Imo, WoW and Lotro are exactly the same game, WoW just has more content.

    Go for WOW.

Sorry, can't vote in your poll as they are different games. Sure some of the mechanics are similar and perhaps some interface items, but they are different.

LOTRO is based in the lord of the rings world. It is less flashier than WoW (more sublime) and makes every attempt to be as true to the books/lore as possible.

WoW is based on the game maker's own mythology, it is very stylized and "fantasical" when it comes to classes and just plain design of everything. Both are very casual friendly. WoW also has far more players.

It really is a preference choice. WoW has more raids if that is what you are looking for.

Like Skyrim? Need more content? Try my Skyrim mod "Godfred's Tomb."

Well I have played both and I enjoy WoW more even though I am a huge LOTR fan.  LOTR's is just not as smooth as WoW, and the instances are not as fun.

Both games can be casually played but I think WoW would suit you better as in LOTR many of the storyline quests that you need to finish to continue with the story mode are group quests.

And I have a decent system that can run WoW full tilt with no problems but I had many issues with LOTR it is a system heavy game.

As far as not getting booted from a guild because you don't play much that all depends on what kind of guild you get into, there are plenty that would not boot you for being casual.

I know WoW has free trials I would suggest checking it out, not sure about LOTR.

IMO WoW would be the better choice, iv played LoTRo and i didnt much like it, just my opinion. Although i'm not longer playing WoW as my primary MMO i still log on from time to time and have a go at pvp and run around checking out new content, i find it easy to play and more importantly easy to put down. as for a guild you can stay in without getting kicked i think you'll find them both on either game, although you might have to spend some time looking for one that doesent have an over zelouse GM that looks over the 'last played' times ever day

    Ok ...

and now time for some real advice

    LOTRO

Pros: Mature community , great graphic (and optimised) , roleplay, solo friendly but also many quests that require group (good balance) , very casual friendly, orginal RVR, almost no raiding, regular new content

Cons: boring combat , smaller world, restrained by tolkien lore

    WOW

Pros:Fun gameplay , lots of people playing, big world, lots of content

Cons: Average player age 12 , probably the worst community in p2p mmos , really dated graphic , old game - most of people are at top level , game based on forced raiding

    So ...

both have something good and something bad

You can not go wrong with either

I no longer player either LotR or WoW, but I considered WoW to be a much better game and more fun. LotR is so forced and linear and overall predictable that I hated it.

Can you obtain a trial and give both a try?

Believe it or not, if you like WoW or LotR you might like EQ 2 more.  At least i did.  I need more challenge, more openness and danger in my world, though.

EQ2 is not all that more open then WoW or LoTRO. In EQ2 once you run out of solo quests and group quests ( of which there are many ) you are stuck raiding or craft grinding. PVP in EQ2 is a total joke thus not even worth mentioning. Not to mention the huge amount of instancing found in that game. That is what really killed it for me in the end.

Err you people did realize that the OP mentioned "casual"?

Of all mentioned games EQ2 ist the least casual game and in WoW you won't have fun as a casual once you hit 70 (and don't want to spend your time fishing, which is probably the only activity that's not based on equipment)

If you need a casual MMO, then Lotro is the only viable game to go that I know of. Admittedly it plays a lot like WoW but its by far slower and way less addictive. If you're a powergamer who only plays to improve the character further then of course you will run out of options in lotro pretty fast but then if you want raids only every few weeks or months and not nearly daily, I don't know a game other than lotro that works this way.

In WoW you will NEED to be available at a fixed schedule of at least two days a week for some hours  ;)

Either Wow or Lotro can be fun casual...The most casual friendly game I have played would be CoH/CoV though.

WoW is still the best. If you are roleplayer or love Middle Earth, then Lotro might be good for you. But as a game, WoW is simply more fun than Lotro is.

And if you try out WoW, no need to worry about raiding. You can play the game for hundreds of hours before you even could raid, and have fun. It's worth it.
