New to eq2, few questions

LynnxLynnx Member Posts: 19

Hey guys, just redownloaded Eq2 for the first time in about a year.  Never got very far but always liked what i did play.  Now with the questions.

1.  So all new starter zones? no more island?  And you go straight to your class from the start?  I used to really like the island, how would you guys compare the new stuff to the island.  And is the island still available? because i have a character or two still on it O.o.

2.  Was the Fae expansion free?  Because i never bought it and it gave me the whole continent along with the new race.

3.  I hate the interface, what are some good mods you guys would recommend?

4.  Grouping.  I always see threads about the soloing capability.  But hows the grouping capability?   Will i get more xp by grinding in a group or doing my quests with a group?  In wow it was:  1. enter zone, collect quests.  2.  Finish all solo quests solo.  3.  Get a group for the 3-5 group quests. 4. Get a group for the instance.  5 New zone.  And the group quests are barely even worth the time.  So hows it here?

5.   Kind of an odd question, but one i never really understood.  Is this game all about max level?  Ive always heard people talking about other games and being proud at being a high level, even if it wasnt max.  In wow, its all about being 70.   Anyone under 70 and calls themselves a "wow player" is kind of a joke tbh.  So whats it like here, is it the "journey" or the "max level"?

6.  Ill probably be back with more questions i come up with soon.  but in the meantime, do you guys have any general advice for me?

Thanks a bunch guys

    1.  So all new starter zones? no more island?  And you go straight to your class from the start?  I used to really like the island, how would you guys compare the new stuff to the island.  And is the island still available? because i have a character or two still on it O.o.

The 2 original starter islands are still there if you wish to start in Qeynos (good) or Freeport (evil). But you have 3 other options open to you if you have the required expansions. Expansion 3 Echoes of Faydwer opens up the continent of Faydwer's city of Kelethin (good) and the lost underground city of Neriak (evil). You can play Fae's or Arasai's in each of these respectively. Expansion 4 Rise of Kunark opens up Gorowyn where you can play any evil class and the new lizard race the Sarnak.

Buying the current expansion will include ALL previous expansions and adventure packs.

    3.  I hate the interface, what are some good mods you guys would recommend?

I personally use Profit Reborn. I've also used Thor. both of these and others can be found at eq2interface.com I recommend the map mod too.

It varies. There are plenty of open dungeons and instances, all with quests for groups and solo. Up to level 70 all the zones offer a decent amount of variety, so if you wish to grind up fast doing quests you can. If you prefer grouping up and taking on a few dungeons or instances you can do that too. Beyond level 70 you have to go to Kunark, and the zones here are mostly quest driven. Instances are for the toons at the level cap, with only 1 or 2 open dungeons a viable option for toons in they're early 70s. Kunark is a brave experiment for SoE to try and change the way people play the game. Some like it, some don't.

Again, it varies. There is a large community across the servers that are obsessed with the endgame, and that was more obvious with the recently added 10 levels to level 80. The raidzones and endgame instances are hugely popular, and the race to get them done is quite cut-throat at times. But this type of player is in the minority. There is a much larger playerbase that isn't obsessed with the endgame, and actually take there time and roll new characters to play it all over again. I myself am a bit of both. I've got 1 toon at level 80, and 6 others varying from 20 to 60 (plus numerous others on other servers, including PvP and RP servers).

So to answer your question in short. Yes, and No. It depends on you, and the players/guilds you play with. You want to raid & play hardcore? Find one of the few hardcore guilds and see if they can accomodate you. You want to play casual and enjoy the journey? You'll find plenty of people to join you on your journey!

    6.  Ill probably be back with more questions i come up with soon.  but in the meantime, do you guys have any general advice for me?

Try out a few different classes in the newbie zones. See which one you enjoy playing the most. Everyone is different. I personally love healers, but I like to experiment with other classes too.

Find yourself a nice friendly guild who can show you the ropes.

Check out websites such as eq2.wikia.com for a comprehensive guide to all the different quests, classes, deities, etc. It's a lot to take in all at once admittedly, but just have a browse and see whats what.

Download the map mod from eq2interface.com and keep it updated regularly. It will fill your map with handy waypoints relating to quests, mobs and npc's. You can also find a lot of user interface mods at that website that can improve your gaming experience if you find the default ui not to your liking. I use Profit Reborn as it has a load of handy features such as direct links from your quest journal to the websites with the solutions!

Don't rush the game. Relax, and have fun!

Lynnx... did you come back to Eq2 using a trial account?  I may be mistaken, but I believe the trial account they offer now, is that of playing a Fae and/or at least playing in the low end side of Greater Faydark?

*edit* should rub sleep completely out of my eyes before posting...

No, renewed my old one with all my old characters.  Should i not be able to play as Fae or start in that zone without that expansion?

I really don't know what to say, I'm not sure how they implement "returns", hehe all I can say is if it was by accident enjoy it!  I was thoroughly impressed with the EoF expansion - it carries playable areas for all levels, beautiful zones, and great quest progression series (as opposed to any original content).

    Hey Folks,

Just wanted to thank the OP and especially Darthoob for all the information. Its nice that you took the time, and actually answered all my questions.

I played 6 weeks when EQ2 launched 12/12/04 and now have decided to give it a go again, I found in 04..the game wasnt too bad but at lvl 20 was a grindfest and my wife lost interest fast so ZI just kind of jumped ship, for CoH (which is a grindfest too, but less depth).

Anyways my only concern is with the UI I hate PvP when everyone has what I consider illegal UI and I am playing with vanilla, I changed mine in wow but did like too have too keep updating it, etc.

I hope EQ2 ui issues are less, but i can deal either way.

I went to buy the all in one bundle... and it says

The All-In-One Pack features the base game, 3 adventure packs, and all 4 expansion packs, including the all-new Rise of Kunark (thirty (30) days game time included for new accounts only). Enjoy a new starting zone & race and receive promotional in-game items!

So that is for someone who bought the game and this all in one at the same time? Giving them 2 free months?

I bought 2 EQ2 dvd-roms in 2004 and played them both 6 weeks, now I am buying this all in one, and my account says pending 10 day trial...why cant I get more details lol.

If your trying to use your old account, you won't get the 30 days free as outlined above. Apparently SOE have given some old inactive accounts an extended 30 days free, but not all of them. Not sure why. I guess they missed a few, or just did accounts of a certain age.

Not sure where you got the figure "2 free months" from. Nobody gets that. If you buy the RoK pack and start up a brand new account, you get 30 days free. thats it. Using this RoK pack with an old account will just grant you all the expansions, adventure packs, and /claim items that you are missing.
