What are the chances of the buyout between the Indian company and the Japanese company to be true?
Is SOE bought out? Is Smed frantically posting on the internet in the middle of the night without a clue?
Or is it a big joke dreamed up by a few websites?
I hope it's true. It must suck to be Smed. I mean, nobody likes him or his games. Must be a crappy feeling reading everyone's posts about how glad they are for the chance to see him fired.

1) If true they would destroy their player base.
2) I doubt Zapak has the knowledge or experience to run a company like SOE.
3) If SOE was on the market there are other entities out there with the MMORPG experience that would do a better job.

Zapak wouldn't know how to run runescape, and not saying SoE would do any better, because yeah, they're not, but at least they can keep some games moderately interesting by simply not messing with them too much or messing with them just enough and backing off, ala Vanguard. SoE actually isn't terrible until they begin the "milk it for all its worth" process which doesn't seem to begin until the MMO has aged properly like some digital wine or cheese.

Mainly due to the fact that its pretty clear that it was all a baseless rumor, and a pretty poor one at that, and tossing around MORE posts about it is just obnoxious. It's over, we can stop spamming every board about it.

The key thing being "quoting unnamed sources." Anyone could have said "Oh yeah, they're gonna buy them" and suddenly boom, news story. Besides, if Smedly said its not happening, as much as we all hate him and wish to beat him with blunt objects, legally he wouldn't be able to talk about it one way or the other as is general policy regarding mergers/purchases until the deal has gone through, or been rejected, or as is more likely the case, its rumorfodder.

It's so fake it isn't even funny.
1) Activision, company about quarter of the size of SOE, was bought out for around 280 million, Zapak claims to be buying SOE for 300 million.
2) SOE has a wealthy mother corporation to keep it afloat for decades
Their gaming industry is the worse in the company, why wouldn't be an option?

Also, the size of a company doesn't matter, the projected profits and the money tied up in property (intellectual and otherwise) do. SOE has had a lot of failed and semi-failed projects, so it's not beyond reason to suspect it might be ditched for a bargain price.
Whether the takeover rumor is true or not remains to be seen. It has high amusement value though.
