Rise of Kunark was well made, lots of fun, interesting, and brought many new ideas to playing eq2. I enjoyed every minute of it. How many minutes are there in 6 weeks? Because thats how many minutes it took to finish all the new content of RoK save a few raids. With all the time we spend waiting for new releases, and the money spent buying them, paying monthly fees etc... I must say I am terribly disappointed. I guess eq2's players are going to end up like matrix online, swg, and the other soe games that seem to have very little time spent on infrequent updates. Does a game have to have 9 million accounts to get proper attention? I even went and started a sarnak and played through the new area's there. With all the fun of this expansion (I use that term lightly here) it was too short, too little, too late. After 8 years with SOE, and end game characters in most of their games ( eq, eq2, planetside, swg, vanguard and matrix online) I have decided, based on the time between expansions and the lack of longterm content in this expansion, that I am going leave SOE and play another mmo. Which one? I have no idea heheh. I have played some other non soe game trials and betas over the last couple years, and although I havent found my new game, I cant see paying for SoE anymore for their lack of content updates, and for charging full price for an expansion that can be finished in just a couple months. Its been fun and if anyone has any advice on where to go next, I would greatly appreciate any hints.
Rok is fun to play but to short pay for.

Go outside. Get a job. I mean holy cow dude. I hit level cap in about a week, and I have a TON to do yet. I haven't even gotten anything from VP yet, although we have done it. Seriously, if you've "done everything" then you definitely need to get out more.
And yeah, having 9 million customers makes a difference, lol. It is a FACT that EQ2 updates more content than WoW by a pretty wide margin. Expansion every 2 years, and a patch every 3 months maybe... Yeah EQ2 is terribly spoiled compared to the competition.
You really need to get out more. If you've maxed all the factions, finished through red and white temples in group play, finished vp AND maxed out ts'ing, that's a TON of content in 6 weeks? Do you sleep?

Sorry, video games aren't a job for me. Sorry that's how to play the game OP.
Jesus after re-reading your "review" I had to come back and edit. LACK OF CONTENT? Are you serious? Alright have fun playing these other MMOs that have no where near the quality or quanity content of EQII
you may want to leave mmos altogether if content is your issue
EQ2 is surpassed for amount of content by only 1 game
--> Everquest and its 14 expansions

I have to say....what other game can surpass this game for content.
Now, I could understand wanting to leave SOE games as you have been playing SOE games for 8 years...yea..I would get bored also...
But, don't expect anything close in regards to content or playtime...
You finished all the content in 6 weeks...think of all the many people who finished BC in 1 week...(a TON)
Yea...you had it good...but, you need a new hobby now..
Take a break, and have a life...
Cheers!
Yeah, i dont think content is the issue for you here. EQ2 has tons of content. I started playing when the new exp came out and I have yet to hit 50. Also a lvl 31 tailor. To me it sometimes feels like to much content, but never to little. I have 2 kids, and go to school full-time. I've yet to see any of kunark, but im guessing its got a lot. I'd suggest re-rolling, doing a profession, playing LoN, or mentoring to find new friends and enjoy gaming. But do not make it your life. Games are meant to be played for fun, life is meant to be lived. Play games and live your life to it's fullest. Possibly even take in a sport hobby or two. But you will not find another game with more content unless you go back to possibly DaoC or EQ.
RoK is an amazing expansion especially for new players like myself... I think it's the best starting area in any MMO to date and they really should get a trial out there for those interested.. on the other hand though is the fact that if I leave RoK early to play with the rest of my guild I give up the chance to haev extremely good gear for my level which is unfortunate that it's so uneven over the continents
Wow, do you sleep or go to school? Holy crap. You must do nothing but play MMO's. Man, you need to get a life. EQ2 has more content than any other game out there and constant updates with new content added.
Seriously, if you're playing this much, you need to get off the internet and go do something else. For a very long time. There's something called "internet addiction" you know. You might like to look it up. And consider it a viable thing.
Even if you shoot directly for max level, it won't take only 6 weeks to complete unless you do nothing else but play the game.
How do I know this? I play fairly constantly and have since release and have yet to reach max level.
Get off the net. For your own sanity.
RoK is better value (or any MMO expansion for that matter) than any other game out there. E.g. Kane & Lynch recently cost me twice as much as RoK and i got maybe 6 hours out of it, im still going on the RoK content.

