Comments
No !!
Your new laptop looks better than my old desktop and I am able to run it fine. I have to set it on high performance though.
Only thing I see is the 2 gig ram with vista and vg running may be an issue. I am sure others more knowledgable can comment better on that, but otherwise it should run well.
You should have no problems running it on balanced settings. Go for it! : )
I fear that my processor at 1.5ghz might be too low. If so are they expensive and hard to upgrade for a laptop?
My laptop is similar to yours and I can play VG with most settings on really high. My frame rates suck at times, but it is playable.
The differences between our systems
I have a t5200 1.6ghz so only slightly faster
My graphics card is much older than yours. 7600 with 256 dedicated memmory.
I run windows XP and you run vista (maybe the biggest performance boost for VG IMHO)
Long story short, you should run the game just fine unless you get the Vista+Nvidia curse.
Edit: unless you are an electrician, you can't really upgrade laptops like you can desktops. A few very rare types aside.
I max out at 15 fps outside city on balanced....... and slightly better fps on high performance. Pretty choppy... Nvidia curse? any remedy to this?
Nope. Some people with nvidia have real troubles with Vista. Not much that I know can be done about it right now.
As for FPS, I get more than that so you should just play around with your settings. Turn down some things you don't need and turn up things you like. There are a number of things that can be turned down and not affect the visuals of the game to much. Shadow quality, # of dynamic lights, view distance, etc.
Just go through the display options one at a time and read the tooltips. Adjust each one you think will help and test the performance a bit.

also...
maybe turn your res down, and try to get a good stead 30+ frames.
Just some advice, get a custom GUI. I was very hesitant on getting a custom GUI, but I am glad I did. I am using Drox 2.4 and it bumped my FPS from a normal 15-20 to between 40-60. That's a huge jump. This shows that the default GUI is a performance hog and it is very unefficient at that. Just type in Vanguard and Drox 2.4 in your search engine and you will find several sites to download the new GUI. Make sure you follow the instructions.
