A buy or not?

creative404creative404 Member Posts: 72

I am debating whether to buy TR. I played the 3-day trial and I had a lot of fun but I was not convinced. How is the game after you hit level 20? after the starter area and should I wait for WAR/AOC or should I play TR now? Now that I can get the game for $20  is it a buy?

I dunno the 3 day and beta was enough to convince me of no buy....the community is a weird cross between counter strike and banished wow kiddies.

Lol...haha I agree with you there indeed.

I would say that if you are the type to rush through and get to Max Level as fast as possible to do the endgame content, then I'd say wait, and don't buy it now.  there isn't much in the way of an "endgame" implemented yet, supposedly that's going to be starting to shape up in the first Major Update next month.  you'll rush up the max level and be bored.

if you are that type, then i'd wait a few months and revisit the idea of purchasing.

otherwise, i say, you can't go wrong with 20 bucks....

Thanks for the response JMadisonIV and I agree you cant go wrong with $20, and what is the max level? I currently have a month to play with LOTRO so it is either go back or play TR. I think I might just go back to LOTRO.

I would say wait for the next game, or possibly, maybe, perhaps, come back to this one in a year or two if it is still around.

I have leveled a few characters from first through the low twenties just to see everything I could see... what I didn't realize is that I had seen everything there was to see as far as the gameplay by the time I had finished the tutorial.

Post 20th?  It is the same exact thing as post 4th.

I would say, hit Borders and get a few good books, take a class in History or do something else to fill the gap until the next MMOs hit the market.  Tabula Rasa is only a waste of money and time at this point.

The gameplay dosen't change when you get tier 4 skills?!  if you are really that ignorant about the game why don't you refrain from posting about it?

I have not seen "everyone" saying any of this. I've seen "some" people saying it. but not "everyone". and I've yet to hear crickets.

sounds to me like you are wishing and hoping that other people don't enjoy the game, to justify your own opinion. and you seemingly hope that the more you say that there is no one playing, and that EVERYONE hates the game, the more it might be true. but it's just not so. We all know you hate the game. that's you right. but don't exaggerate by saying that everyone who plays the game hates it as well.

i took some of the issues in your other thread, and brought them up in chat while i was playing about a half-hour ago. particularly that about specialists and not being able to click-target for healing and buffing...and surprisingly enough, none of the many people who were playing had problems with not having to click-target and play whack-a-mole. in fact, they preferred it. they did say the Single-Target LoS needed a little work, but overall they did not want the click-targetting whack-a-mole heal/buff system that you desire.

sorry dude, it's just not Asheron's Call. and it isn't going to be. good luck in whatever game you move to in order to bash it cause its not Asheron's Call.

and everyone, let's remember the #1 Rule of MMORPG.com: If you like it, then you are a Mindless Fanboi who is being paid by the Game Company to like the game. If you hate it, then you are a rational poster with valid opinions.

I think Tabula could be a fun game, but once again like all MMO's that are coming up now it will be in like 4 to 6 months from now.

I got it at launch and will say that for the first 15 levels it was a lot of fun.  The trouble is there just isn't much to do beyond fighting right now.  The crafting is just fubar as everyone no doubt knows.  It just isn't smooth at all and really needs to be fully redone I personal think.

Anther issues was a lot of lag.  I was playing on the east coast server and a lot of times I would just lag and lag to the point that it made the game not much fun at all to play.  I don't think it was my connection because other games work just fine for me, so I am under the assumption that it is server side.

If your looking for something new and that can be fun, I would say give it a look.  Just make sure you know that its missing somethings.

TR is a quite pointless game imho. I never felt that level was worth much nor any thing in TR makes me feel like my character is going any where. I would not buy it and wait.

both WAR and AOC look promising. I am placing my bets on WAR, however, AOC looks like it has stuff to offer also.

PS This game is in no way worth a sub. Go play D2 or soem fps in the mean while you'll enjoy yourself more.

    Everyone always says.....

Wait till Age of Conan and War. Believe me, I am waiting for these titles as well. But I believe both games are very well overhyped. And your going to have peeps posting flames about fanbois or whatever on both these games as well. So get ready for it. Everyone is going to find FAULT in any game title that is released till next Christmas and beyond!

