Most original MMO I've ever seen.

I don't know about you guys, but SotNW is the most original MMORPG I've ever seen.

Reasons Why:

1: It's a game that mixs modern age weapons(such as guns) with different magics and mele capabilities.

2: It's set in the colonial times of America-The New World and Land of Opperotunity. Other MMOs are either set into the far future or way before it.

3: This game allows you to create a "family", which is also your PARTY THAT YOU ENTIRELY CONTROL. This aspect is so awesome that other MMOs can't copy it without it being plainly obvious.

4: When talking to NPCs, you zoom up to them. Nothing really special, but original, from what I've seen.

The control you have in Sword is MUCH more evolved than Nightfall.

Original? Partially. A double-fold question. As it may possess some of the more unique features amongst the Free-to-Play market and possess detailed graphics, game text and actual content leave much to be desired. For being free, it is definately worth at least trying, however don't devote too much of your time as it seems shallow in no time at all, like much of its brethren -- hence the problem with current MMOs from Korea. And to continue on a earlier point, while the graphics are "detailed", I give credit to their texture artists for the fantastic work, as that is what it is. The actual engine is clunky, out dated, and slow.

Conclusion: Original, yes. A good game? In the top 5 of F2P, but definately cannot compete against the actual P2P games on the market (as point and case when K2 attempted to launch Sword as a P2P but failed thusly resorted to F2P within its first month of launch).

    Toodles.

I would give the game way more credit then that.  The engine is actually one of the fastest most pristine engines there is.  It can literally support tens of thousands of players on screen at the same time.  However, this is the GE version.  The SOTNW version is clunky because it adds that costum system which probably more then doubled the actual system specs needed.

As was mentioned earlier, the biggest problem with this game is the grind and the linear progression path.  For a game that states its beneficial to have 36 characters so you have strategic choices in PVP.  The grind is too intense and boring for this ideaology.  Sure it can take like a month or 2 to hit max level, but the way you get there is super boring.

All games have negatives.  I could probably come up with much larger faults in other games.

Yea I guess so in my opinion its probably the best f2p out there. Although that may change cause I havent tried GW yet and I think it might beat this one in a few areas.

This is hands down the best F2PMMO on the market (AND IT SHOULDN'T BE IN A CATEGORY WITH GUILD WARS FOR BEST F2P MMO!!! GUILD WARS IS NOT FREE :P).

Anyway, I still enjoy the game a lot.  I spend about 30 bucks a month on the cash shop and now with the sale I have spent a lot more :P.  I guess for me I like the story (while it's in english).  I like the PvP and I like most of the AMs.

Does the game have issues?  Of course, but every game does, at least K2 has the balls to own up to mistakes and actually talk to their player base something a lot of other game companies don't do (I'm looking at you Blizzard).

And I can't wait for the expansion next month, its gonna rock to have new places to level my vets.  Things are getting better and I hope stay that way!

Its a great game idea... unfortunately the development team behind it is incredibly inept. The game has been out since July, and still is riddled with bugs and translation issues, not to mention rampant botting.

They do not ban bots on the first two passes. You get a 24 hour ban, a 3 day ban, then a perma ban. Add onto the fact that getting caught with botting is hard to do as they have no ways to track them... you get tons of high level botters.

If you like the idea of SOTNW go play the singapore version. Its in english, the cash shop is 50% cheaper, and much better run.

I agree with the botting but I personally have never yet seen any bad translations...

Like posted in the other thread the english translations in Granado Espada seem fine at least now they do. I find it easy to read all npc dialogue and such. I see you have been playing a long time by your Xfire signature lol, but are you sure those translations wernt just a problem in the past? i think they are fixed now

In another thread I commented that the translations were all very good.  Since then I found a couple of npc's in Port Coimbra that give you a little one or two sentence bit of fluff that is poorly translated.  But these were not part of any quest and I just found it humorous rather than annoying.  I'm only level 25 but so far I still think the writing is as good and maybe better than mmorpgs developed here in the US.

As for originality .. yes, the setting is excellent and unique.  The story is also excellent if not so unique.  The PvP between Republican and Royalist factions reminds me quite a bit of the GCW in the old SWG.  But overall, yes, I'd give Sword very high marks for originality.

Given that the game is free to download and play I'm amazed that more people haven't tried it.  It has flaws to be sure but I'd rank it up there with most of the subscription-based mmorpgs I've played.
