CHANGES TO EQ

FarScapeFarScape Member UncommonPosts: 185

I haven't played EQ in a long time I closed my account cause I work so much but Now i want to reopen my account. I heard they made some really bad changes?!?! They took out the boat from FreePort to Kaladim!!! AND replaced it with a caster gnome! THE boat was AWESOME! Is it true and is the game lame now cause of all these changes. and how is the new graphic change. Is it better?

    honoustly hard to say....

basically they've sacrificed the old involving world, for a more Newbie friendly and general convenience one.

While some of the stuff is excellent for newer players, like the class newbie armor quests avaible at everytown, some other stuff like the removal of boats is unpleasant....

    I miss those boats...

Met such interesting people, and we'd all get drunk and run around on the boat.

No offense, but the boats sucked.. the first time.. was "Oh, this is cool"  and then it was GDI It takes so friggin long to get anywhere. I mean honestly, anyone remember their first boat ride? I do.  but I also remember when the new expansions would come out and WHAM, the boats would be broken... then I'd have to buy a port /whine.  AND, I remember when Kunark came out and omg, what a pain in the arse that was. Both boats sucked.  and then Velious yet another boat screw the players crap.  So... mourn your boats, but give me a shorty to kick around for a "summon my butt to where I want to go" anyday.

I seem to recall it taking HOURS and HOURS just to get from Kelethin to Qeynos... Now, it's Kelethin book to POK to Qeynos book, mind you the whole.. Oh my god, I'm going to get squished by a Sand Giant or a spectre train in Oasis is gone, but you know, the game grows with it's players...

for a NEWBIE, Yes, I would have to admit some of the "thrill" is gone forever.

    my 2 cents.

Once upon a time, when Kunark was released, I decided to go there. My level 18 enchanter was bound at the docks in Oasis. I went to Freeport and got on the boat to Butcherblock, and then got on the shuttle to Firiona Vie. When I arrived at the boat in Timorous Deep, I went to embark and fell through the ramp. I gated back to Oasis. Ran back to Freeport, took the stupid boat back to Butcherblock, got on the stupid shuttle, rode to Timorous Deep, got on the boat, and then found a bad spot and fell through again. Gated back to Oasis and decided the chanter would have to wait for another day to see Kunark, 'cause I was good and tired of boats.

It would be nice if they had left the boats in, as well as having the translocator gnomes... Although the last time I tried to use a boat in Erudin, the shuttle and the boat were no longer in sync. And that sucked.

But as far as the rest of the changes, I didn't like them at first. I felt that the game was getting too newbified. But after taking a few months off and coming back, I decided to look at it as a brand new game and not the same game I started playing years ago, and I find that it holds up quite well as the game it has become, especially compared to some of the other, more shallow games out there.

Real newbies don't miss boats because they never knew them to start with, but I am sure they have their own thrills, based on the game as they know it. I am sure every young shadow knight heading out across Lesser Fay to go on an LDoN adventure knows the fear of that pained unicorn, for example. I am sure some newbies still get eaten by the griffon in East Commonlands, too.

I have been playing Everquest originally from the release and recently started playing the game again recently and find they have added of the lot of new features and I really think it was for the better. I have always enjoyed the playing the game but its hard taking time out of other MMORPG games to start playing another. I currently have been playing Galaxies, Planetside and Lineage II which are all MMORPG games. I personally think Everquest has the best and easiest setup for new people to the game and am totally looking forward to the release of the new version.

I also remember the good times with the alcohol, my friends and I used to play that game a lot whenever we could get on at the same time. After gaining a couple of levels and getting our new weapons or spells we would buy lots of alcoholic drinks and get wasted and go to Faydark and jump of the trees and almost kill our characters. Our alcohol tolerance was completely maxed with the number of times we did it. I hope they keep that feature in the new version.
