Codemaster: Fail in every p2p mmorpgs they came out with. All are now on free 2 play mode.
SOE: They suck and all but still on p2p and making millions.
Personally I think Codemaster sucks the most, every game the touch it dies. It's like SOE in a way but ppl are still willing to waste there money on it.

At least codemasters usually tries to do something different, even if it fails to deliver. They are usually honest and up front about what they are doing. Their main problem is that they refuse to make their own MMO game, they seem to be content to just modify Asian products for the western market, which usually fails for any company. I'll reserve judgement till they put out their own MMO.
SOE on the other hand has a proven track record of taking their customers for granted. Outright lying about changes they've made. I've tried a lot of SOE games and I can honestly say that I don't like any of them at all. I have no respect for the company, it's policies and procedures, it's customer service and least of all their hardcore focused games.
With PvE raiding, it has never been a question of being "good enough". I play games to have fun, not to be a simpering toady sitting through hour after hour of mind numbing boredom and fawning over a guild master in the hopes that he will condescend to reward me with shiny bits of loot. But in games where those people get the highest progression, anyone who doesn't do that will just be a moving target for them and I'll be damned if I'm going to pay money for the privilege. - Neanderthal
I cannot answer because i have no idea who Codemaster is, and i have no problem at all with SOE.
Poll says it all SOE all the way
MMO wish list:
-Changeable worlds
-Solid non level based game
-Sharks with lasers attached to their heads
Mussolini v. Hitler... Both rotten to the core, just one's atrocities are much further reaching and extreme than the other's.
edit: ok, maybe a little extreme but gets my point across.
... - ..-. ..-
SoE are just scum.
I don't know. Are we talking about business ethics or competence?
D.
I still like Codemasters for:
Micro Machines
Colin McRae
and their best game ever.... "Rock Star Ate My Hampster" <true game look it up
Id say both
personally i dont think codemasters is a bad company at all and like another poster said most of their MMOs are from asia and asian games dont go well in western part. The game they are succseddful with at the moment is LOTRO in my own opinion and thats a western MMO they seem to be doing good from what i hear
codemasters has nothing to do with the success of lotro, turbine created it
they sucssesfuly published it didnt they? they host the european servers..
Codemasters isn't even close to being in the leage SoE is.
SoE is known for cheating on their customers.
-Using the same rate for a euro VS a dollar, they keep the 'change'
-Canceling an account but still have it open and they continue to charge you unless you call up your bank (everquest and Vanguard)
-Once a game is launched, dropping all support for it, just releasing expansions so they make $
-Hiring the CEO of IGE (biggest plat selling company)
-Going abord with this www.livegamer.com company to enable in game trading for RL cash
The list goes on. SoE wins hands down for the suckiest company.
I never liked SOE since they basically killed off infantry and cosmic rift in 2002.
-Azure Prower

