In December's newsletter, EA Mythic stated that in January's newsletter they would be announcing the details of the WAR Collector's Edition (CE) box. So, since we are roughly one month from finding out the details, does anyone have any predictions?
I think a few items (past the game DVD and game manual of the standard edition) will be a given; namely, a DVD that includes some sort of behind-the-scenes footage into the making of WAR in addition to other video content, an art book, and a CD soundtrack. There might even be a cloth map (I have so many from so many other games since I always get the CE, and I never even unroll them...such a waste).
I am thinking that they will want to include something relatively unique, and I bet it will be a Warhammer miniature as an homage to the roots of the game. The CE may even come in two varieties, Order and Destruction, so that players can choose the side's miniature they want as well as the box art.
Oh, and, lest I forget, there will be an in-game incentive, as always. Either a title, a pet (I doubt this one), a piece of equipment, etc. This is the best way for the publisher to get players to pay twice or more for the CE as they know players love to flaunt limited stuff. I swear, the person who thought of the idea of making a CE of games to boost retail sales profits by gigantic amounts is a genius.
Anyway, those are my predictions. Oh, and, let's have a poll.

pretty much agree with what you think will be included.
However, they may include some kind of subsriptition/ founders deal or something, although this will probably be included in any preorder.
I am almost certain that some kind of Warhammer miniature will come with the CE...maybe even an exclusive piece of scenery for your game table as chances are they can only include one miniature, and I cannot imagine them making a CE for each army. But if they did do a CE with a miniature...I am guessing an Orc for the destruction set and a Dwarf miniature in the the order one.
Soundtrack/making of DVD is almost certain, as is in-game item. I heard something a while back about a T-shirt being included, any credibility?
I for one will certainly be picking it up......especially if Paul includes a set of his infamous white sunglasses!
I'm definantly going to get the collector's (at least one copy). I'm hoping they put in fluff pets (just for looks like in GW) then I will buy two copies .
I already paid off my preorders at Ebgame and plan on upgrading when the CE is announced (hopefully soon).
It would almost *have* to be a wargames mini,
in which case I would buy it
RIP Ribbitribbitt you are missed, kid.

Well looking at two past CEs:
LOTRO - Complete mess with the EU version, wrong items (such as the map given was on the completely wrong materal, which the site misterisusly changed at the last second to the 'correct' one in the box...which wasn't stated when everyone preordered) and MISSING items.. Besides all that added days (shame the gold ed has that for the standard price), a figurine basic metal one, an added item in-game (actally useful) and a buddy key (again shame the gold ed now offers better).. Oh and the added 'lifetime offer' which then was opened up to all so it was 'cheaper' for the preoder lot... all for £50? meh..
TR - Making of DVD, a few maps, a bio on 'General British', a poster (all three desent artwork), some random crap, dog tags (plastic apprently) and a few in-game 'pimps'... meh for 50 quid..
Just to compare on the console side
Bioshock - A collects ed metal box for the game, a making of CD, and a lovely colourful desent sized 'Mr Bubbles', for £35 not bad..
The so far the best CE I've come across so far:
NWN2 - Two versions (lawful good and chaotic evil) each with their own figurine (although plastic), a engraved ring each different with the two versons (cheapish metal but damn better then those plastis dog tags), a music and art DVD, a really nice Art Book each again different per version (really nice quality on the book actally 'feels' booky), a free 7 day trail to DDO, a poster map, and a full version copy of NWN1 with expantions.. all for £40 damn...
Now with the WAR CE this is what i'd expect IF they want qualitiy (mostly agreeing with Sornin)
Both Order and Destruction versions each with their own furgine (don't really care if it's plastic or not) either a 'making of' DVD, soundtrack, Art book with their own versions, some sort of world map, some acatlly USEFUL in-game starter items unquine to each version again, possibly a extention to the free game time, throw in a DAoC trail and make the CE box actally wroth displaying.. I'd be happy to pay £35-40 for that
Bring on the WARRRRGGHH!
While I know a number of people who buy CE editions of games I've never understood why someone would waste their money. In general, you get a couple of trinkets that you'll go 'ohh cool' for about a week then forget. The only time I would ever consider getting one is if you got something noteable for use ingame (which I don't believe they should ever give out).
To each their own though. Too many hobbies for me to put extra money into a CE box. I do hope they have some good quality stuff (assuming they even bother with one) for you guys who do like buying them. Some of the CE packs I've seen have been really pathetic.
I'd half agree with you there: some if not most supposive 'CE's out there offer you no more than a 'making of' DVD and slap an extra £10 on it, but with things like figurines they are somewhat specical as you know that after the CE run is finished thats it theres no more of that made.
I personally take pride in having my giant (from NWN2) and Mr Bubbles on top of my tv, as you said each to his own, but like I said too many CEs out their aren't really worth anything but wont a lot for them but theres the odd one or two which are worth the extra cash which oddly end up being cheaper then the crappy ones but either way a CE is ment to offer more then 'just' the game.
Bring on the WARRRRGGHH!
Ive never been that impressed with collectors editions. When it comes down to it, the game is 90-95%% of what I want. I dont care that much about strat guides or trinkets. Because of this, all I need is the cheaper game box
Torrential
Torrential: DAOC (Pendragon)
Awned: World of Warcraft (Lothar)
Torren: Warhammer Online (Praag)
Gief ugly white sunglasses !!!! they have to, since they have been used in so many podcasts. it HAS to be in the collectors edition ! and if they included some warhammer models ( some of the leaders etc) with a bit of painting it would be sw33t... pure warhammer style
Nope. Not a chance. I don't believe they will include something that truly makes enough difference for me to pay double the original cost.
If there is something neat ingame items then yes.
I am not going to pay more for an art book and/or a behind the scenes dvd.
Extra storage bags or some neat craftying stuff. Or a guide with maps they Yes. I am also a sucker for capes. If you all your alts and main's can have some cool capes then yes.
If its just a lame(lame meaning it can't fight) pet or some weapon/armor I will get rid of after a bit of leveling then no.
I voted yes, but have reconsidered no. With the Everquest CEs and the Vanguard CEs (won't mention shipping), I never ended up giving the extras a second glance. I have a shiny coin with Lucan D'lere on it... somewhere I think. Halo 3, I didn't get the helmet but I got some extras and to be honest, the most interesting thing was a mini-game called Warthog Physics.
What does make me regret not buying a CE though, is when special items or abilities are given that have cool graphics in-game. The shiny running in CoH, etc.
If a unique Warhammers mini is offered and made of metal, wood, or ivory.... I might.
Wait, not ivory.
In other news...
With EA's financial backing I think that this game is going to be big and if some sort of pet or something is included like that in the WoW pack and the edition is truly only making a limited amount of copies then buying a few would be a good idea seeing as the price of WoW collector's editions has skyrocketed.
That reminds me of all the people who purchased the limited edition of Halo 3 mountain dew and tried to sell it on eBay. I think some of it's still being auctioned.
Don't go eBay with WAR.
Go Amazon.
Typically I feel CE are rip-offs. However, I suppose if there was a decent incentive to buying the WAR CE I would, but it would have to be pretty good. I am torn between AoC and WAR and I feel that one of them will inevitably be a flop....my guess is AoC because WAR seems to have a more proven to work method. We'll see though....
