I'm thinking about getting this game and um I'm just wondering in this game do you have to party to level up or can you just as easily solo your way up to lv cap

T.R is very solo friendly.
I cant speak for the higher levels as I am less than half way through the game and level 27.
There is no content I am aware of that you are forced to group - although groups will certainly make some of the instances easier. Then again to solo you just come back when you are a few levels higher.
T.R is also very casual friendly. The main maps arent overly large, and you can use the the teleporters located in the outposts to teleport to any other outpost on the map that you have already been to and market the teleporter by running over it. There are dropships for fast travel between the main maps, and wormholes for travel between planets/continents.
There are plenty of missions to do to earn EXP, a kill bonus for maintaining a killing streak, a surplus store (auction house) where you can buy better gear if you arent having much luck with drops.
The cloning system allows you to try different classes without having to redo all the content.
So, the cloning thing.. you can change your class? Would it be like FFXI if you have played where you can be all the classes and you level which one you want, when you want?
At level 1 you start as a recruit. At level 5 you choose to go down the soldier or specialist branch. At level 15 you choose another subclass, and at level 30 you choose a further subclass.
e.g at level 5 you choose to be a soldier - at level 15 - clone before choosing your sub-class. You now have two level 14.999999 soldiers. You can make one a ranger and the other a commando. You then have to level both of them to 30. At 30 before choosing subclass clone your ranger. You can then create both a sniper and a spy.
To make any classes in the specialist line - start a new character - at 5 choose specialist, at 15 clone, then choose sapper and biotech.
The higher up the tree you go, the less content you have to repeat. You cant clone a soldier and create a specialist.
Cloning is also the only respec feature in the game. So when you clone you get to reassign your skill points, so you can put them into skills you are using more.
Your footlocker is shared between all your clones. So you can use it to store money/armor/weapons etc that you have found but cant use to use on another class.
All clones have the same last name.
There is one Target of Opportunity quest on each map that you can do to earn titles and if you complete all the subquests - an extra clone point.
Allright dude cool, you really sound like you know what your talking about, thanks take care.
You can solo to cap easily, very shallow gameplay, feels a lot like a single player console game.
The first player to cap the game capped it in 5 days after the 3 day headstart solo, a total of around 1 week for him to cap.
Average MMO gamers will cap in very little time compared to other games.
No real end game, clan vs clan pvp is all there currently is.
Whilst I disagree on whats an average MMO gamer - I agree with Thomsonsub that if you play 8 to 10 hours a days for 8 days - yes you will hit the level cap very quickly.
On the other hand - if you spread those hours out - like the casual gamers that are the target audience for Tabula Rasa you should have many months of play.
They are patching the game every two weeks - this includes bug fixes and additional content. The first operation (larger free content addition) is due sometime in January 2008.
With a retail expansion due late 2008.
i played hard for 2.5 days during the free trial. i found areas i could not solo, but most missions you can. i will go back to them once higher skilled or once i find a group of folks i like to hang with. so far though, i've played to lvl12 solo.
TR is the MOST solo-friendly MMO I have ever seen. maybe a little TOO solo-friendly, imo.
Is there always new people to see like, everywhere there is atleast someone if you know what I mean..Or is it like Star Wars Galaxies?
Solo!! (why would you group in an mmo?!! <-------humorous sarcasm) only grouped one time because i was hijacked but i plan on soloing the rest of the way, mission wise. i do help on missions after i have completed them however (hence the hijacking). great game, level 24 now. customer service still sucks.
can you smell that?!!...............there is nothing quite like it.....................the smell of troll in the morning............i love that smell.
i'm not sure what you mean dream... if youre asking are there always other players around.. most of the time id say yes. especially in the larger bases. if youre running through the wilderness, then not always but i think a lot of people travel the same paths so it's not unheard of. Right now with the free trial, i think you will see plenty of people. there are always people chatting though. i log in to pegasus server as it usually has the highest load. no lag issues for me really.
It depends what timezone you play in as to how many people are on.
But the general channel is across all maps on your server so you will always see people chatting, and now - gold farmer botts spamming.
The early maps are instanced - On Orion (U.S West Coast) wilderness has 6 instances, divide has 4 and palisades has 2.
I still see real people running around - besides the two friends I play with.
At higher levels I expect you will see more people as there is only one instance of those maps
In my opinion, and the reason why I didn't buy it:
TR is just too much like any other console game out there. It's so easy to solo that there is never really any reason to group, at all, and the content is very easy to get through, in general. There's no need, ever, to group with other players.
It's a very FUN game but I just couldn't see paying a monthly fee for gameplay I can get from a single player game either on a console or on a pc.

I like solo friendly a lot. Even "the mmo" can be solo'd to cap in a week so I wouldnt worry there - yes there is no end game in TR yet, but then thats fairly normal for a new release. I enjoy the journey to the end, not the getting to the end, i dont watch xp every minute etc, I wander round just exploring a lot for fun... will take me months to get there and that is exactly what I want.
Tabula Rasa gives you opportunity to play solo if you like or in group. Instead of spamming and searching people to join instance half a day (like ie: WoW), you can just go solo/duo/trio and the instance lvl (amount of mobs and overall difficulty) will adjust to the number of players in the instance. This is really GREAT feature.
Personally I prefer max player groups. More mobs = more fun = more exp = faster instance walkthrough.
Note that some instance are nearly impossible to pass solo for some classes, unless you get a lvl higher than the lvl instance is dedicated.
Generally TR is the best MMO I have played so far (Played L2, EQ2, LOTRO, WoW, GW) and if there was a lifetime subscription I would probably bought already.
You guys are going on about soloing... And some of it isn't entirely correct.
Dream, what no one is mentioning to you is that while you CAN solo your way along, you WILL have a better and less frustrating time of it if you get a group up for some of it!
You CAN encounter missions, instances, areas, etc that are EXTREMELY challenging solo. Some are near to undoable "at level and solo".
If you decide to play on cassieopia and want an ingame contact to help steer you onto the right path? Send me a PM here. We will arrange something. I have a soft spot for those who have suffered the treacheries of SOE.
One thing I think the OP should know is as far as the community is concerned you are basically dealing with Counter Strike Kiddies, you will probably be turning off chat within a few seconds of logging in.....RG was targeting one audiance and got another, not the first time this has happend though. Verant targeted D&D players with EQ and ended up with Doom players for the most part.
tode, is this because of the free trial though? im new so i wasnt here beforehand. i suspect the flood of "kiddies" occurred recently and will abate when they stop the trial, or enough people have tried and likeddisliked it and move on.
I have honestly seen it since open beta and there is a core group that has bought the game it seems just to be Asshats in chat. To me it's like all the ones Blizzard banned from Barrens chat went to TR. That wouldn't be a big deal if TR had GM's, but it's like they truned the game on and walked away leaving it to it's own devices.

Say what? Clearly you have not spent much time in game and watching chat. Not only do GMs monitior chat, they have banned many farmers, greifers and even on these very forums...been accused on spending too much time chatting and not enough time catering to other players every demand. Heck, even RG is a regular in general chat....something most other MMOs has neer seen (just imagine an SOE suit logging in SWG and talking to players in Theed. lol). At least TRY to get some of your facts straight before tossing out BS like it's true.
