Had this been released a year ago, it might have interested me. However I play mmrpgs for the experience, not the graphics, and unless DAoC greately changed/improved the basic gameplay to offer me something new, doing levels 1 through 50 all over again is not something id be looking forward to. Id rather wait for WoW and experience something totally new.
As for DAoC's graphics, I was quite content with them originally. It was the very buggy/annoying frontiers system and the rampant cheating that made me quit the game. Mythic moved FAR too slowly at fixing things.

Played: AC1, DAoC, E&B, SWG
Tested: AC1, AC2, DAoC, Eve, Planetside, Rubies, Lineage 2, MU Online
Wouldn't touch DaoC again with a hundred foot pole.
I can't stand the ridiculous, semi-historic context. No graphic overhaul is gonna make that go away.
Make a game historic or create a fantasy background of your own.

i played DAoC at release for a few months, it got very boring so i dont play anymore i had a bard i belive
I am looking forward to the graphics upgrade for DAoC. I still have an active account, but I rarely log on anymore. It's not that the game is boring or anything, I am just trying out some others I have on my shelf at the moment.
I plan to get back into DAoC, but with World of Warcraft and Everquest II coming, I'm not sure how long it'll last. Graphics can definitely enhance my experience with the game, but not that much.
What I am looking forward to even more than the graphics is the new features in Catacombs, especially the instanced dungeons.
I think something major has to be done with the crafting system and the player economy, or whatever economy there is. If there were player shops and merchants, that would be nice. I can't get into the crafting part of the game the way it is now . . .
Even though I haven't seen the whole gameworld yet, I still think it is limited compared to other mmorpgs. Maybe the world needs to be expanded . . . (not just the New Frontier, but the PvE areas of each realm).
It may be difficult to do, but once other thing I wish DAoC could add is more customization of your character look. Overall, I really enjoy playing DAoC just the way it is, but as can be said for any mmorpg, it can still be improved . . .
*those who voted "I dont care much for Graphics" offically have crappy computers*
Anyhow, Kuruption, love the sig man. Just got into Naruto, wicked series!
I see yalls point, however ive just started playing and im having a ball, so if daoc keeps me intrested past the release of wow and long enough till catacombs it'll be sick
however, i think you must pay 30$ for the expansion. i think mystic should take a chance and make it free, i'd bet they'd get more subscribers than buying the expansion for 30 im sorry to say
ah well, here's to World of Warcraft, may it be all that we dream, and more
Now if they'd just overhaul the balance between the classes. Or doing something about the huge disparity between the three realms population.

They panic, so... just hold them down
I could live like this
I'm closing in; hate all around
I could be like this
Hearing them; them in my head
How can they be so sweet... sweet?
I personally don't think a graphics upgrade is necessary for DAOC. The game looks nice and doesn't need a heavy duty machine to run it. It could definitely use some content upgrades, though. There aren't enough activities.
Graphics don't make a game. And 90%+ of the people who quit isn't because of the graphics.

No, no and no.
I'm on of those people that enjoy equal games, equal chances. DAoC on the other hand has now turned into a BuffBot game, where's me, as a casual gamer, can't do anything worthwhile because that other dude has 3 accounts, each of them healing and buffing him all the time. I know, games are supposed to be just games, but the human nature simply demands to be competetive.
I tried the Back-To-DAOC trial, me who bought the game when it came out, played the free month and never tried it again, felt even more bored. I was totally alone, i saw one person in a big city. Tried other servers, so zero people ni cities. Perhaps all of them went to the Expansion lands. Felt boring, as why should i waste alot of time soloing, when the other guy "solo's" too with his 2 buffbots, gaining more exp, killing faster and getting the items. And i don't want to buy 3 expansions, 3 accounts and 50 platinum off ebay to play an hour or two every day.
Oh well, im probably just not fond of the Click and wait type of MMORPG's that dominate these says starting from EQ to DAoC

I already play, and will continue to play, so none of the options suit. However, new graphics would not be enough to drag me back. Gameplay > graphics.

There are player run merchants in DAoC. Players can place a consignment merchant on their houses and place items for sale there. The problem is that getting around the housing area in DAoC is a nightmare. You are merely given a lot number and then have to do a /houseface to get there. Never mind that there may be a lake or an impassable ridge between you and the house. Mythic REALLY needs to redo that part of the game.
The biggest problem with DAoC to me is the imbalance among the realms. It is almost always Albion, Midgard, Hibernia in order of dominance. I play a Hibernian as my primary now but played an Alb before that, so it's not just sour grapes that Albs dominate the frontier. In fact, I think it has gotten worse since NF was released.
Mythic has granted /level 30 rights to certain realms to boost population, but they need to find a better solution to balance out the realms.
The graphics update will be nice, but I'd rather see gameplay changes.

You see, every mammal on this planet instinctively develops a natural equilibrium with their surrounding environment, but you humans do not. You spread to an area, and you multiply, and you multiply, until every natural resource is consumed. The only way you can survive is to spread to another area. There is another organism on this planet that follows the same pattern. Do you know what it is? A virus. Human beings are a disease, a cancer of this planet.-Mr.Smith
im back on the 14 day free trial, acutaly it ends today.
it still is the best game out there, but to make me, and im sure alot of people stay it would need to do a few things
balace the realms, the relic race is right now about -albion 60, midgaurd 18, hibernia 13
add some new classes perhaps with one of the upcomeing updates
do something about stealth classe, right now the bg's are 70 percent stealthers. make it so they can be seen easier.
range on damn buffbots, so you at least have to put your bot in harms way to use it. right now its a joke.
new servers where there is acutaly a reason for me to get crafting up, right now everyone has an alt who is lgm everyting
and no /lvl
Never tried Daoc. If they gave me 6 months subscription for free without taking my credit card sure. If there is a 14 day pff how much fun can you have in 14 days? Not much. And it sounds like a level grind boredom. What point is it for me to join a game thats years old, when it takes 6 months to level my character because face it its not fun if your not maxed and the best you can be.
SO nah I will stick to games that I play currently. Also games that are maybe coming out in future. No MMO that is coming out interested me much at all. EQ2 would look like remotely good if it supports PvP from the start. If not ill pass I dont wanna play PvE for 6 months. Or I dont want to not play and then join when PvP comes out and be 6 months behind everyone.
Ill wait for Operation Flashpoint 2. Ill continue playing Eve Online (which ill never quit). Maybe in 2006+ there will be games that interest me coming out.
Lol, i dont care bout graphics, i care bout gameplay and community.
BTW my PC has a GeForce FX 5700 and i dont think its crappy
DAoC was fun for the first couple months then I started to play off an on. I only played for a year but New Frontiers has made me quit! the game got old to me fast and New Frontiers isnt what most people expected it to be
