Interesting... how do you know it's not fun at the moment?

At the Moment:  Meaning in its current state.  So you've apparently played since its latest  release?  If so, why?  I thought you hated this game?  If you do, why do you continue to sign up every now and then.  Just to see if it got any better?  Then you must be interested in playing the game if you sign up every now and then.  If you are interested then why continue to be banned on these forums, and then sign up with a different name to continue to post negative comments?

Or maybe you must have X-Men Super powers and you just know just be reading the latest patch notes that it's not fun at the moment?

Or do you know it's not fun at the moment because you have lots of close friends who play and they tell you it's not fun at the moment?  Then it's hearsay and your statement holds as much water as granny in the tub.

    You've mistaken me for beatbox.

I was never banned on this forum or WW2OL forum, nor my post were even edited. Also i don't hate the game.

Not fun ATM, means not fun for me at this present moment. It is fun for thousands of other people. So please stop creating a strawman.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Straw_man

Edit: Why i keep resubbing? That was actually a very good question.  I was asking it myself lately.

    1. I like sims and wargames. And WW2OL is good in that department.

    2. I like teambased PvP. Again it's good in that department.

    3. I'am a powergamer, so i sually get burn out pretty fast in "casual" MMOs. So when i bored i resub to WW2OL.

So what is bad you may ask? Drastic changes in gamemechanics which gives unfair advantage to one side.

As developers don't have time and money to balance and test the changes thoroughly they usually balance and adjust them on live servers.

It's like swings. Allies are the "underdog", change of the game - Axis is the "underdog". So if you ride the swing in right direction, game is fun. Other way around - not so.

It is "WWII Online: Battleground Europe", not Battlefield. All players around the world is on the same server.

Hello - Ive got a question. How can I check the number of players online ? Is it possible to get this info somehow. I only see those icons representing planes, infantry etc. on the game`s home page. I would  like to know how many peaple play this game before I register.

    thanks

No one knows the total online and for the next few days they are split between the game and beta server. Since it iis free for 2 weeks why not give it a try anyway and see if you have fun. You wil find big enough fights.

  • ShinerBochShinerBoch Member Posts: 20

No real way to tell you that.  I will tell you that a while ago there was a single battle that involved ~400 people at Roermond.  If you go to kfsone.wordpress.com you can find videos for it by searching for Roermond.

Right now though, it seems like the server's kind of bare.  Currently we're running an open beta for 1.28 so our population is split between the beta server and the live server.

Yes, I know I mispelled Shiner Bock. Don't blame me, blame society.

    Hi,

I have question about PC specs...

    I have:

    Intel Core 2 Duo E4500 (2.2 Ghz)

    2 GB 800Mhz DDR2 Ram

    Geforce 8600GT 256 MB

    1 Mbit DSL

Is it enough to run at a decent fps without lag?

    thx in advance

    Manohun

  • SparreSparre Member Posts: 257

That sounds like an ok machine. In the lower end but not bad.

It depends what you will do in-game if you will lag or not. If you fly on the deck over a town with a decent fight might you lag. However, if you are on the ground as an tank or infantry in the said city will you proberbly not lag.

And this if you don't have turned on everthing, because then will you definitely lag.

The experienced players have turned off as much as possible. Effects will slow you down, and it is a bloody war out there. So keep your head down and listen to the sergeant or any other experience soldier and you will be ok sport.

Btw, the open beta is awesome. Sure, it has a number of issues yet, which the Rats has repeated several times since release; it isn't baked yet. But it will r0xx0r when it has gone through the beta-process.

3 nights ago St. Truden was the scene of an absolutely awesome firefight.  I spawned into the ab, as everything else was allied controlled.  Infantry only fighting from the walls of the armybase, constant strafing/bombing from the RAF.  I did what i could to keep our mortars supplied, and slowly we worked our way out from the AB, smoking tanks with mortars for sappers and such.

Eventually we had them pushed to the outskirts of town, when they came again heavy, there were something like 15-20 rifles going off every few seconds during a 250m gunfight burm to burm with a large field inbetween both forces.

