Recommendations for a gaming laptop?

I know a lot of people think that gaming shouldn't be done on laptops in the first place, but my friend wants a mobile system that can run games (mobile being the operative word here).  So anyway, I was looking at some systems I could recommend to him, with the underlying motive in mind that I want him to be able to play Vanguard.  I don't know too much about laptops, but I defaulted my search to Dell's website since they seem to be a fairly safe choice.  I looked at two models, specifically the M1710 and M1730 and their hardware.  The 1710 boasts a 7950GTX (512 ram I believe) as its card, while the 1730 has two 8700s SLI (256 vid ram each for a total of 512).

Given this information, which would you guys suggest, keeping in mind that this laptop is supposed to be able to optimally run Vanguard.  Thanks!

Take a look at alienware.  The way they configure the laptops it is strickly for gaming.  A little more price but a good laptop.

I would really stay away from the dell gaming laptops. Myself as well as others have had nothing but trouble with their gaming computers.  Not good at all in my opinion. Id stay away from alienware as well..

This is a great website, guy builds them himself, can email him with specs and price rang you have in mind (http://www.killernotebooks.com/)

Another great band Id look into is acer.

Sager!  When you don't need the glitzy paint job and want honest to goodness power...as far as notebooks go.

    Hey guys,

Thanks for the replies.  Normally, I think I (personally) would go for a sager or something, but I'm apprehensive towards recommending a brand to a friend that's not commonly known.  The reason I find Dell so appealing, despite the horror stories, is because the customer service is so accessible -  that and there are 3 year warranties (with accidental care), which I think is a must-have when getting a laptop.  But, if I'm just being unfair to these other resellers, someone please allay my fears (for my friend).

    Alienware or Falcon Northwest.

You get what you pay for in the High-End systems markets.

    And that includes support services.

    Good Hunting

Personal experience...Sager has extended warranties available, so you can get it for up to 3 years.  Tech support has been great for me, the 2 times I contacted them.  I pretty tech savvy so I haven't used their support every time I had problems...just when I was tired or lazy of looking for a solution.

I purchased mine 1 year ago, the only kink (as with all notebooks), make sure to keep your cooling system clean.  Get the dust out to avoid overheating.  I had a Voodoo before my Sager (NP5950), although it was really pretty and snazzy looking, it performed really well and tech support was great too.  But now that I've tasted what owning a painted notebook is like, it's done for me.  There's really no reason, other than show, to get your rig painted.

If you go for Sager in the US, go to www.sagernotebook.com.  If you live in Canada, it's www.aetsolutions.ca and for latter, tell them FIREDORN sent ya.  They'll take good care of you.  Tech support is still done through Sager in the US.
