Anything in FFXI for a casual solo player

stv182stv182 Member Posts: 46

Topic says it all. I played when it first came out and it was totally unfriendly to casual and solo players.

Has anything changed?

Thanks

Yea i  played a while back Im thinking about resubbing today, the class is called the Beastmaster. You can solo because you get a pet. but remember you have to get to lv 30 to unlock so find out the Beastmaster's Sub Job/ I think it is White Mage to solo. Well that's all I can think of. But it should work. I had like a lv 20 back then

yeah, you can play beastmaster and there is puppeteer now that you can also solo with.  So, there is some soloing you can do, but you will have to group a little to do it, but if you find the right people all the time.. it shouldn't be to hard to do it.  and if the people you find are right, it can be quite enjoyable

FF XI is not, and never has been, a solo-friendly game. Everytime I've come back to it, I have left because of the necessary time investment per time playing in order to accomplish anything meaningful.

If you can spend the time to get a group, it is quite fun and rewarding (if not often redundant) camping a spot and gaining experience and treasure.

Even though the new classes allow some greater flexibility in soloing, you will find many places and quests you cannot accomplish without a group -- which will likely end up being quite frustrating in the long run.

In short -- Good Group game, not so much for the solo play.

This game has one of the most mature and friendly communities out there. Imo, there's NO DOUBT about that. I've rarely seen any "stupid little kids", as you say, in this game.

Are you sure it's parties they don't understand? Sorry, but your English skills are not very good...

    OP:

If you're looking for a MMO with lots of solo options, look elsewhere. Yes, it IS possible (as beastmaster), though hard, to reach lvl 75 solo. Still, if you wanna solo, there's close to nothing else for you to do. This is not a game for solo players, it's just that simple.

There is alot soloable classes as well.

BLM/RDM is one that can solo very very well at 60+ with gravity. You will see alot blm/rdm soloing because its hard to even get a group for blm around 60+

BLM/NIN is possible to solo for 30-45 ranges as well, as i saw alot blm do this as well.

    meanwhile....

BLUEmage can also solo very well with /nin and /thf.

Ninja can always solo DECENT or duoe or trio IT++ at any level.

The new DNC classes have great soloability too if you are skillful. (i can solo Ts @ 50 with no problem, just take forever to kill...)

PUP need to kill monster's pet. and can solo decent until 40s..

BST can solo but its a pain of a grind to me.

Many classes can actually solo DC at all level range, but most people simply don't want to risk it and it usually take long to kill. i mean a group can kill one IT that give 200 xp within 30 sec. while it take you 3 min solo one for 100 xp (let's say its EM). I am sure you see what i am talking about. (avg party leveling is 2-3 hour for 60 less and 3-5 hour 60+ ...not pulling facts from the air... i have many 75 XD)

Any soloing in this game will give you the feeling of "grinding" as it take twice or three time the time to kill per mob with a party.

    none

No, there's NOT "alot soloable classes". Well, everyone can solo at lvl 1...

"Many classes" can NOT solo DC at "all level range". If your facts are not pulled from the air, then I don't know where they're pulled from. Because they are not facts.

    wrongfei...

I've read many of your posts on this game's forums here and it's clear you're a very enthusiastic player of FFXI. I have been for quite a while, too - since NA PC launch over 4 years ago now. I finally decided to put the game down, not because of any dislike of the game - I love FFXI and still feel it's the best MMO I've ever played, even though I don't play it anymore (thanks to the community at large and their insistance on dumbing it down more and more all the time to a mere grindfest - but that's my personal gripe)

Though I know you like to point out the possibilities in the game, I think you put a positive spin on the game in ways that it doesn't really warrant.

FFXI is, by its very design, a party-centric game. Not all classes can safely and effectively solo DM's - not when they're rated as Decent Match for a group, and not as a "one man party" of one character. At best it's slow. At worst it's borderline suicide.

Beyond that, you still need parties quite alot in FFXI to complete many of the key aspects of the game, such as missions, quests, etc. etc. You simply cannot solo them.

Some of the jobs you list as solo-friendly require a player to get at least to 30 and then unlock them before they can be effective. Then you have to make sure you have the appropriate jobs leveled enough as subs to make them work. And so forth...

In short, the game has its opportunities for soloing for those who are truly driven to do it. I think I might have met one such person in all my time playing. You make it sound like the game is highly soloable, when it really isn't - and even SE will say this.

Again, I realize you want to put a positive impression out about FFXI, but you're really painting an inaccurate and too-pristine picture in some of your recent responses.

In another thread you mentioned how you can find groups at any time of day - this isn't true. This has never been true and it's the one thing that has been a gripe for many people, almost as long as I've played. There are people who have given up and left the game because of it, or switched to "more popular jobs" just so they could get more party invites.

There are many variables besides what time of day. To name a few: What job are you playing? Is it one of the "desired" jobs at your level range? Are you playing the "right subjob"? What timezone are you in? Etc. etc. There are times where you can go hours without an invite simply because your timing is bad, or you're "in-between" waves of players going through a specific spot.

So yes, in many cases you can find a party with relatively little waiting, but it's not so easy as you depict it and there can be hours or even days at times where there's a lot of waiting

You tend to give good and detailed replies to people about FFXI, but I'm seeing your love of the game getting in the way of your objectivity. FFXI has its share of "issues" that everyone deals with in their time playing and while it might not be enough to turn someone away, you should at least be forthright about them.

it is not a right game fora a solo player. P.S I have learned a lot from this thread

    I would say:

    • Party 75%.
    • Solo 25%.

FFXI is definetely balanced more towards partying then solo. You also need to get at least one job to level 30 to even get access to the more soloable jobs.

It's a party based game, with solo possibility's if you put in some effort. S game which needs a lot of you personal patience. Not a game for people who want everything in a matter of hours. This is a serious social game. It always has been, and it should also probably stay that way.