It reminded me of namur from release(i think its namur with the huge cliff where everyone used to fight), only with infantry instead of everyone in tanks.

That's more than enough to run the game.

But you could benefit from having a bit more system and video RAM. This game just eats it up.

    Jigen,

WW2OL graphic is not as good-looking as any other MMO games out there, but consider that the viewable distance is 2 kilometer for infantry, and probably 5 to 8 km if you going up and down the hill. Such viewing distance is unmatchable by (e.g.) BF2, Tabula Rasa, Planetside, or you name it.

Most of FPS games today have probably 400 meter viewable distance, and if you reprogram those games to 2 km viewable distance, I think they will lag more than WW2OL.

This game is real life "hardcore" combat simulation rather than a game, so it is so different than any other cookie-cutter FPS out there, and newcomeer mostly not get used to it.

I do agree that this game has loads of bug still need to be fixed, but since this is not a "mainstream" FPS game, so not many subscribers, and the developers are working hard to bring the game to a better place. Consider their resource and output, I would NOT be blame anything for still poor graphic and lag, but I certainly want to see major improvement.

This game is for real hardcore shooting fans, so you are encouraged to give it a try to see if it fits your style. And you really need to join a squad and have veterans to teach you about the game because it doesn't have any ingame tutorial, and that's a lot to learn.

For noobs, you could die without see anything and that will get you frustrated easily, so you need a lot of help early on to understand the game.

Flight also has cloaking, even more often when a large battle happens, I think 24 bombers is a tad of an exaggeration for an ordinary raid, the most I have seen during prime time on the weekend were about 12/13 with perhaps 4 fighters in escort, and that was back before most of the player base became alienated by CRSes lack luster development routine. The naval aspect of the game consists of sitting in a patrol boat, waiting to be bombed or hit by a large AT weapon.. hoping to get a kill so that after a few months you can drive the poorly rendered, extremely vulnerable destroyer model, and thats where it ends.. apparently destroyers were the largest ships featured in WW2. This one is going nowhere fast because of an absolutely cheap skate community that refuses to update their antiquated equipment to be on par with modern mmorpgs, and a tiny subscriber base that cannot really pay for any large updates to this title. I played on release when the server went down every other 15 mins from a crash or for an "update" I wanted this game to succeed quite badly, stayed subbed for over a year out of loyalty.. stay away, it was a good idea, but awful execution and early release for this one.. it just came out of a true beta state a few years ago. Toughest PVP, get lucky or die because of our glitchy graphics and cloaking models that spasm 10/20 yards at a time. And spare me any tripe about my PC, I can run COD4 and even Tabula Rasa with little to no lag.. this game is like a gigantic roach motel, that just wont close.

Do you have a list of websites with good videos, tips or training manuals?  I've found a few, but I'm still looking for a good site about flying.  But really, any and every link you could give me would be greatly appriciated.

I just built a new pc

    went from

    oldpc

    dell 8200

    xp home 32 bit

    p4 2.56 32 bit

    512 rambus ram

    bfg 6800 oc 128

    250 watt ps

    to new pc

    Vista home prem 64 bit

    q6600 quadcore 2.4 64bit

    evga 680i (A1)

    4mb x2 twin CA

    8800 gts (sc)

    1200 watt PS

    9 hundred case

So id imagine i could turn everything up?

How does the game handle 64 bit vista? How about quadcores?

Has the newer changes addressed the security issues with people turning on god mode and going under the map etc?

    Have they added mouse support?

If not what controller would be recommended for flying?

To fly in WWIIOL is too complicated to be handled by a mouse. You wont fly an airplane with a mouse, wont you.

I suck as a pilot, but I would still recommend any HOTAS plus pedals to get out max from flying.

Same with controlling most vehicles, from a truck, a AA-gun, to a tank, to a boat. You need a stick from them too. You can use a mouse and keyboard, but you will be very ineffective. To use a AA-gun without a stick is very difficult in my opinion.

