I'd like to start by saying that i have only played the three day trial, but have worked up to lvl12 in that time. ive spent probably 15 hours or more playing. So far, i'm loving the game as a whole. However, i read the forums and i read a lot of gripes.. which i guess is normal. The squeaky wheel gets the grease so to speak. But, in these posts i see a lot of game doesnt do this right, doesnt do that right.. I kind of feel that maybe the game does too much right for most folks? Maybe they don't want their online world to be realistic (and some want it more so). Some things i have read;
1. cant walk backwards (uhm.. how often do you walk backwards in RL.. am i missing out on something?)
2. can't change weapons in the middle of firing while running and reloading. (ever tried to change from rifle to pistol in RL? not all that easy, there is a transition period)
3. I'm always broke. (well yeah, that does $uck)
4. the visuals arent fantastical enough/Audio needs a lot of work. (well, its a lot better than im seeing looking out of my window at work.. and that darn phone!)
These are just a few things i read and thought were funny to complain about. I understand a game is meant to be an escape from reality, but a little touch makes it a challenge and more realistic to me. And for those that complain about still taking damage behind walls, bullets tracking your targets.. well, this is alien and futuristic technolgy.. can you REALLY not see how its possible? I mean, who wouldn't think that their 1100 dmg EMP Rifle with Sonic resists +armor WOULDNT be able to track a mob? I give the game a thumbs up and definitely worth trying.
Comments
people have to complain about something, if you're not having fun then you must be doing something wrong. i barely remember leveling up to 33 and now that im 30+ sniper, its super fun sniping from 80 yds. while grouped mobs wonder why their buddy just dropped, im running back to sell the skull to a vendor. classes seem to be balanced but i only have 2 30+'s (spy and sniper). the clone system is innovative as its really easy to all the classes and really choose one you like. engineer seems like it will be a fun class too. all in all, this game makes it really easy to have fun (clan pvp, armor paint, very little grinding, the firepower you get when you group with people), and fun is whats important..
I may not spend my whole day walking backwards, but I take a few backward steps all the time.
Is this really not possible in TR?
Here's how it works in game. As long as you are firing a weapon then you walk backwards (while facing forward) just fine.
If you are just standing in a town or something and not firing a weapon, and you press the "S" key for instance to move backwards, you move back toward the camera but your avatar turns to face the camera in the process.
To me, and maybe it's just me, I don't see how this makes any difference at all to anyone.
That seems reasonable. People sure are whiny!
Then again, I've never heard any of the OP's complaints until now. Nearly all the negative comments I've heard have been content-related.
When was the last time you watched yourself do anything from a remote 3rd person looking down on yourself mode?
All I ever really wanted from TR was a 1st person view perspective.
But I guess RG is so in love with top-down 3rd person that he just couldn't see how anyone would want to play a game like TR in any other fashion.
Oh well. I would be playing today if it had 1st person view mode.
I dunno... I like the Third Person view. It gives you that familiar MMO feel coupled with its unique gameplay. Actually if I wasn't able to check out my armor, weaponry, etc. not sure if I'd like that.
Perhaps if they made it an option that coincides with the scroll-mouse viewing.

Unfortunately the Auto Assault engine didn't have a first person mode coded and when they started using that engine for Tabula Rasa they never bothered to include a first person mode.
The fanbois will jump up and down and say it's not the AA engine, but I have confirmation from an inside source that it is.
And I have a post from the community manager saying it isnt.
You're not just dealing with fanbois, but a cadre of shills. There's a reason that the other RGTR fansite/blogs are practically dead, and this message board so very, very active.
The community leader who discussed the AA connection on tobold's blog never denied that AA was a resource for RGTR, but instead tried to throw the challenger on the defensive and suggest that "it wouldn't matter, anyway."
But maybe there's a statement from a community leader who says otherwise and makes the straightforward denial. I'd be interested, myself, to see one.
Until you spread your wings, you have no idea how far you can walk.
So the question

LOL, pure semantics...
By altering the modules of the engine they could call it whatever they wanted to and
Cuppa Jo knew that telling the world TR was Auto Assault on foot would be like signing it's death certificate...
My info comes from someone that knows the truth.
Developers need to make their own engine and stop being lazy, wow is a good example on a good engine ( Atleast what I know ) and now I am not talking about the grafix but about the game play.. when it came it was new and intressting, all I see now is that developers are making copies of Lineage 2 for example with all this click and walk with no control over the chars actions. And also you being bound to the ground which makes you unable to jump up on obsticals which makes the games less free and less controlled by the gamer. I know making a new engine takes alot of time and money but it is sure worth it in the end.