imo. Codemasters should win this
It took em more than 5 months before they stopped drawing cash from my CC after i stopped playing rfo.
The payment cancalation was allways pending. Had my bank to cancel it.. they still withdraw cash. However it stopped as soon as the bank did a full chargeback. Includeing some of the months i did play the game. Anyways they thretned me with sueing me and the bank. Never heard from em after the bank wrote back to em. But its a griefing company.
Now their games is F2P. But many of the items in their ingame shops dosnt work. at all or dosnt work as inteded.
They know about these items. Yet they dont stop ppl from buying em. And when ppl complain they tell you to write to blackhole@codemasters.com (something like that, you get the point) .
You will never see your cash going back to your account. They just take em from ya and leave a msg. Thank you for purchasing this useless item, have a nice day moaning"
The thing is that a lot of these games have more to say positive then negative that are on your list (I don't care for EA).
Blizzard has had a fairly positive record with online play. Battle net was typically way above average and they were very good about half maintaining games they didn't receive additional income for (Diablo II saw my changes long, long, long after release). World of Warcraft had an incredibly long Open Beta. We can gripe about the death of open pvp and nerfing everything but to be fair it only ever affected pvp slightly. Anything after first two years or expansion pack I will shake my head and sigh to, but they haven't killed WoW. We just got tired of playing it for so long.
Mythic can be criticized for their very bad balancing of classes DAOC and their last expansion pack. They are leading the market for how a gaming company should interact with their fan base and share information in betas. That is an amazing plus in my book (Who knew you could love an very excited glasses man so much?).
I don't have many gripes about NCSoft. They do things their way and always have. City of Heroes/Villains is rolling pretty smoothly lately and other than the occasional messing things up trying to make them better (not game changing...changes but patches for live events, etc) I like the updates they do. The game has come a long way. I think their auto assault game is dying/dead but I don't know anything about it. Guild Wars is pretty nice. Lineage II however, can be finger wagged for the massive botting that is allowed. Many accuse them of being in bed with the botters/farmers. Other than player abuse in the game, I don't think there is too much to say about it. Asians love it. Tabula Rasa isn't that bad of a game and from the changes they are making it is shaping up very nicely. When the PAU's get implemented, it will be killer. The bad thing about it is a lot of skills are still broken and there is a lack of skills. All the tier 4 skills are horrible in most people's opinions, but its less than a month after release and they just did a major tweak for one class.
Sony is a company that had achievements that they have since destroyed. Back in the day they had the original Everquest. Those were glory days. It went downhill more after each expansion pack I think. People moved on more than it died although I can't back that statement up. Infantry/Tanarus/Cosmic Rift were wonderful until they were made P2P. That was a business decision that I understand but still angry about them killing one of my favorite games x.x. SWG, never played but I am sorry for your losses? Everquest 2, nothing special, nothing bad, rocky start. They rescued vanguard, but its not anywhere near brag worthy yet, if ever. They do a lot of things that pisses off some of their player basis pretty often it seems like.
CodeMasters is a small company on the MMO market. They dabble more in single player games. They have archlord and rf online. A good amount of people like RF online for the pvp. Archlord is one of those things people wished for, got, and kinda didn't live up to what they wanted but close enough that a small group took it. Besides billing issues previously mentioned, I haven't heard a lot of bad rep from this company.
EA Games...mmh. They are a beast for publishing single player games. They have hellgate and WAR coming up but purely publishing. I'm not aware of any games they run themselves. They seem to just label stuff and sell it and use the profits to buy gaming studios then rinse and repeat the process. I suppose you could get mad at them for that but thats a philosophical discussion not a bad gaming company
In summation, Sony seems like the worst company in my opinion. They often do the wrong thing and times when they look like they are doing the right thing they do it in a way that makes it the wrong thing (rewarding loyal players by transfering their characters to another server.....but wait, done behind the shadows and against stated policy hehe)
Well last time I checked I can't find any proof of either company "sucking" or involved in any "sucking" practices anywhere. So I cannot comment on their ability to "suck". Business-wise, I would have to assume that SOE is performing better than codemasters financially. If I had to choose who has the best game catalog I would have to say SOE currently, but in the near future I think Codemasters will have more games that I prefer. Op name one company that has 100% approval ratings from every customer.
Voice your opinion in a way they understand, with money. Don't like - Don't buy from.
MMO Vet since AOL Neverwinter Nights circa 1992. My MMO beat up your MMO. =S
Oh? I beg to differ.
Which of this two companies sucks the most.
Replace "this" with "these". I vote SOE, codemasters are pretty good in my opinion.
Man, all this kids jumping on the SOE SUCKS bandwagon, when most of the NGE for SWG was lucas art's fault in the first place.
Codemasters is horrid though.
I don't consider SWG to be their only flop. I played EQ and they had plenty of problem with not only customer service, but there was plenty of antognism between Brad McQuaid and friends against forum posters that disliked certain aspects of EQ, like the raid focus or just the hardcore bent of the entire game. VGSoH would certainly be considered another titanic flop. Matrix Online is right up there, While EQ2 has certainly improved, it's still shunned by the majority of the gaming community.
- Neanderthal
probably because most people dont know who codemasters is, because they make crap asian mmo's. i have no problem with SOE, but i do not like codemasters. so your poll is sort of biased, since probably 15 times more people know who SOE is. (and people like to complain)
Personally I would say both companys are ok but not perfect. I would swing more towards Code Masters as been the better half for keeping there servers up even when the game has switched to f2p. But then again SOE have the station pass to allow multiple games to be played so it is a hard choice. But I will not say either of them sucks because like all companys they have there good points and there bad points.

I like Star Wars, but I was never and am still not a big Star Wars, fan. I did play SWG, and to me every state of SWG, preCU, pre this.. pre that and NGE, and after was one big flop from the first conceptual drawing. The only real thing that keeps SWG, alive is the SW fans obviously. I would have to say that the MMO game design plan is to blame for the failure of SWG, and SOE+LA, are the architects that built that games failure. Failure on a title this culturally sensitive is destined for ridicule, condemnation and criticism, no matter what you do to make it better. I don't really have any built up anger or self afflicted rage against SOE, so I can't say they suck either.
Codemasters, I have only played 1 or 2 of their games and on each of those games I lost interest and became extremely bored or frustrated with. I still don't think that Codemasters sucks, they just haven't been rounded up into the heard of the mainstream cash cows of the American market yet.
I think SOE is a pretty great company, actually. The problem with them may be that they take on too many projects. In any case, I don't know if there was any way to live up to the hype of doing a Star Wars mmo back when Star Wars Galaxies was released. SOE tried to make a great game and they simply failed at it. At some point, I think every company more or less develops something that fails. Galaxies was broken before the whole NGE thing. The fact is, the game just was never very good.
However, I'm not going to base my opinion on SOE over one game. The fact is, that more often than not, SOE comes through with fun and enjoyable games. Everquest and Everquest 2 are two great examples of this. I also think that Planetside is a pretty good game. SOE happens to purchase games that have potential to be very good but weren't built ground-up from SOE. Two examples of this are The Matrix Online and Vanguard: Saga of Heroes.
Bottom line, I think there are far worse companies out there than SOE and it's a shame that one game has enraged so many people.
SOE by far. Any company who considers their paying customers as expendable does not deserve customers at all.
Just some thoughts