true ppl expect to much from mmorpg expansions
lol well I see the Fanbois have jumped on the wagon as usual. only two response from someone with less than 4 stars, who seem to spend as much time here, as they do gaming lol. Guys, even the official review here at mmorpg said that the content was less than EoF and the other expansions. Now I do play alot, no doubt. 5 to 6 hours a night, 5 to 6 days a week. But then again I am disabled and although I do go outside everyday, and physical therapy 3 times a week, wheeling myself outside at night time is just not a good idea. The last couple expansions took much more time to complete with the same character. Now pull your heads out, be objective, dont get so emotional about a game lol, and let me know which previous expansion had less than RoK. And to the guy who got to 80 in a week, and told me to go outside lol. Dude you have 386 posts here, Get some sunshine, its adling your point of view heheh.
Have fun and relax you guys, its just a game.
I'd more than agree with the OP that RoK isnt as good as EoF i've said that from the launch but theres loads and loads of content within RoK that cant be denied, its just a shame its all pretty much the same sort of content..i.e kill X twenty times over for feking faction.
I unashamdly love EQ2 but this expansion has been a disappionment for me at least and frankly it wont last me the 12 months before the next one its just a good job my wife is playing with me now otherwise i really couldnt see myself going on with it but with her playing alongside me its a great place to be again.
I like EOF best,
but Kunark is my 2nd favorite expansion of EQ2
Kunark is worlds better than EQ2s 1st expansion, Desert of Flames
DOF may take longer to finish - but thats no measure to me what a good expansions is
FUN is my measure

DoF and KoS had way less content than RoK. EoF may have more content but its spread out so for a lot of people who only really play one or two toons you dont get to experience it all unless you roll a new toon and start from scratch. So for me RoK has got the most content in an expansion to date.
Exactly right its how long it keeps you going back to it is my measure of any expansion pack, with RoK well i've not been back there ither than to do my frostfell tree/wreath quest in kunzar jungle for about a month or so since i leveled
RoK was tons of fun and had lots of new stuff I loved, but all the previous expansions had more content than RoK. I have never seen soe do anything out of the goodness if its heart. Almost all of the improvements made in eq2 over the years have been from player forum post pressure and a need to compete with other games. This is why I posted.
May the Good drops be yours
Do NOT delete EQ2 from your drive. A fresh install, even with the RoK DVD takes 24 hours to patch. And will halt and not auto-restart several times during the process. SOE did NOT put the latest release code on the DVD nor did they include the patch files on the DVD.
This long download is not due to connection (have cable that can run up to 3m).
Do you have to buy RoK
for some reasson i thought it was going to be a free Xpack ?
tempted to check it out but im not arsed to fork out more cash for it
ROK is an expansion that costs cash
ROK includes all previous expansions and all 3 adventure packs

The OP is right about one thing - EQ2 is not for him.
Those of us who play and enjoy EQ2 wish you the best of luck...
...elsewhere.
Ya I'd personally say wait until something else comes out.. so its at least new (for the OP).
Because everything out atm is in my opinion.. crap.
i think rok has a lot content, but the problem is that a lot of this conetent can be completed fast. The huge amount of solo quests can be completed a lot faster than the claymore questline in KoS as an example. The claymore line was what kept people busy for months with KoS, without it it would not have lasted that long. KoS had less dungeons, less instances and less quests than RoK. Dof had a bit more instances but most of these were short so its about the same amount of group zones conetent than in rok, but there also the epic questline and the other heroic questlines kept people busy. EoF also had only 7 heroic instances which were spread out over the whole level range (RoK has 6).
Like i said the problem with RoK is not the size of the expansion, its that most of it is fast solo quests. the big epic questline that kept people busy in the older expansions is still missing, cause the epic weapon quests did not make the release. as far as i heared they are planned for next Update (but not sure if thats still the plan or if they get further delayed).
LOL
From 70-80 in a week in a raid guild is pretty easy, in fact, it's expected. I play 4 hours a night and 6-8 hours on weekend days and still have not completed everything in RoK. EoF was bigger than RoK, but RoK is larger than DoF, and a good bit larger than KoS which is the true smallest expansion to date. RoK had a whole 1-20 content in it with city and more dieties. Larger zones than any previous expansion INCLUDING EoF. Yes, it is possible to blow through those cheesy solo quests, still not finish the language quests, or the collection quests, or the faction that lead you to beyond those quests. And I know for a fact very few guilds are in VP and noone has beat Trakanon yet. So finished all the content, impossible. BTW, I'm posting at work, where I can't play.
"Granted thinking for yourself could be considered a timesink of shorter or longer duration depending on how smart..or how dumb you are."
To the OP, I can appriciate your position of being disabled. I know what your talking about.
But you should have know you would get flame broiled with that "short review"
Also, I do agree with you on being inside at night *winks* I have to do the same myself.
Anyhows, I really think you should retire and leave EQ2 to the more causal folk and play Final Fantasy 11, or Lineage 2.
Those games will definatley give you the challenge and time consumption you need. I would recomend FF11 though, just my prefernce.
Heck you might meet some nice Japanse people you can party with and learn some Japanese Language. Also FF11 has another expansion out very soon, if not already released.
The neverending contentfest that is WoW has had ... mmm ... let me see..... ONE expansion featuring NO new races and NO new zones for sub 60 characters.
EQ2 is a completely different game to the game I originally bought, if thats not enough for you then you have some issues beyond gaming.
