So i was very skeptical about comming back to vanguard even after hearing the good changes about it, i played VG in beta and one month after beta and i hated it alot. So SOE is doing welcome back to VG promotion any account closed is now reopened from the 18th of dec to the 19th of january. I must say i iam in absolute shock with the changes.
First here are my current comp specs
Intel pent 4 3.0 ghz
Radeon 9550 256 ram
1 gig of ram
as you can see i have a very crappy computer, i couldnt even run VG on highest preformance setting. Now i can run VG at balanced setting with max 20 FPS, which is very good considering my computer. Now i was a little worried about the population, so i choose seradon the current highest pop server. And from level 1-10 i met some very nice people in my journey, and i met alot of new people around my level. It was a nice change of pace not seeing VG as a ghosttown any more, and the first dungeon we had done in tursh felt very EQ1 like almost gave back that old feeling of venturing in kurns tower again. Seeing other groups go by and what not which is another huge plus for me is no instancing in dungeons.
The people in the main chat were also very nice and helpful, i asked what is the most needed class on the server and of course healers, i dont like playing healers but i made a diciple and i was again shocked. Not only is it a great healer but also VERY interactive im not just staring at a persons status bar the whole time, i can throw a quick heal and then DPS with a very cool looking sword and the abilities are awesome.
So then VG was patched today first thing i noticed was that it was snowing but not the ordinary snow you notice in games like WOW and other types of games i mean it was really comming down, hail and all. They finnally added dynamic weather to VG which in its own is very quite awesome.
I must say SOE has a new customer and iam currently loving Vanguard ALOOOOOT. I gave SOE another chance since EQ2 is doing pretty well. Still that lingering fear still lies within me that SOE can go over the top and add changes that make this game way to easy or just screw up the complete game with one patch. But so far iam very much loving it. If any one has more questions just ask.

Wow this almost makes me want to try it out if I wasn't already engrossed in 3 other games this holiday season.
Where is it snowing in game? Is there snow everyewhere or just in in certain areas? Only asking as I really miss the seasonal changes in games like Asherons Call.
Well currently today i been only in a couple areas since im level 10 and its snowing pretty bad in tursh lol. But then again i made some other characters to see if SOE would keep in with the realism and they some characters starting areas snow and some dont. But when i made the desert starting area humans it was storming pretty bad the storm clouds were gathering.

If your comming back to Vanguard make sure you join the seradon server its the best others may feel like a ghost town but trust me seradon is awesome.

Definitely sounds like I'll be revisiting the world this evening to see The weather and how things look. If you don't mind listing a few spots of interest it would be most appreciated.
another thing there are like 2-4 new options in the VG in game settings for graphics that help ALOT with lag

Vanguard has improved performance, added raid content, and enhanced world immersion with dynamic weather, which I have not experienced yet but look forward to this evening.
I have had a love and hate relationship with Vanguard since its release, mainly due to performance problems; but since those have been fixed, I really enjoy the game.

Question about the weather, Does it play against you, like does your Cape move faster or your hair fly around, and maybe you move a little slower????
I have always wanted to try VG i have held off because of the Forums i have read here at MMORG and yeah I should n'tbelieve what everyone says. ATM I am enjoying Wow , but i have to omit the Graphics are gettig kinda old school.
I like playing 2 games at once hehe, right now i Play WOW and SIM Societies. I have a great system, But i do make WOW run "above normal" so when I am in wow, it gets the most CPU Ticks. I think i can run WoW and VG at the same time. Does VG have a window MODE?????
Windowed mode means you can move the game screen to a seccond screen and run IE and other appz and the game it self will not minimize

I really wanted this game to be a huge success - originally caught my eyes as a very open game like SWG when it first came out. Then came all the negative reviews from everyone including the beta testers, players and of course media.
I still haven't been able to try it. Maybe I'll give it a shot in a free period trial but I still wish it all the best.
I'm just waiting for the BioWare mmorpg mostly as most mmorpg's just don't seem to have me very interested. Unfortunately I'll be waiting until at least February or so JUST so they even reveal what the heck the game is based on.

I've been using the tweaks from various websites but my gameplay still stutters/pauses when new stuff is loading. its getting better though.

I got an email last night stating that it was free to play til Jan 3rd. So my bro-in-law tried it and said that he saw a lot of improvement. I will install tonight to check myself. Its just a big damn install 17 gig. And I only have 20 gig left off of a 120 gig HD. But thanks for mentioning the new weather effects. I will make a bee line to that.
I am, it has evolved, and it shall continue. This is not the game that was released earlier this year. It is now finally what it should have been, what we were promised it would be. Check out its current state, and I can almost guarantee that the hate will subside.
It's been nice to see a few more people around this last week, especially in the low level areas (I re-rolled all of my original characters from my initial start). There are still some performance issues, but they are better, and less show stopping. I'm having a lot more fun this time.

They call it Dynamic weather and this is what I experienced this evening:
Ran through Vault of Heros and suddenly it started to snow, ran back the way I came and it stopped, ran back and it was snowing.
So part of the zone was snowing, part wasn't.
They have rumoured that storms wander the world and someone in my guild said they were in a storm and it rained hard, they could barely see through it.
Could be all rubbish but I have know reason to doubt them, just hope a storm comes my way soon
So far very impressed.

I agree with you completely. But I am having fun now. I'm at work right now, or I would post a pic or two....sorry mate.
I started again last night and it is alot better bug wise the preformance is better but I still get some FPS issue`s it can be nice and stable at 30 fps then for some reason goto 8fps,Maybe it is because i do use a high resolution but My specs are aslo not that great with 3200+(overclocked) 7600gt 256mb and 2 gb ram,I think I will try to pick up another 1gb ram this weekend to see if it helps.
In the game itself is great,I tried to pick up where I left of on my shammy but had no idea where I was or what I was doing,So started a druid today(havent seen many in game)and got him to level 9 and I must admit loving it,As usual the quests are really well thought out and very interesting for the most part,I am on halgar server and it does seem to be a bit quiet though I did chat to 1 or 2 people,If they keep the improvements comming this could still be a great game and not the washout everyone(or mostly) thought it would be.
Overall enjoying the game and exploring the massive massive world,Just wish there was alittle more life in it and my fps were more steady.
If someone had came up to me in 1980 when I was on my Atari 2600 and said we will be playing games with thousands of people at the same time.I guess my response would have been,"but I only have 2 joysticks"

I quit a few months back myself, giving my level 50 characters away to friends with no intentions of returning.
BUT, having played pretty much ever other MMO out there, and finding myself getting bored fairly quickly I decided to give VG another look early last week.
I must say, I'm impressed.
I play on Sartok (FFA PVP), and am happy to see Ebonlore got the boot and a lot of the major PVP bugs seem to be rectified...though admittedly, there is still some way to go yet.
I am also loving the VG classes. The most recent MMO I left before heading back to VG was LOTRO, where I often found myself mind numbingly clicking 3-4 buttons MAX at level 30, in VG I already have 4 TOOLBARS full of USEFUL buttons at level 15. It's very refreshing, as is the world PVP.
And the 50% bonus exp couldn't have come at a better time.
Now excuse me, I'm off to Renton's Keep.
