Arent all MMORPGs like that? Let see what else makes it different
- Fast action
- You can concentrate on the target instead of watching health bars and skills and clicking
- Fast travel
- Casual & solo friendly
- Minimal grind
- Kill bonus
- XP multiplier for a killing streak
- Cover actually effecting how much damage you take
- Inverse skill tree - so instead of starting as your final class - everyone starts as recruit then specializes from there
- Cloning
- tactics make a difference so you can rush in with a shotgun, snipe from atop a hill, inside a tower or bunker
- Capturable bases
Agreed on the action, the tactics and the cover... it's mildly fun and can eventually result in tactical team-work. Too bad they don't encourage it, and there's no actual reason to do it... besides other players rush it all.
Concentrate on target ? You must be joking, when you shoot at a bane you obviously stare at its shield/energy bar sliding down.... naturally.
To the OP you're confusing us with someone that gives a s*** what you think, i like many others see it for what it and many other games out there are as FUN.

Who are you? Advocate of the casual-mmorpg players united? The whole point of this post is of course that it is NOT fun to play an MMORPG where you cant really affect anything.
If you like pretending that you are helping the war effort by doing repeatable quests and taking over the same control point for the zillionth time then go right ahead. Im not stopping you.

Damn Yamota, spamming TR forums is definetly what you do best? Quit wasting your time on the TR forums and find a online game to play. One that you will enjoy and posts helpful hints and strategies for instead of bashing a game you dont even have on your system anymore. Ok, I can respect venting since you had hi hopes for this game, but man, its a fricken mmo, they are plenty other mmo to try and like. And we get the picture, you dont like TR, nuff said. There is a group of trolls hitting this forum hard that have nothing better to do expect piss all over TR and its player base cause they dont like the game.
These damn forums are getting pretty pathetic when you got a bunch of TR bashers (and man I can name 4 trolls that come to mind so easy) cause they got nothing better to do. Its nothing personal, but arent we just taking this a little too far.
Move on and try something different if this game digusts you.
Oh yeah Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays by the way

Not on my system? My free month isnt over yet so its still on my server and Im still playing it. Like I said, its a fun single player game.
Furthermore how is criticizing a game " piss all over TR and its player base ". This isnt the official forums you know, where only fanboys can post, praising how good the game is.

Apparently you got some love, hate relationship going on with TR and I will leave it at that. Just like some veterans from SWG as well, so I can relate.
And you know that TR doesnt have a official forum. Just making sure you know this.

So, why isn't that happening? I don't see much about actual hints and helps on this message board. All I see is a long list of fanboi headlines, touchy defensiveness and what sounds like paid advertising and press releases...
Don't dare criticize this game!
Golly Gee, I love this game--
Tried it, love it!
Looks downright FAKE.
This is a very active forum, but not much discussion of specific gameplay is here. Only a squad of posters ready to jump and whine if a critical word is said.
The other fan blog/forums are practically dead. The servers are slower every day. There should be another uptick in playing after Christmas--
And the fact that there is no official forum, as you oddly remind us, is a very interesting thing. Why isn't there one?
Until you spread your wings, you have no idea how far you can walk.

Here is some info..
Conspicuously absent though are official forums. The reason? The TR crew feels that official forums aren't conducive to a community atmosphere, because people's posting habits tend towards the dogmatic when they think there's a developer listening. Most people have had to endure the pain and self-loathing involved in browsing official forums before, so we know the behavior they're talking about. Still, it seems like a questionable decision to eliminate what is typically the primary conduit for communication between developers and players. Guess we'll just have to wait and see how it works out.

Neither have love or hate for this game. Mediocrity is what this game is mostly defined as. Mildly fun but nothing really exciting and that is a shame since this game has such potential if the people in charge actually had some vision greater than your run of the mill WoW clone.
As for official forums, I never visit such places because they are usually infested with rabid fanboys.

i've been thinking about the same thing....
i was in the beta and had high hopes for the game, at launch i didn't feel it was worth activating my free copy i got, ichose to wait for content and bug fixes. i still read the forums here and on other sites (well did read other sites, but there isn't much anymore) on a weekly basis, waiting for a change. so far no one has done more than flame ppl who didn't like the game or say "they've fixed alot of things" and produce no real evidence.
it's pretty much to the point i think ncsoft didn't put up their own boards so they could use the money to pay ppl to troll sites like this and give thumbs up to it.
you ask some good questions and got some crap and crappy answers, sorry to say it but the company doesn't realy seem to suport the game and the players seem to be about as helpful. i commend on keeping your cool

