how many?

So I got this game and actually enjoyed it, and I was considering reinstalling it but I would like to know how many people still play. I understand that not many people play but is there a server that still  has moderate to high population??? thanks

If your looking for the highest pop server that would be "Seradon"

    It's a PvE U.S. server.

Population on all servers should be higher then normal due to the free game time Vanguard has extended to previous subscribers whos accounts have been inactive for 60 days.

Yeah but i doubt it will really make much difference because like myself once i cancelled my account i deleted the 20gig worth of game and i don't think too many people will be bothered downloading 20gigs worth for a game they cancelled for what ever reason.

I cancelled my sub again for the 3rd time around a month and a half ago, because it was just too dead all around and during the hours I played. I was on the PvP server.

Plus, I got tired of running all these ramdisk things to speed up the caching and whatnot. I dont know how much improvement they could of possibly made within a month and a half and how many people resubscribed, but I dont think its any better.

I keep going back and forth, checking to see if it ever picks up, so far, its still not a go.

the world is pretty large and starting areas are spread out.  once you migrate to a larger city area you see more people.  In the starting area's you only see one or two people.  it really depends one where you are how many you see.  there isn't however one single place that really draws in many many people.

Estimations  from a website (estimates are the only thing we can get due to companies not releasing their sub numbers) is roughly around 35k for vanguard on the servers.

As ive played VG for some time, I think this is a good estimate.  It may gradually climb if SOE gets their head out of their ass and starts adding things like flying mounts (not the rent ones) and more high level end content. there is already too much content for under 40th level.

    Playing: Not much actively.
Games played: to many to list, been playing MMO's since 2001

It's a nice list, however it doesn't reflect the number of active players if it's taken from vgplayers.com. It only shows characters that ever made it to lvl 35 and above.

A couple of weeks ago (before the free time for old accounts) I did a player count when I got home from work and logged on to Halgar, the lowest populated PVE-server. It had 1208 players online at 6.30 pm (a weekday, don't remember which one - I only play Monday-Thursday so it was one of them). I'll do a new count today and post the numbers later.

My characters are still listed when I do a search by level, and my last subscription to the station pass ran out 10/29, with my last login to VG somewhere in early Oct. They showed up prior to my last resub as well, and the last time I'd played was from April sometime.

So, I'd say that using VG players as some sort of metric of how many people are currently playing is a bad idea.

And going through and /whoing your way through the levels isn't much better, as it only gives a rough snapshot of a particular point in time on one server.

The only ones that know exactly how many people are logging into VG is SOE, and they're not talking.

I have been playing Vanguard again and I find that on Seradon there seem to be plenty of people. I have only made it into one of the cities so far as I just recently returned to the game, but I have seen a boat load of people playing.

That Guild Wars 2 login screen knocked up my wife. Must be the second coming!

It sounds about the same number I have had. 1200-1500 people sometime beetween 8-10 pm. The funny thing is that you have had around 35-45 lvl 1-5 (120-170 lvl 1-10) on these last months (the highest count I've seen for 1-5 is 65 or so) but in general those number is what I see most of the time.

Even now with the free time, lvl 1-5. I expected it to be alot bigger now though. But I only checked a couple of times the last 3 weeks.

I'm so broke. I can't even pay attention.

"/whoing" is the best tool at hand, and even it only show the number of logged on characters at that moment it gives hints about the population trend if used over time. Lowest number I've seen on Halgar was just short of 400 sometime before the server merge. After the merge until first part of GU3 it was about 800 (not that strange since 2 servers with about the same population were merged).

I would say that until first part of GU3 I don't recall seeing one single question from a newcomer in the chat since release, but that changed dramatically at some point and now you see it all the time. For the population that is a very good thing since one big obstacle as I see it for VG is that because of the too early release an all the bad reviews and "word of mouth" a lot of people never even tried it to make up their own mind. A free trial wouldn't hurt, but it's coming soon(TM) I heard...

VG Players shows all players no matter how long they have been inactive. I simply punched in level 50 Necos on Seradon and I didn't have to look far, the first one on the list has been inactive since June.

This also goes without mentioning that nearly all remaining players have rolled multiple alts, and multiple "players" from your list are tied to single accounts.

    Red: True

Blue: I came back for the free game time and Im having a blast with my Bard. So im resubing at the end of the period. It worth the download time for me.

Seradon is the highest pop.  But actually too high... some folks are doing Xeth instead.

  • elf8blisself8bliss Member UncommonPosts: 304

Seradon server has a high population if your worried about the player population. Xeth is a close second. I play on Sartok (PVP server) which is the lowest populated server, and I have no problems finding players for my gaming needs.

I agree Seradon might actually be reaching the point of having to many players.  I have had no problem getting groups on alts on Seradon in all level ranges at anytime of day.  I would be curious to know what Seradon's peak population is during prime time.  Is it peaking at 2k, 3k, 4k or more?

The general rule of thumb for calculating number of active players is take the number of people playing at peak time and multiply by 5 (assuming 20% active are logged on).

I guess the problem is on you're side then, we're all swedes in the guild and we don't have any problems with latency (about 150 ms avg. on Halgar)

  • ThillianThillian Member UncommonPosts: 3,156

THe population is all right. It has around 1000 people online on Halgar server. The world is huge and could have more, but now with the recent travel changes it's easy to find a group to do anything. It was a little problem before, because people on other continents didn't want to join a group on the other, because the travel could take very long.