Age of Conan comes out in March unless they push it back. And War is scheduled for next year, but they havent even released a time as of yet.

If your looking for something different to try, then try TR. Unless you wanna keep grinding in WoW or whatever other mmo game you may be playing.

At least this TR is released now and the devs have been working on the game to improve the content and quality for its customers.

If you think TR is a failure or if your being manipulated by the nayers. Then by all means, stay away from the game and enjoy the game that is occupying you now.

Dont be a troll like alot of the peeps from this website about a game they dont even play anymore.

Its not trolling its 12+ years of online gaming experience. I'd rather go play a diku based mud than TR becuase i know a few the are done better. (IE all text based game). Infact I did a bit after playing TR. The fact is is that if you have any experience with serious MMO/ online games TR is in very poor shape compared to them.

    Why?

You character never develops. Ok you do do thing to make them different but overall the impact is minimal. You do the same stuff you do at level one as you do end game. The weapons are pretty much the same you may get a few new ones , however you old ones/types are often better to use... "so why did i level up to get the ability to use a gun that i'd rather not use" . . .  "Thats right fun huh", "No not really".

Crafting . . . . "What crafting??"  "Oh you call that crafting, I see..."

So the point of this game is. . . .  What i eman is this game is fun because . . . . Ahh F it there is no point to this game after playing this game for about 5-7 days you'll ask yourself, WHY?

The OP should not listen to the views of those with reservations about VG, because he is "being manipulated by the nayers".  The OP should listen to you because ... of what?  Because he should be manipulated by you?  Come on.  Your view is as good in standing as the others, none of the others here are trolling posts.  They all try to reason.  There is no need to call them trolls.

I tend to agree with those you call nayers.  TR is different from the other MMOs in that it is a futuristic fantasy.  This makes it less common than elves and dwarves.  However, that alone is not enough to make it fun, or specifically worth buying.  A little more elaboration here for my 2 cents.

There is only 1 race.  There are not many classes.  Whether that is good or not depends on what you want from a game.  Given that there is little end game content, those who want to play alts after hitting max cap will want more races or fancy customisation (like elaborate talent trees).  Those who want crafting will find the TR version less than grand.

Some of the NPC guards are very active.  They actively fight the NPC banes and give the impression of an active world.  The NPC banes comes from the drop ships, that makes more sense than the elite dwarven king XYZ sitting idle on a chair forever till you pull him.  The whole world is somewhat more lively when I first play it.  But this gets old fast, as there is a lacking in fun things to do, just shoot and shoot, and again shoot.  My impression is, HGL actually is more fun to play as a shoot and forget game.

The community is not as good as I wish.  Granted there are less crappy WoW nonsense, yet the community is somewhat cold.  People do not actively communicate, many are too busy going about their own business, or coming along just to shoot down those you are shooting and move on.  Its played out more as a solo game with some ganging-up for the occasion then good-bye.  There is little long-lasting groups, as there is little need for them.  I feel like the early days of GW.  People meet up for a purpose, get it done and move on.

I still log onto TR once in a while, using my toon on my friend's account, when he is not playing.  None of my friends are keen about the game any more, and among the many of us, only 1 maintained an account, which might be cancelled soon.  The general feeling is, there is little urge to log in and do anything.  Its just log in and think about what to do, and usually logging out very soon b/c there is nothing compelling in that game.

But, why should the OP be "manipulated" by anyone?  Why not try out the free trial and see for himself?

To the OP, read this: www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/thread/160964 and this: www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/thread/160856. They are two good reviews that pretty much sums up most of the problems with this game.

No one here is not trying to manipulate you not to buy this game, why on earth would we do that? What we are trying to do, or me at least, is to warn you of the problem so you dont buy a game and then cancel it in two weeks because it didnt meet your expectations or lived up to the hype.

As for me, I thought it was fun for a week or two but then I had to force myself to come up with a reason to log in and after a while I couldnt come up with reasons so I quit. What you have seen in your three day trial is pretty much similar to what you will see in the rest of the game.

EDIT: The above post also have alot of valid points that I agree with.

i like TR a lot, i am distracted currently by mask of the betrayer but how long will that take really?  TR is really fun in the squads and the instances are challenging and fun.  i just have never understood why people trash games in an effort to make them fail.  isn't this supposed to be fun?
