization, (c) fun features life fishing, inter alia.  Nevertheless, I think it is a game worth playing, and I enjoy it.

Have you thought about FFXI? It fits all your demands.

Although it's out for around 5 years now (a bit less long in the US) the population is still very good (400k subscribers, between 1.5k and 4k people logged in on a single server when I checked recently). With the 4 expansions out, it has an enormous amount of content and it takes a good amount of effort to get anywhere within the game.

The game is group based, but when I returned recently I had no problems finding groups even at low lvl. Because of the way that the job system is setup, there are always a good amount of people leveling low lvl jobs.

There's no free trial to the game, but a starter ack is available for a few (5, if not less) dollars in America which contains the game without expansion packs and a month of subscription, or a pack with the first three expansions is available for around 30$. Keep in mind that if you buy the starterpack, you'll have to purchase the expansions later on which will end up being more expensive then buying the pack with the expansions.

Also, the UI is hard to get used to and the game needs a lot of time investment, but if you can get past this, it's pretty good.
