From what they have said, instancing will be limited, more so than most newer games thankfully. They are supposedly going to have some kind of instancing on demand for areas that when heavily populated and frame rate drops, another geographic instance will be created. However that is still being tested and feedback considered so nothing is set in stone.
As far as dungeon instancing, that should be very limited if at all, but again nothing is certain until release. The developers have stressed they understand the importance of and support an interactive persistent world.
Zones will vary in size, but they are supposed to be large, and persistant. The zoning will not be as nearly as frequent as EQ2, but it will be there. Instancing will be used for Dungeons.
The zoning will not be as nearly as frequent as EQ2
Since there is no information about that this must be wishful thinking.
I believe to have read that they've gotten to the point where transitions are seemless and it's nearly impossible to notice, If that's true, it'll hardly matter how often zoning is applied.

What you refer to was not talk about zoning, but about instancing the zones. Also a bit like EQ2 where you have multiple instances of zones when they become too crowded.

There will be some instanced dungeons...but also some old fashioned dungeons..
Best MMO experiences : EQ(PvE), DAoC(PvP), WoW(total package) LOTRO (worldfeel) GW2 (Artstyle and animations and worlddesign) SWTOR (Story immersion) TSW (story) ESO (character advancement)

Aren't old fashioned dungeons instanced?
<smiles> No good friend there was MMORPG life before WoW.... UO, EQ, AC and DAoC all had open deungeons that everyone could enter. (tough these dungeons where sepperate zones)
Instancing was the answer of Blizzard to camping....and people standing inline to fight a certain bossmob

I suppose in some ways you could call them instanced but also allowing all players access. Some of these zones were massive and allowed for many players to expirenece mass content.
The first true instanced i played was in EQ1 called lost dungeons of norrath. It was the same kind of instanced you see today in games like wow.
The most recent mmorpg to go the open dungeon route is vanguard but i can see instancing happening there soon.

I see that the urge to be condescending was overwhelming your common sense.
Instancing is contradictory to MMORPGs and I truly hope it will be in the game as little as possible. PvP for one thing will be ruined if there are alot of instances where people can hide.

Well of course there will be instancing added in Vanguard. Just as SOE ruined classic EQ they will now ruin Vanguard. Both coincidentally after Brad gave up creative control.

More like EQ2 than like WoW. Meaning zoning like in EQ2. But I do not know whether the instances will be like EQ2/Vanguard or WoW.
