It is not so simple in LOTRO

Hunters probably do most damage , but they are ranged class with weak armor

Burglars can do a lot damage also , but it is situational

What I would go for is Champion,

They do lot of damage , AOE type too - plus they wear heavy armor and can heal themselves

I concur with Lobot. Team up with a Minstrel and a Champion is nigh unstoppable as well.

I agree with the above posters as well.   Hunter is the flat-out damage king.  As long as whatever it is drops before it gets to him, or is nearly dead.  Which they will be.  Problem is with multiple mob pulls where the Hunter cannot get off a series of shots before the mobs engage and start interrupting.

Champion is much, much more resilient.  Can take on multiple mobs, but needs skill.  Very high DPS and lots of Morale (almost as much as a Guardian).   Paired with a Minstrel for healing, watch out!

Note : No class can effectively solo Fellowship quests at same level, or even one or two levels up.  And it is virtually impossible to solo Epic chains while they would still mean something.

So, the real answer is to play the class that best fits your style.  Get into a freindly guild.  Do PuGs whenever they are available (if you are not in a populated guild).   Don't worry about being defeated; making it to 20 without being defeated is highly overrated.

    Good Hunting.

And what did you get for it?

    An amazing Trait ?

Or just a Title that will soon be discarded when a really meaningful one comes along.

Congrats on making it to 20 with your Burglar !

But like I said, a highly overrated Deed; nothing to fuss about.  :)

Grats Lobots! I actually really dont count any other title or trait as highly as The Undying. Then again.. I never play a charecter after hes defeated. Ive been up to level 50 without dying as a loremaster, then after a rather unfortunate turn of events was eatten by a drake. Which leah to my sons career as a guardian, who retired upon defeat at 32 then I proceded to have a stint of mistfortunes and finally Im back on track as a Minstrel. I guess the title really can be a huge mechanic to the game, if you want. Otherwise its just.. fluff.

Yup!  I agree with you 100%

My nephew won't play past a defeat either.

Sadly, it really frustrates him and causes him to stop playing until he gets over it.

I applaud you for playing 'Permadeath' the way it should be played, voluntarily.

    You have my respect.

( Do you RP on Landroval?  In a PD Guild? )

Hunter -- high DPS, ranged. Weak armor and not real good at melee

Champion -- high DPS, melee, good armor, some AOE

Burglar -- good DPS, stealth, backstab

Lore Master -- good DPS, ranged, pet class

    Minstrel -- healer, decent DPS

    Guardian -- tank, ok DPS

Captain -- buffer, ok DPS, pet class

If you want to blast them from a distance, go Hunter. If you want to run in and mash away, then Champion. All the other classes are lower DPS, but have other skills.

Thanks for your support Shoal. Actually its hard to find people to group or guild with because Im a PD. Most people see it as a hinderance since they just want to cycle through battles at the most efficient pace to level. Thats in total opposition to my style since I dont want to fall in battle nor do I want to speed through content because I want to learn. The irony is once I make it past level it becomes quite easy not to fall in battle. Rarely ill rp survivable continuations if I fall in battle after level 20 which I was surrounded by friends and revived. If they retreat and leave me, I rp that as death.

Hehe amazing how many styles of rp you really run into. Sad more people dont experiment with PD. Its not as scary as youd think
