It's nice that they're doing this but i don't think many people will want to come back in it's current state.

I played Vanguard for well over a year, and finally got fed up with all the little annoying bugs.

I heard about the free play, and decided lets try it again. I've been gone for a couple of months, and wanted to see what improvements they have made.  I was really suprised to see the game is even more laggy than it used to be.

Too bad really, I always thought this game had potential.

Ex-subscribers get free time, yet loyal players get what?

Its all in a good gesture, but it is probably a last ditch attempt to try and get people to resub for the game by doing this.

However, 1. The game world is absolutly devoid of other players (heard you can see players in the lvl 45-50 area's though) but how ya going to get there without grouping as i am damn sure you will need to group to progress, without lower ended players that will be impossible. 2. No players = one hell of a boring game. 3. Its still bloody laggy, some say it isnt, i say it is, not as laggy as it used to be, but if you put in the ammount of players there was at release to whats there now it would be just as laggy. 4. With someone posting theat SoE have partnered with a gold selling site, this entails gold will be officially allowed to be sold on their games from their partner (more profit for them), but bad for the economy. How long would it be before rare items find their way into this? 5. The actual games graphics now look dated, and its not even 1yr old yet. 6. Bugs still in game, inc the weather, as you carnt escape it whether you go indoors to stop the dots all over your screen or stay outside, there is absolutly no feature or way to turn this off.

These reasons i will not be renewing my VG account, and reason #4 will mean i will also not be going to EQ2 either. I hate gold spamming and sellers, but if SoE have legalized it on their servers to try and take a cut in the action and STILL CHARGE US to PLAY, then thats 1 step too far, they crossing the line here and are starting to take us customers for a ride.

This has to be the most half arsed attempt to get new subscribers that I have ever seen.

We are reactivating old accounts (like we are diong you a favour)....free trial? bonus xp? any real reason to log on and stay a while?

Highly anticipated update?  When Sigil was in charge, they had no intentions on making raiding the premier content.  It was suppose to be all about single group content, first and foremost.  Yet another SOE game following the pathetic raiding treadmill.

With PvE raiding, it has never been a question of being "good enough". I play games to have fun, not to be a simpering toady sitting through hour after hour of mind numbing boredom and fawning over a guild master in the hopes that he will condescend to reward me with shiny bits of loot. But in games where those people get the highest progression, anyone who doesn't do that will just be a moving target for them and I'll be damned if I'm going to pay money for the privilege. - Neanderthal

Sony didn't partner with livegamer to start selling gold in all their current subscription based games. The partnership with livegamer likely has a lot more to do with the new Free Realms game they are working on which is entirely free to play and uses a "micro-transaction" business model of letting people spend small amounts of money to purchase in game items.....however, I don't think Free Realms is going to be an MMORPG like we all know and love....more than likely it would be more like a Sims-online type game....

Last night I couldn't get any of the UI interfaces to show up and when I finally fixed it the lag was so bad when a large number of people (PC or NPC) were around.  Opening doors is still hell.  Out in the wilderness with not much around it was beautifully smooth.

I'd hoped they made some improvement in this area, sadly not :(

I won't be resubscribing.  I figure, anyway, even if they do fix the bugs, there'll be no expansions as there are not enough players.  I don't want to be stuck in a dead end game.

Well i jumped on last night and with my low end spec machine which i could barely play this game on 6 months ago was running this game quite well so when u say that this game is still laggy as hell where exactly was it laggy i mean i a running a Amd athlon xp 2800+ (single core :( i hope santa is generous this Christmas) radeon 256mb agp vid card and i was running it at medium specs with around 20fps no lag was just running smooth i was simply amazed with how much this has improved i know there is still a long way to go but  i think SOE have done some great stuff with this title so far and if ppl would just give it  a go instead EGO bashing it they would probably be suprised. And ok maybe this is a lame way of trying to get ppl to resub but hey a free month of playing a game over Christmas does not seem all that bad to me i mean are they not allowed to try and get there playerbase back? All i can say is Excuse them for trying.

    He's including beta

  • marzguitarzmarzguitarz Member Posts: 39

I reinstalled the game and found it very laggy at near lowest setting.  I left because of lack of content, poor graphic engine and Gold Spammers. I can tell you now I will NOT be returning. I don't trust SONY, as soon as they took over Gold spamming went through the roof. Seems odd to me but that's just my opinion.  I can't understand how LOTR online have awesome graphics and it runs as smooth as can be without a hitch.  It's just too bad LOTR isn't that fun. Man I miss the old Ever QUest, and it's huge world especially Velious.

