Of cause had the PC Gamer review been different and said SWG was a great game then i'm sure Obraik would have been the first to point it out to us :) oh you politician you Obraik :P

I like the fact that they are trying to advertise SWG some more, but, i honestly think they could have done a bit better, Seeing Paintings of the star wars movies while IN the star wars universe just ruins the immersiveness for me, and holo-barc... I dont hate it but its not something id go to spend my money on... So yeah its great that theyre promoting SWG more, but... this buddy program is a lil' weak...

oh and obraik, no one new is going to go to Chilastra, with it being the unofficcial "Carebear server" and all... I really hope no one subjects their friends to play on chilastra, so, good luck finding tokens there. Now, Starsider, on the other hand...

Only one could think of this and its not a surprise that it is SOE. "Looky! We give you in-game items!! please come now!! See this nice painting?! it can be all yours just pay us!!"

heh, first game i would recommend to friends or anyone, is World of Warcraft (or Guild Wars) hands down.

That's what I said too lol! It's like Luke and Obi Wan going on their speeder on their way to Mos Eisley, then all of a sudden a big billboard for Star Wars Episode 4 is on the streets lol! It's like-- Luke: "Hey! I was in that movie! Whanna go see it and see how I destroyed the death star?" (did you see the pics I did in like page2-3? lol) Any chance we can convince SOE to have Vader do a couple of theater shows as well? since that's about as Iconic and Star Warsy as these dumb posters

Carebear server?  This coming from someone that plays on the unoffical "RP" server :P  We actually just had an entire guild that left for WoW during Pre-cu return back to SWG...and although I'd rather they were Imperial, another Rebel guild from some backwater server is about to transfer to Chilly.

As for the posters, do remember that the people that feature in them were famous in the Star Wars world and were all over the Holonet.  It could be possible that someone made a poster based on the events that happened surrounding these people.  The posters are all based on EPI to EPIII and they don't have any text on them.  I'm sure some will call that all spin but meh, it's more RP then anything ;)

Dont diss the RPers...i'll let them know your hiding in here if you do... then you will get it :P

as for your point about the posters, i never actually saw the posters yet, so with no text i can see how that is possible, i had assumed they would be similat to the "A New Hope" poster...i *Hate* that poster :P

Screenshots of the posters should be in the first link I posted at the top of this thread.  They're nothing like the Anniversary painting tho...

Ok, so let me get this straight... this is "advertising", but the 10 other emails like this begging for players to come back aren't? Please...

When you have to bribe players with items that show NO ONE cares about the story anymore it's clear it's a "desperate" move...

I'll start my own SWG... with Black Jack... and Hookers!!!

    In fact, forget the SWG!!!!

Note I said new players ;)  Those other "10 emails" you speak of were all directed at people that had played the game before.

The current one isn't aimed at new players, it is aimed at the folks currently playing the game.  I'm sure the lonely souls currently playing have already tried to con their 'friends' into playing the game, just so they have someone to play the game with.  Now they are trying to use ill conceived trinkets to bribe people into conning their 'friends' into trying the game.

None of which changes the fact that anyone who would try to convince one of their 'friends' to play SWG isn't a very good friend.

I think it's actually quite a poor marketing technique this late in the game - nearly 4 1/2 years old to be exact.

I would have to think that anyone who plays MMO's has already heard of SWG and tried it at this point. As I've said before SWG's best chance of longevity is with returning players, and so far that really hasn't panned out to great success for SOE.

While trying to leave my bias behind, I'd have to say that SOE will have to accept a status quo at best. But I do firmly believe SWG will begin the gradual downward spiral now - atleast from the perspective of it's peak population post-NGE.

LOL..at Obraik getting ol excited cause a guild returned from wow and going to play on his backwater server...That inits self shows how bad the poup is and it is bad my friend I still play and still pay for 4 accounts..

Pre-CU on the finn we used to grieve tranfers or people from other servers, Why cause are server was over fricken crowded as it was and we didnt need some lame ass hogging more resources, lucking into uber crap, and causing gerenal lag with whines in spatial...We had enuff people to kill anytime of the day even x-mas...

Yes I still play, is it as good as PRE-CU or even CU not by a long shot..But I do find enjoyment out of it thus 4*15= 60 per month is money well spent...I just stop expecting anything good from this game long ago..but Im in it for the long haul as I still rather be in a SW settting then playing a fairy wizard

Man SWG players are sure delusional.  Hey spend some time recruiting (basically telemarketing)  at 10 sales you get a referal bonus of a rehashed art concept made glowy, whipeeeeeee.

If I still played I would be offended, I'm not willing to subject my friends to a poor gaming experience just so I can get something lame with no effort or thought put into it (kinda like the game itself).  This is truly a last ditch effort to reel in the ignorant masses, and if this really intrests you, you might want to think about why you play the game.

This was sent to EXISTING PLAYERS, not new players... so you're arguing that emails sent to the same people are not the same attempt of advertising? Again, please... you're as desperate for justification as usual...

Sent to existing players to invite new players...hence the word "buddy" in the title of the promotion ;)

Obviously, you're just as desperate to jump on the SWG hatewagon as ever.

So, now you're saying existing players haven't invited their friends to play before this? If anything this is an attempt to get existing players to fork out $80 for a "special" speeder, and other canon-breaking "rewards"...

I also enjoy your "you say something I don't like so you're on the 'hatewagon'"... I prefer to call it "having taste" & no Fanboi Blinders...

As i see it what they realy are shooting at is geting curent players to make 4 new bot acounts to get in game rewards and pump up there numbers.  This is short sighted as they will need to explan the drop in numbers a mounth later. Perhaps this is a way to water down the anti NGE vote by pointing out losses from other then NGE   /shrug.

  • blotzblotz Member UncommonPosts: 99

"This is short sighted as they will need to explan the drop in numbers a mounth later. ..."

    from this point of view

    mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/thread/161139

makes sense in a very strange way

.... people who buy extra acounts for ingame shinys will not name the nge as a reason why they cancel these accounts after the first month again

  • haxxjoohaxxjoo Member Posts: 924

Only SOE could do a buddy program without any reason for the "buddy" to return and try the game out.

"Hey Haxx why dont you try swg and give me a referral."

    "What's in it for me?"

    "I get shiny trinkets."

"Ya what's in it for me?"

    "Nothing."

"So why would I give you a referral so you get free stuff?"

    "...."

"At least when a friend hits me up for girl scout cookies I get cookies."

    "..."

"You are a piece of garbage."

    "Sorry. NM"

  • darkboazdarkboaz Member UncommonPosts: 160

thats becuse i truly think this is aimed at curent players to make dummy acounts.

Perhaps then it's time to create a 10th Iconic class - the "Dummy".

He can be the new FotM.

Ok, because I just couldn't help myself:

Darth Vader Stars in: Singing in the Rain!

    Oklahoma!

    and West Side Story!

Maybe SOE should consider putting these pics as posters in SWG since it makes about as much sense as putting the MOVIE posters inside the game's UNIVERSE!

Oh shit! West Side Story is one of my favorite films.
