Since it’s the Christmas Holidays, I thought I would let my fellow gamers know that LotRo has dropped to $9.99 for the game. My son likes the game, I prefer EQ2, but going to buy so  I will atleast have an account.

And trolls, this is a FYI. If you don't like it, who really cares!

Turbine has NOT dropped the price for LOTRO.  They are running a holiday promotion.  If you create an account during this time period you can get the $9.99 price.  After the holidays the monthly charge will be the same as it was before.

It's just me, so open the door.

He gave you inaccurate information. Signing up for a 3 month recurring membership will only cost $29.97 per bill as long as the billing is continous. This billing change can be done to existing acocunts also.

    Q. What do you get for the LOTRO player who has everything?

LOTRO was very ambitious for it's launch. The anticipated 1 million beta accounts. Now they're already offering free trials and other gimmicks to get people in the door. Either they're doing their best to steal subscribers, or LOTRO isn't making as much money as Turbine thought.

The title of this post is a bit misleading as others have noted.

Some will see the title and draw the conclusion the game is doing poorly, ergo they dropped the price.  This is not the case.  Rather it is merely indicative of their seeming ability to occasionally think outside box.  In this case they are using a marketing teaser rate for the holiday seasons.  Merry Christmas and happy holidays.

since $9.99 is basically the cost of a 1 month subscription and you get a free month with purchase of the game, Basically the LOTRO game is free, just needs to buy the sub. HOnestly its not a bad idea. I know that LOTRO has some failings, but it is still a very good PVE game. Also, the things about MMORPGs is that they grow. What you have now is just LOTRO infancy, This game has a lot of room to grow and get better

the game is doing poorly , the game is doing poorly, the game is doing poorly

    Could you stop this allready?

Mmorpg world, let me break this to you

The game is not WOW - thus it is doing poorly

    EVE is doing poorly

    Tabula Rasa is doing poorly

    LOTRO is doing poorly

    COX is doing poorly

    GW is doing poorly

    EQ2 is doing poorly

None of this games can hope to match 9 million subscribers ... nor will any MMO in future

Just think ... in same time while doing poorly LOTRO is MMO of the year by Game Spy. It still holds high ranking on MMORPG.COM (although hype is way way over) , and Turbine is widely regarded and complimented - by people of bioware, blizzard ...etc

All I can say. Kudos Turbine. I will probably get the 3 month plan ... why not 25$ for 3 months (which continues until you pay 3 months in advance) is a sweet deal indeed

Oh I took his post to be that they were doing this as a holiday feature. I piss assed read through it. I knew about the $9.99 a month subscription. I was talking about the game itself. But anyway, very good deal in my opinion.

Ok after reading this thread Im completely confused.

The OP just said the price dropped for the game, he never said anything about the monthly sub price.

His link shows the price of the game media is $9.99.  My question is, is this a sale price or a new price for the game?

lets put the monthly charge aside, this topic only has to do with the media.

I think it's a sale price, most places still sell it for 20-30 dollars. I can't understand why people freaked out about the monthly sub price when he clearly posted the ebgames link for the actual game.

I bought the collectors edition for $20 recently at gamestop while the the regular version was still listed at $50.

This game is priced all over the spectrum, again, the actual game.

I'd say the majority of PC games drop to $10-$20 after six months or so. It's nothing new, really. I tend to wait a while to buy games anyways, being a cheap ass gamer and all. At $10 it's well worth it for anyone on the fence about the game to give it a shot. DDO is $8 now on Amazon, which enticed me into giving that game a shot too.

This is quite the funny thread. I knew EXACTLY what the OP was talking about...yet everyone else here seemed so confused..

Yet, if they would have just clicked on the link...

Yes..LOTRO was marked down for Black Friday, then raised back up...but now 9.99 again...weird..as to another poster...yes, games usually do drop to 20 bucks after about 6 months or so...not 10...so, this is either a sale or a last attempt to garner some scrips...

WoW or GW never had to do this...

    Cheers!

I think it's both - sort of. While not necessarily a "last attempt" to garner subscriptions, it is an attempt to do so. Why else would the price be so low. What's all conjecture is the reason why, and we'll probably not find out. From my experience in game the population isn't necessarily falling. I clearly have no way to objectively tell, but passively, things seem fine.

So, I'd peg this as a sale - an extended sale perhaps, but a sale with the idea of increasing subscription numbers, and getting people to try the game for longer than the trial period.