How in the hell can you be allowed to include beta.  Testing and playing should be considered 2 different things and seeing that beta was free I would consider that pure testing.

I am playing the game at the lowest settings and with a medium comp and I find that I can 1. Play indoors with fps in the 60s 2. Raid with fps in the 20s.  As far as lack of content I would have to say you are incorrect for even leaving in the beginning due to this.  Maybe leaving because you could not experience content because players were abandoning the game, but not because of lack of content.  As far as a poor graphics engine, you have me beat there, the best I can say is that Sony is suppose to rehaul the graphics engine and I believe them because the game has done nothing but improve since they took over.

Now we get to gold spammers.  I would not blame Sony for gold spamming because gold spammers were terrible when Sigil was at the helm, I can say this though, I reactivated my account 2 weeks ago and since then I have recieved one gold spam message. ONE! And that was at about 3 o'clock in the morning.  As far as I can tell, gold spamming is dead on Vanguard.

I actually expected some people to mention that this is a great promotional for a game that is up for most improved game of the year on this very website.  Sony is telling the community, "come back and see what we have done."  I forgot that this is such a SOE/Vanguard bashing site.  It is a pity, the reviews on this game have been favorable since Sony has taken the game over.  I will admit that they have f-d some games up over the years, but what Sony has done to this game has been wonderful.  The raid content is interesting, their holiday promotionals have been great, and the community is thriving.  Whoever said that there is noone playing Vanguard must have been on the PVP server because I have seen a lot of people on this game, both mid and high level, and the community has done nothing but grow and prosper.  You may bash me all you want and say I am a fanboy or what not, but I am one, and I became one even after being sorely disappointed with the launch of this game.  Nine months after the launch of the game I finally believe that it can stay and that it is worth my time and money to play.

Maybe if the content that is there was fun and entertaining to anyone who isn't hardcore, they wouldn't say things like "Lack of Content".

I've recently gotten back into Vanguard, mostly because Warhammer hasn't hit the shelves yet.  I've done my time with the other MMO's that are out there and dreaded coming back to Vanguard after playing it early this year.  The improvements made have been huge.  The graphics are great if you have a compy that can handle them and the bugs have been worked out.  The content is far from lacking.  I consider myself far more casual of a gamer than my boyfriend and we are both very happy with the game recently.   There's enough aspects of the game to get into and the world is big.  My only wish is that the PvP server wasn't so umm... empty.  I miss being able to make other players cry gank.

When exactly do you consider the game non-beta?  The guys that made it said they needed 3 more months prior to release a few weeks after release.

The second you start paying for the game it is no longer beta.  You may feel that it is only beta worthy but that does not mean it is beta

Dissapointing to see SOE isn't getting a fair shake imo.  They took over a doomed game to begin with and honestly I'm surprised it's even still going.

Also, the comments about it being all raid content now and Sigil intended it to be single group content.  How has the content changed that much since SOE took it over?  90% or more of the game is all still what Sigil had put together isn't it?  So how could it suddenly shift gears to all raid content just because SOE took it over?  It seems like a raiding game to me, but that doesn't mean it's SOE's fault.  The foundation was already laid by Sigil.

I played it a few months back again since launch and the lag had gotten way better than it was originally.  I could barely move or I would do stutter move.  There may still be some lag but it is much much better imo.

First of all....one giant boot to the head to all who have posted ill here regarding Vanguard.

Second of all....one giant slap a wig off your head (AoE naturally) to all who cannot recognize that this game is the fricking periodic table of Kickass.

HELLO we have a free holiday flying mount.   All the other MMOs can SUCK IT.  In order to have a personalized flying mount at your beck and call in other games would take.....um, loads of blackmarket "money" purchased by pimply, disenfranchised youths, ceaseless grouping hours (sorry, some of us have a real life), endless guild/raid crapenmucho.....and we get it for free.....HaHAH we win!

Ok, yeah, they are going to rip it from us in January much like an umbilical cord is severed 'twixt babe and mother but I care not BECAUSE THIS GAME IS AWESOME.

This is America, Baby, go play whatever game you like, but you CAN solo your way to the big leagues very easily with skill and concentration.  The attention to detail in the game is breathtaking and appreciated by me.  And as I am Empress of All I Survey I could give 2 craps about what the rest of all you want to say about my Sweet Ass Vanguard.  Sure, Vanguard could be boringly and repetitively consistent.....like any other behemoth mmo out there.....but that's playin' it safe, man, challenge yourself--fall through the world once in a while.....suffer a chunk death a day, BIG DEAL, this is America and we eat challenge for breakfast and crap it out before the sun sets.  Happy Holidays!

So free 2 play games are always in a beta stage?
