Well i figured id give D&D online a try and see what it was like and i for the most part was incredibly surprised.  The graphics i thought were quite well done as well as the game play. there is so much negative propaganda out there that i was seriously shocked by this. I had heard alot of complaints about a very low max level but when i actually played it i realised that was only half the story... There are sub levels for each major level in which you gain skills also . Which changes the game dynamic alot.. I found it quite refreshing that level 2 is not something you get for meeting your tutorial npc like in most games...everything went great till about the 5th day. i mean no disrespect to the D&D online players but the community is where i ran into trouble ... basically what happened was this. I went into a tavern and got a quest when i ran out i took a wrong turn and entered a room where i was on a platform that i instantly fell off.. it was then i noticed the warning on the screen you are now in a pvp area (or something to that effect). so i went to the ladder to climb out because im a newb and pvping is pointless... i got half way up the ladder and some dude climbed down the ladder a couple steps to block me.. inevitably i fell off the ladder and got raped. Now im not at alll afraid of pvp (i played EVE for 2 years) and im not afraid to die in a game. The problem i had with this was that someone actually figured it would be a good idea to block a newb from leaving so he could kill him . i was quite taken back from this because as far as i could tell he gained nothing from the encounter... The real problem i had was that quality of gamer enhabiting the game.  i had to trust my gut and meeting someone like that the first couple days into a game kind of says something to me.  Anyway thats my story :)

I guess my only real problem is griefers having an easy job of ganking do to open pvp zones in common areas that newbs can fall pray to . Thats not pvp to me anyway .

that being said i can understand why players play that game. it is a nice looking Low lag game and pretty fun overall.

Ive had nothing but good experiences with the DDO community, seems like you found of the losers that run around in every game and attack new players. Or you just where not paying enough attention to where you were going.

Now imma take a wild stab and say you fell into the PvP area of the Wayward Lobster ( the blue lobster place) now Im not even sure if it even has a PvP area but I did go in there a little and saw a big pit and some people standing in the middle...on my way in I noticed there was a NPC standing near the door with a red and blue "swirl" could have been fighting dragons...im not sure doing this all from the brief 2sec I saw and look and turned away... but to me that completely looked like a PvP zone and I stayed out.

Now IF that really is a PvP zone *I have no clue*, id have to say they are pretty well marked if someone in 2 sec from visual cues can tell this is a place you dont want to be if your new. I guess what im getting at is that you need to pay attention a little more... now if this place is well marked and it looks like a PvP zone imma take a wild guess and say most other PvP zones are as well.

Also, yes you are new...and YES you were in a PvP area, so why get bent if you know you were in the wrong and the other guy had no clue you didnt want to pvp (you are in a PvP zone and all) ? So it may not be that the guy was a greifer or that he liked to kill newbs...maybe he just wanted to PvP? (Even if he was a prick about it)

So...really....you were in the wrong....if you follow a normal thought process. (no disrespect intended)

PS: im only on my 3rd day of the trial and loving it...nice distraction from other things and a good injection of D&D between my sunday tabletop nights.

Yes it sounds like you fell into the PvP pit at the lobster. Luckily once you get killed climb the ladder (they can't stop you anymore) rez in the tavrn, and leave the PvP pit to most of the jackholes that seem to like to populate those places. The pits in the Taverns (3 I think, The Wayward Lobster in the Harbor, The Pheonix Tavern in the Markeplace & for the life of me I cannot remmber the name of the one in House D, Hammersmith maybe?) are the only places PvP can happen.

There are no other areas with PvP so no worries about getting ganked by some 12 year old overcompensating for nature being cruel to him in his natural endowments.

Edit: No point in getting on the guy about an honest mistake, it's not that obvious when the door to the one in the Wayward Lobster is open nearly 24/7.

Yep,  you fell into one of a small handful of "open PVP" areas.  They're easily avoided once you learn a little more, and not remotely a part of the main game.  Also, you suffer no negatives from dying in PVP anyways (no exp loss, nothing).

I'm a newb in DDO . I'm a Human fighter LVL 2 rank 9 . Enjoying DDO allot . Its very addictive. Wish I had more time on my hands .

When I first started I also came across many negative coments etc about the game .... but now after playing it for a while .... its all a load of  ****** . The game is awsome . The best mmorpg I've plade to date .

I prefur this style of game where you do quests to get ep .... instead of just hunting etc to get ep .

Another thing I dont understand is why its rating on this site is so low .

Mostly because it wasn't "all that" when it came out, and people never gave it a second chance afterwards.

I played for a month or two when it first came out. It wasn't a bad game, though it definitely was not my cup of tea.

This type of post is the exact kind of jerkoff community he is talking about. He says "I am a newb who didnt know where I went" You say "Well if your as smart as me (epeen buff rank1) and know everything about a game on my 3rd day of the trail (epeen buff rank2) then this wouldnt be a problem."

Now you say the PvP area is clearly marked. Yet you also say you have no clue if its a pvp area or not your just guessing. Nice way to contradict yourself. Yup the PvP area is CLEARLY marked since you yourself ad mit you arent completely sure if it was or not.

Now if you follow a normal thought process, anyone trying to climb UP the ladder obviously does NOT want to pvp...Otherwise why would he be trying to leave the area. So through normal thinking if your looking to pvp you stay in the pit and pvp. If your an asshat you get your mate to block the ladder so people cant get out of the pit. SOOOOo by that logic, your an asshat trying to defend other asshats and the OP was right in his complaint.

Though the OP should understand there are only a handfull of retards in most MMO's (WoW excluded) and unfortunatly they usually stick to the area's they can be the biggest prick. From what others have stated this PvP pit is one of these areas.

On the bright side thanks OP you just got me to check this game out.

I admit I fell in there when I first started off in the Lobster. I heard fighting coming from the other room I went to go check it out and they were down in the pit fighting. I couldn't see well and adjusted the camera and walked a little bit to much and fell over.

It was great timing because one guy had just beat the other one and he saw me. He didn't kill me but he froze me in place several times going up the ladder. I didn't know the rules of PVP in DDO but if he killed me he wasn't going to get much as I had next to nothing being a total new player.

Welcome to MMORPGs where have you been the last decade?

    I'm just curious...

You found the PvP pit, and you said you didn't like it because of one person (which is understandable), but that you don't like PvP anyways, so why would you let one person, that you obviously won't encounter in that situation again anyways, run you away from something you enjoy? Since you know where it's at now (chances are you probably won't ever have a problem with the other pits because nobody uses them), I'd say it will easily be avoidable and you could go on to enjoy the PvE elements of the game, which is what you are looking for.

No, in DDO PvP people cannot loot you, they gain no experience for killing you in PvP (or honor, or items or anything really) nor do you loose anything in PvP. Having said that if someone continually holds you but does not finish you off, ie. via Hold Person spell, Flesh To Stone, Fascinate, ect. it is griefing and you can report them for griefing.

I have stayed away from the PvP pit since me and a realitivly lower leveled friend (think we were both around 5ish at the time) were messing around by ourselves in a corner of the pit and a 12th level Wiz decided to jump down and nuke us and then talk smack like he had done some great accomplishment.....
