Can you solo to level 50?

ShariShari Member UncommonPosts: 746

Hi there, I just wondered if it is at all possible to solo to level 50? I enjoy grouping, but I can't stay at the computer for long periods of time.

Yes it's possible to solo all the way to level 50 but you will run into some periods where it's best to group up to get some of the good groupquests for better gear.

If you like to play a lot of alts then you can quest/grind mobs until you run out of rested XP and the move on to another character that has rested xp and do that with all 5 slots.

When you have rested XP mobs give you double XP so it's quite possible to grind mobs for XP/Levels.Most of my xp from 45-50 came from grinding mobs while having rested XP because i used my destinypoints to get more rested xp when it ran out.Quests will not give you double XP when you have rested XP.

Another thing to remember is that while grinding mobs for XP you might as well grind those mobs that is the same level of you AND that you need for the traits you wish.A finished trait/deed gives 1-2 bubs of XP so it's worth taking that too.

Also, it's worth mentioning that equipment isn't the be-all-end-all in this game that it is in some others. You can craft average stuff with just basic recipes that will get you through most things, and that's if you're not really pursuing your crafting field with any serious dedication. If you do pursue it, you'll be able to make some of the best stuff in the game. You won't have to craft a thing if it doesn't interest you, however. I tried this out with my level 49 guardian, and I had no extraordinary difficult fighting mobs my level wearing nothing but vendor armor. The only content you need excellent equipment for is content you wouldn't be soloing anyway.

You already got the short answer. Yes, it is possible to solo to 50.

Now for the not-so-short answer. Yes, it is possible to solo to 50 if you don't mind to miss a considerable amount of content Turbine built into the game and if you don't mind to grind mobs.

Now for the long answer. In LotR you get most of your XP not for killing mobs but for completing quests. I don't know whether there are confirmed numbers somewhere, thus just let me estimate that about 30% of the quests are group quests that you cannot solo. However, it's entirely possible to just ignore this group questing part and to earn XP by killing mobs. Nothing in the game will stop you doing so but your own sanity because doing a single quest can easily provide the same XP as grinding 50 or 100 mobs. :)

    Good luck!

The way you describe it makes it sound as if there's a massive period of levels where you can't find solo quests, which I think is a misrepresentation. It's true, there are gaps here and there, but they're very small. Evendim filled in most of those, Goblin Town filled in some more, and the Angmar revamp is [theoretically] going to address the rest, and it's not like Turbine's just going to stop adding updates at that point.

Also, even if you did choose to "grind mobs," doing so is the only way to build many Virtues, which most people do anyway. The game isn't something hardcore pvpers will enjoy, it's not something the sandbox crowd would look twice at, but the thing does have a significant amount of content for soloers and groupers alike. Since most of us do both things rather than solely one or the other, that works out pretty well.

I solo about 70% of the time, and I've never shaken my fist at the screen in frustration because I was out of things to do. Then again, I'm a slow leveler and haven't reached 50 yet (despite playing since launch), I don't like pvp, and I don't like raiding; I'm sure that fist will be shaking soon enough, but not because the game's lacking quests. For the sort of game it is, I think Turbine has done an excellent job with it.

Not quite the truth about questsXP Vs grind XP.

At level 40+ a standard quest gives you like 3-4000 XP and an even level mob gives you 300 or so XP when you have rested XP so that's only 10-15 mobs to have covered the same XP as one quest.

For me it was far more rewarding grinding mobs that doing quests at higher levels when i had rested XP to spare.

Yes you can, but you will have to skip alot of storyline content which is group centric or wait until you are beyond the level range of said quests and try to solo or duo them.

One thing I found a bit difficult about the quests was that they where not so specific about where u where going, it was more about an area than to a certain spot, and look for something more that a specific thing. Not all the quests but a great deal. Might have been me that didnt take enough time but it seemed a bit to fuzzy. So i woudnt try to solo all the way, but if u are ....cheers mate ;)

Not the ideal thing to quote one's own post but just to confirm - as other people already have said - that I was wrong with my estimate.

Did a normal level 29 solo quest with a level 28 captain today, noted the xp gained and then killed level 29 mobs. Needed 27 mobs to get the same xp as for the quest. Thus I was way off with the "50 or 100 mobs" from my original post.

    My apologies.
