This is by far the biggest concern I have about this game.
I don't care so much about the total player population, but the server population vs landmass size. Even with heavily populated servers relative to most games, it would not be good to have people unfathomably spread out because of the landmass size.
Are groups easily made? Will I encounter others?
Where are some places people congregate?

Most of the time, you can find a group without problems, above all with higher lvl.
But there is no general meeting place in the game, a point I'm missing too (
Most cities have Riftway acces, Banks, Brokers, etc. There is no point for meeting in a special place.
To give an idea of congregating places, I think WoW's Ironforge or any major city for that matter. Lots of people running all over the place for this and that. Gives the game some meaning knowing that there are other people out there, even if you are not directly interacting with them.
A lot of people have come back, and some new peeps in recent weeks. The population is on the rise, it isn't the wasteland it was 2 months ago.
I keep hearin' the population is rising and all that, but it's terrible. I've never seen Khal so empty around primetime hours, and finding a group is impossible. Most of the servers are always rated "low" in population, with Seradon often goin' medium, with Xeth doing the same sometimes...but Florendyl was like that in contrast pre-mergers when populations were dropping. Seems to me people are just jumping ship still.
I also keep hearing the population is "top heavy". Well uh, that's pretty much a clear indicator of a shrinking MMO; a few folks climbing the masts with no new players on deck.
The population definitely isn't rising at any meaningful rate, if at all. I personally believe it's still shrinking. That's no surprise though, not like Vanguard is rankin' on any charts or top seller lists, and there is no free trial. It's impossible for there to be new players 'sides the occasional random box buy; and resubscribers will only resubscribe to disappointment so many times. There was only a finite amount of us original players anyway; which didn't add up to enough to keep the game healthily afloat in the first place.
I guess it's time for me to give up on this game. I've been waiting for the free trial for ages but before they got something in place WAR is out and so is Spellborn and AOC. By then the original population who would be a fantastic help to new players is most likely gone. That makes it even harder to get into the game and the drop rate will be far greater. Which means in the end; the game will die faster.
If it ain't dead you're not pressing 2 hard enough.
I just started playing, and have absolutely no trouble finding groups. I have leveled to 30 in the last few weeks without any problem. I always see people, even in the desolate chunks.
The problem is when people spam LFG in region they are not going to get a group invite. I know when I am a group leader I don't even read region chat. You need to actively seek and ask people if they want to group, or if you can join their group. Don't expect people to come looking for you. And if you can't find a group, start one, don't be lazy!
I've been playing on Xeth and the population on Kojan seems to be pretty decent. I ran into quite a few people in the starter area, and that town whos name escapes me at the moment (Konvu?) is fairly packed with people. I'm not sure how the rest of the world is, but finding other people or a group hasn't been a problem personally. I would imagine Thestra is about the same as I spawned in on a stack of people when I made my alt there. Qualia I'm not sure about. I saw one or two people at the starting area, but I haven't played anything there for very long.

I just wish they would offer a trial for the game.
I've read that recent updates have resolved the majority of the issue's people had while playing.
I remember following this game and reading about many innovative and unique idea's, but the the buggy game play paralyzed the game.
SoE release trail right meeeoooww!
well since it was reduced down to only a few servers the servers are greatly populated and i love it :-)
I will see anywhere from 5-20 different people over the course of a couple hours in the newbie area. Some are high levels passing through some new characters, some twinks. On average I will see 3-6 people crafting in Leth Nurae and the same at the exchange vendor, but not much else.
The general chat channel is lively. Sometimes with good conversation and sometimes with immature rantings.
I play on the highest population server, but I have no idea if where I'm at is the social hotbed of the land mass I'm on or if it is the deepest most remote area of the game. Honestly I am used to empty servers from playing on test realms full time so I'm not seeking out the masses yet.
There's a trial island being developed but its not finished yet.

I play on the PVP server Sartok, and I have no problems finding a group. Matter of fact, just last nite when I logged on, I was sent a group invite for a raid dungeon to complete a 6-man group and I wasn't even looking. It was the quickest invite I've gotten, ever. And I had a blast playing for hours with them, one of them, was an even KOS (kill on site) player, but when it comes to raiding players put their differences aside. Makes me every excited for APH (Ancient Port Wharehouse).