So from Rustoleum then?
Gee if you say it - it must be true - because from reading your other posts / reliable sources I recognize you as the font of all reliable information in the world.
But is afraid to publicly state it in an interview
You know whats Amazing? If you stop reading the game forums, all those complaints magically go away.
Neat aint it?
No but seriously I have a gripe, I find the lack of an ability to fondle ones self very strange, I mean I can do it in real life, (as I am now), so why is that soo hard to add into TR.
Oh and I also have a very trustworthy inside source that tells me that I am Lindsay Lohan, so you best believe it.
Yeah, but can you do it while walking backwards?
Also, can you change your weapon while shooting?

Of course, they want to keep their job.
Use your melon.

I have a question, if your not such a fanbois your self, what the hell are you doing with this inside source to a game that based off your use of "fanbois" you dont care much for. Does this source also share things that are going to happen in the future in TR. If so please enlighten us. Sorry to jump off topic all, i do apologize.
Just cut the crap will you...........talking to the guy who has this "inside source".

1. I walk backwards and fire my gun in game all the time. I have no idea where this complant is coming from. Maybe it was a patch fix or something that happened before I started.
2. I reload weapons all the time while running. There is a timer issue on switching weapons, though, I noticed....maybe people are confusing this, I dunno. My GF, who is also deeply in to TR now, did run across a genuine bug in which she couldn't hit the number key 5 to switch to that weapon, but the bug hasn't repeated since.
3. Well, don't know what to say....I'm so flush with cash in the game it's ridiculous. In fact, I almost felt that TR's problem is it gives out too much cash and loot, frankly. Now, I did notice that many new players in the game are confused about how to acquire loot....you simply run over the corpse and pick it up automatically. But seriously, this game is almost Monty Haul in the level of loot it distributes, and I read that the next patch is going to make the cash flow even more easily. Now, I have only played up to level 21, so maybe the cash flow problem happens at higher levels, as it often does in MMOs, when the really good loot costs major bucks. So I guess I'll find out, later.
4. On the bullets tracking targets: I think this is cause by the confusion created when a game "feels" like a FPS, but is playing like a MMORPG. So far, I've enjoyed the combat in this game much, much more than I ever did in the more static environments of WoW and EQ2, but then, I went in expecting it to be "just another MMO" and instead found it borrowed enough of the feel of FPS's to make it fun for me.

Oh and one more thing (just for clarification): The graphics in this game are absolutely phenomenal, but only if your rig can handle it. I have a 8800 GTS card in a P4 3.0 ghz with 2MB ram, and it runs on Ultra (and Maximum if I don't mind chopping framerate a bit) just fine. If you are running anything less than an 8000 series card or equivalent from ATI, or have 1 GB ram or less, etc etc. then the graphics might just not be so exciting for you. But if you can manage it, this game is very nice looking; I think I am enjoying it's look and feel more than I do UT3 (haven't tried Crysis yet).

Cash flow depends on your play style and the weapons you use.
Eg as a Sapper - I tend to use lightning to soften up a few targets then finish them off with my polarity gun. And yes at lvl 27 the Polarity gun costs 32 creds everytime I press the fire button.
I have 1.1 million credits in my footlocker.
A friend is a lvl 24 commando. He uses his chaingun on everything. He has 127,000 credits. Upto level 22 I was helping to fund his chaingun addiction.
I have a noggin , melons are so old-school
I hear the U.S government has a job opening for someone to convince people that there really are weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. I think you would be perfect for the job and will happily provide a reference for you.
