My 'consensus' (addressing the thread topic) is that AoC will be out as currently scheduled. It will be a bit thin on content to start and have some minor glitches, but will otherwise be a roaring success.
Funcom had one of the worst launches on record for a MMORPG (and that still survives) with Anarchy Online. I suspect that they are in the same technological boat with AoC right now. Game has been built with system requirements that are to steep for today's hardware and game design elements that exceed system capabilities to execute in a MMORPG environment. Knowing that they got smoked (and rightly so) with Anarchy Online, I would be very surprised to see an 'early' launch of AoC. Expect more delays. Note that Funcom has never really solved the problems of Anarchy Online. It is still buggy and still laggy. Even after all these years.
I played AO off and on for about a couple of years. It did have some fun and innovative aspects, but it was also game-breakingly buggy months after release. AFAIK they still don't have proper version control, and patches can break things that had been fixed months prior. Then when the Shadowlands expansion came out, it made me wonder if the dev team even understood what made their game fun in the first place. That's when I lost faith in Funcom's dev team. And I haven't seen anything in subsequent expansions that makes me want to play again.
That's why I'm not excited about Age of Conan. In my book, Funcom doesn't have a good track record up to this point.
For what reason do you espect the game to be delayed? Insight? Guesses?
I mean, for what I have read, I see no writings from Devs that the game is going to be postponed. As far as I know, the beta is going strong and there is still more than 3 months to the game should be released.
Have in mind that they would have no problems with making the products and then have an patch to be downloaded as they sell their copies.
Oh, and sorry, I know, I'm so optimistic. It might be because Im looking so much forward to it
I doubt there will be another delay but what we may see is a cutback on features or some of the functionality. Nothing serious, but Funcom could possibly leave out some of the pvp(endgame) elements at launch, dungeons, mounts. Hopefully it won't be another Vanguard though.
I am looking forward to trying it out and while a delay would disappoint me it definately would not stop me playing. If it is delayed it would be for a good reason and i'd prefer to play a game with minimal bugs rather than a disfunctional one that sends me back to WOW.
I played AC2 and towards its end it was a pretty good game but at the start it was really bad eg. whisper and guild chat would not work. The bad start is really what killed the game and if it was more like it's end product it would probably be still here today.

That would be incredibly unwise of Funcom since the endgame PvP, and mounts/mounted combat especially are major selling points of the game in the first place.

If it launches before Q3 '08, I am deeply worried about its initial quality. I firmly believe they will not make the March date.
I can't read this without laughing.

Hi, newbie here, sticking his head in.

After Vanguard i wont complain about a push back. As long as it doesnt get too out of hand. I would rather the game released solid then on time.
Spot on, I think I will go mental if its delayed. Im so terribly bored after finally shelve'ing WoW.

I'd rather see a delay than see that happen.
