I've heard good things about this game, and it seems alright. Im installing the free trial now, but I'd like to know what people think about it. I also heard that its the type of game that I would be too far behind to really start now. Which seems off to me.

It seems like it could be a great game if you have the patience to learn. It's a rather complicated game and not an easy game, like WoW, that you can breeze through in a month. I tried EVE a while ago and it just wasn't for me. I don't like games that take you years to accomplish anything.

EVE online is a very boring game that takes ages to get anything done. I took the Free Trial and it took me approx. 40 minutes to find and begin to mine an Asteroid, finding one shortly before it disappeared from another player mining all of the ore out of it.

And don't EVEn get me started on actually making anything out of the ore.

I've been playing Eve for almost 4 years now, and, as a general rule, if, u plan to try and learn ALL the ship types, all the industrial/science and other skill trees, then, you'll find yourself way behind, BUT, if you specialize, say one version of frigate, or, try for a special in a cruiser class, then, it will take roughly a year to get to the spot where you a very profficent with the class ur in, frigates, roughly 6-7 months.

You don't really need to go hardcore and try for the capital ships either, especially when they are limited to the low sectors to 0.0 sectors of space only.

As for mining, if you get with a good group of miners, you can make a good amount of isk, even if your starting out.

Played Eve for a few months and it is quite a good, complex MMORGP with alot of depth. However its all for nothing because it has an extremely harsch death penalty. At high levels, or rather high SP level, it is not uncommong to lose several hours of game play in one death.

There is an insurance system but dying will cost you the insurance cost, all your modules and time spent finding a new ship and refitting it. And this can amount to several hours for ONE death.

I`d recommend reading the countless threads about exactly the same topic in the eve-forum here on mmorpg.