Infantry is in my opinion best played with a mouse and keyboard.

And no, since august 2002 have I never heard of anyone who was able go under the map/world. Some clipping issues has existed when people have been inside a building when it collapsed, and from under a collapsed building keept firing. This is now fixed too. All players that is inside a building that collaps dies. Even if the building collapses from friendly fire. Every one inside the building dies.

I saw this happen yesterday when a guy was inside a Dock building and it took friendly fire. This reckless sport died when he stod in the doorway when the Dock collapsed.

i should think so. With a similar, though not quite so bad ass set up, I regularly get 60 - 120 fps, more than playable.

How does the game handle 64 bit vista? How about quadcores?

There are some issues with Vista, like not being able to easily find screen shots, but I haven't seen anything on our Vista machines that causes play issues, 60 or 32 bit.

Quad core is pretty redundant. Very few (read none that I know of) games are benefiting from quad core technology. Most games don't have enough threading to really warrant dual cores on their own. The benefir comes from being able to devote one core to the game processes, another to some threading possuible and having any non dgame resources have access to an un maxxed core. You should be fine with that set up.

Has the newer changes addressed the security issues with people turning on god mode and going under the map etc?

No one but devs really have those abilities. The obsfucation we have pretty much eliminates the ability for most cheating. Sometimes you can get into something (clipping) but it is a bigger problem in the minds of players than ion real life. Most of the time when I go to look into a clipping report it turns out to be a sneaky bastard who killed you from someplace you weren't looking. There are some clipping incidentes but a quick bump generally sends them back into the kill zone.

    Have they added mouse support?

The keymapper is fully configurable. You can set it up to do anything with the mouse you can with a joystick.

If not what controller would be recommended for flying?

Still I'd recommend a joystick. Nothing fancy required. We use Saitek base models most of the time. A game pad with analog controls is also a good choice.

Hrmm ok, yea if  remember right spoon had some  key mapping for mouse, i haven't played in some time so i was just curious to see if any modern changes have happened in this time.

Yea as to the security issues, i was refuring to this stuff in these vids.. though i read that the  hit boxes on the tanks have changed. So im guessing i shouldnt get lose all my passangers and driver to headshots due to a rifleman. Thats a good thing, that use to piss me off to no end.

Would an Xbox 360 controller work out for flying?

    Under the map.

Just wanted to post that im  not tring to be a prick by posting those vids, they are just proof of the issues  ive stated above and have experienced that angered me enough to quit.

I am atm listening to the new patch audio notes, and will most likely resub tonight, or as soon as i find out if i can fly with a 360 XBox controller.

Congrats on the china thing, that could be very big.

    Edited to add/////

Ive downloaded the game and have tested my 360 controller.... Feels like flying in the bf series!!

I was flying with a mouse and an old thrustmaster profox controller before. The XBox 360 controller is worlds better then the thrustmaster. A bit more tweeking and moving the aileron controls to comfortable positions. And i should be able to fly comfortably. Flying skill is another matter.. But thats what offline is good for.

Ive downloaded spoons mouse/keyboard settings for tanking and ATguns etc, the xbox controller has too much play room to be pin point accurate as my sidewinder mouse. So... im resubbing now hopefully  the old players i use to play with are still around.

BTW the audio QA was very informative ty.

Is there any way I can get a trial if I've done one in the past? I have a better computer and more patience these days. The first time around I never really gave the game a chance, but now I'm craving something this style. I've been playing Red Orchestra and having flashbacks from when I still enjoyed Planetside. I've also only got the one credit card so I can't just do a trial on a new account.

    Couple gameplay questions aswell:

As a tanker how are views done? Red Orchestra lets you switch between looking through the slit or popped out the hatch, where you have a restrictive view from the slit but are vulnerable. Do they have something like this in WW2O or do they just have 3rd person view and such?

Also for tanks, does it require multiple crew?

How spread out do the players tend to be as far as tankers to pilots to infantry? Are there too many or too few in any one of them? I too like to play the less tread path like one of the others in this thread.
