So i've played the 3 day trial and loved the concept of the game, the graphics, and several other nice things.
However I couldn't help but wonder why the Bane are not a playable race? The PvP really lacks imo for this game. If they had the Bane as a playable race they could very easily of made certain zones a lot like DAOC where control points would of been much funner to take over when fighting against players.
Has this option been discussed?

I agree with you that would be cool!!!!
thats the only thing holding me back from buying Tabula Rasa, they day they add another playable race and some good PvP, im running to buy the game.
Playing as Bane would be awesome!
Yeah this has been discussed a bit before.
I'll say it again, that if they did do this, it would be great for PvP. It makes much more sense to have humans fighting the Bane, rather than humans fighting against humans.
The problem is that you'll have is either you'll have to make it similar to LotR's Monster Play, or they'd have to basically recreate the game in terms of missions, maps, etc. At the moment if they were to implement this as a Monster Play sort of feature, I think that alone would give TR another good feature.
I would hate to see them pull away resources right now to develop a whole other aspect of TR than added features like vehicles for example.
Agreed 100%. But if thats the case why not have remote controlled wars? Say at level 20 anyone can get another avatar (which is a robot of some kind or something) and they all get teleported to this one zone where its free for all waging war, with rewards.
Keeping everything in the context of the game, the lore and the story, I could see that working. I had suggested at one point too, for PvPer's to offer a sort of X-Men or Star Trek Holographic Training room meets TR. An area where players could gather up together, and battle each other for the sake of training.
I don't mind the inclusion of features just so long as it goes along with the original concept of the game, and doesn't break immersion.
Interesting idea Gor.
Yeah thats what I was getting at, it would be either Monster Play or what you described, basically remaking the whole game experience from the angle of the Bane.
Which I thought would just require a significant amount of work, and would be a massive expansion. Not saying I wouldn't appreciate the work, nor see it as valuable, just alot of work for them to pull together in leu of adding other unique features.
But you are right - when that wasn't the original gameplan it will take a lot to make it so.
lol, isn't that just the way of it. a war game and no pvp. ....
Ok if we can't play bane then how about human renegades. Somebody always sells out to the enemy. A traitor quest at lv xx and you are wisked away to a hidden base inside bane turf, say give up a lz or two for the renegade camps.
I really enjoy PvP, but playing the bane, I don't know I feel it would be too...WoW like. Most people who play this game try to escape WoW.
I say that, many people come from swg after SOE (sorry, I know saying SOE upsets allot of people) killed it...
Another playable race, perhaps a friendly alien race but I cant see this game ever having all out war. It would not fit with the story. At least, the story as it stands.
I would like to see more pvp in TR, Instanced BG etc.
I would more like the see the crafting system killed and totally revamped.
Add Bane as playable.
Again, tons of potential with this game. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for several things from TR.
I'd be willing to bet that playable Bane will be part of a paid expansion.
Why no Bane? Because the Benefactors saw WoW's retarded Ally vs Horde crap and were like "F that".
keep waiting for AoC or Darkfall(lol), you forum PvPers.
hopefully, when they implement a full-fledged PvP system into TR(and it is a matter of WHEN, not IF), it'll be something meaningful and not the Gankfest Style FFA that the Forum PvPers seem to champion.
We keep looking for games that break out of the general cookie cutter mold and then gripe when a game tries to do just that. If you want to play a game with opposable sides and rampant unrestricted PvP there are a hundred games out there for you why try and get TR to become just another example of that model. Is it so hard to work with other players toward a common goal or what? Can you only find enjoyment in a game unless at the end of a hour long session toward a goal that you've gamed with a couple of other players toward and finally achieved, if you can then stab them in the back and run off with the prize yelling PWND YOU NOOBS?
Thats a sad state to be in and an even sorry goal to try and get a game manufacturer to buckle to that mindset. The story line in TR is Earth was over run by the Bane and humanity has banded together to fight back, now you want that story line to be, and humanity turned against itself and destroyed the last remenants of humanity? Sorry but it doesn't fit.
Make the Bane a playable race... now lets look at what is currently happening. One player can destoy literaly hundreds of Bane at once, why would you want to play such a gimped Race? A Race whose only seeming advantage is huge numbers. Once you start Playing Bane though you'll start crying for balance and better armor, weapons and abilities like what your human counter part has but bane were never intended to be... Thus you throw TR into the same pot as any other Fantasy Based game but for the names and appearance of the avatar, Lasers instead of Bows, Logos abilities instead of magic etc... happy now, you've made TR into WoW. Now go make a Night Elf and dance in Military Surplus and beg for credits.
I think there should be Bane in the game. Adding them would NOT necessitate reworking the starting areas. See, they already have the perfect mechanic for the Bane - Wormholes. The Bane could be attacking through the wormholes, essentially establishinbg footholds in this zone of reality.
The Bane zones would essentially be behind the wormholes for the starting area - they'd only encounter humans on assaults (which they could teleport into). As they approached mid 20s to 30s they could start interacting more and more with the human controlled zones, until they moved mostly/completely into contested zones. Meanwhile humans could start to get more and more missions 'through the wormhole' into heavily Bane turf.
It would probably require reworking some of the Lore, but honestly, it would make for an interesting experience.