I disagree with pretty much everything in both of these posts, except that the game SHOULD have Official Forums.
The fansites aren't "dead". at least not PlanetTR, TenTonHammer, TR Stratics, etc.
neither are the servers. no, they don't have 29473859634857349856345979356 players like WoW Does, but they aren't exactly hurting for players just yet.
the Game hasn't even had its first major Update yet, that comes in January. They've dropped minor patches into the game every two weeks since launch and will continue to do so according to their Devs, with major Updates i think what, every 2 months, starting in January. So how can you say that NCSoft isn't supporting the game?
The Players I've seen have been nothing but mature and helpful, except in the General Channel ingame and on this site.
so you don't like so-called "Fanboi Headlines" of "Paid Advertisement"? on the first page here, I see:
"What's so Special?"
"played 3 day trial, are you kidding me?"
"Zero Punctuation 100% Ownage"
"Solid Proof that TR is Weaksauce"
"Enough with the Testimonials"
why don't any of you complain about those? oh, yeah, cause you aren't actually supposed to LIKE any games, right? if you DON'T like a game and you bash it, then it is "legit criticism", but if you actually *like* a game(what a novel concept) and you post about it, it is "paid advertisement"? double-standard much?
why aren't helpful hints and strategies being posted here? because none of you are interested in them. that's why. You are more interested in trying to convince everyone that reads the site that TR is the worst MMO ever created than actually learning about the game. any constructive thread here turns into a "TR Sucks" thread, for the most part, by all the usual suspects.
why is it, when someone claims to enjoy a Game on this site, it "looks downright fake" and everyone screams "Paid Shill! Paid Advertisement!", but when someone spends countless posts hijacking every thread they can find and/or posting countless of their own threads about how much the game sucks, everyone says "oh great Post Man, I agree", very few people question it, and the 1 or 2 people who DO question it are automatically labeled "company employees"? Would it be realistic of me to say that all you TR Bashers are paid employees of other games? I don't think so. so what's the deal? and this isn't exclusive to the TR boards either. it happens on the boards for the other games as well.
Because this is MMORPG.com, where apparently, if looking at most of the Game Forums, everyone is supposed to hate MMORPGs. and if you actually like one....then you don't REALLY like it, you only say you do because you are a Paid Shill Employee of the Company that makes it.
there will never be a game that does not have quests that are repeatable, where once you do a mission it goes away forever and the result of the quest is permanently scarred onto the game for everybody, and nobody else can do it, where once you kill a Boss, he is dead forever. It just is not possible...
MMORPGs have ALWAYS been like this, it did not just start with WoW, contrary to popular belief. EQ was like this. AO was. DAoC Was. Shadowbane Was. City of Heroes was.Asheron's Call was.
Umm... not true.
In the first year or so, Asheron's Call is the only game that I know of that actually had monthly updates... not nerf sessions, butMONTHLY UPDATES.
One of the things that most of the monthly updates included was a single event mission that was beaten by a specific character or fellowship or even a Monarchy. Once beaten it was 'sort of' available to others, but the game was forever changed by the choices made by that first group.
Individual items also came in to the game in this way, such as Nexus Armor. Only one person per server that first figured out the quests completed the event had these items.
These are some of the reasons that those handful of us that played Asheron's Call in 1999 have never fully recovered from the experience and can not tolerate these crappy games that have failed to even live up to AC's 15 year old code.
Now... if this could be done in a game launched almost a decade ago, why does this crappy Tabula Rasa game seem like something from Atari in its console shooter motif?
"The reality of the poor in America isn't the difference between The Haves and The Have Nots, it is the difference between The Haves and The Have Lots."

Well said. I couldn't have added anything to make it better.

eh. interesting that you took issue with me mentioning Asheron's Call.
seems to me,from reading your post history, that if it isn't Asheron's Call or exactly like it, then it is a terrible crapfest. yes?

Could it be because Asherons Call was very different from other MMORPGS? It had a skill based system but you had a level indicator which basically was a metre for how much exp you got, no other weird modifications. Also it had a combat that was part character skill based and player skill based.
Couple these two together and you had an MMORPG where a level 50 skilled/prepared player could kill a level 100 unskilled/unprepared player. What other MMORPG can claim that?
Also the combat was an FPS/MMORPG hybrid. Which meant you could jump on top of buildings and that some of your attacks, such as some spells and arrows required for them to acually connect with your target, opening up a whole new dimension of combat never seen and havent been seen again in MMORPGs. It was truly a brilliant MMORPG.
However, it was hard to master which probably scared away the typical casual MMORPG player you have out there. Also it didnt force grouping as EQ 1 did so it was labeled as anti-social.

why don't any of you complain about those? oh, yeah, cause you aren't actually supposed to LIKE any games, right? if you DON'T like a game and you bash it, then it is "legit criticism", but if you actually *like* a game(what a novel concept) and you post about it, it is "paid advertisement"? double-standard much?
why aren't helpful hints and strategies being posted here? because none of you are interested in them.
Because this is MMORPG.com, where apparently, if looking at most of the Game Forums, everyone is supposed to hate MMORPGs. and if you actually like one....then you don't REALLY like it, you only say you do because you are a Paid Shill Employee of the Company that makes it.
right?
PS - hey Garriott...where's my check?
Umm... not true.
In the first year or so, Asheron's Call is the only game that I know of that actually had monthly updates... not nerf sessions, but MONTHLY UPDATES.
"The reality of the poor in America isn't the difference between The Haves and The Have Nots, it is the difference between The Haves and The Have Lots."
i've been thinking about the same thing....
i was in the beta and had high hopes for the game, at launch i didn't feel it was worth activating my free copy i got, ichose to wait for content and bug fixes. i still read the forums here and on other sites (well did read other sites, but there isn't much anymore) on a weekly basis, waiting for a change. so far no one has done more than flame ppl who didn't like the game or say "they've fixed alot of things" and produce no real evidence.
it's pretty much to the point i think ncsoft didn't put up their own boards so they could use the money to pay ppl to troll sites like this and give thumbs up to it.
@yamota-
you ask some good questions and got some crap and crappy answers, sorry to say it but the company doesn't realy seem to suport the game and the players seem to be about as helpful. i commend on keeping your cool

Well said. I couldn't have added anything to make it better.

eh. interesting that you took issue with me mentioning Asheron's Call.seems to me,from reading your post history, that if it isn't Asheron's Call or exactly like it, then it is a terrible crapfest. yes?
Just do what the EvE fanbase did when he used to troll in EvE's forums....IGNOR him.
basically his complaints here sound very funny when you compare them to the EvE based rants he made before.
