Thinking about upgrading to a full account but I'm curious as to how much time an average corporation 'demands' from its members.
Previous MMOs I've played had a mix of casual and hardcore content for the more laid back guilds. For example, in DAoC I could go dungeon diving with my guildies a few hours during the week or do RvR when I had a lot of free time. Not sure how to describe it other than ; I could have fun at my own pace and still be considered a productive member of the group....sorta thing.
I'm interested in EVE because it seems like each corp. is either at war or preparing for war which is a different kind of 'fun' chaos. That, and I prefer PvP that serves some sort of function rather than just be another grind. However, since the steaks are much higher for everybody involved, I'm starting to wonder where a casual gamer would fit in all of this.

It really depends greatly on the corp. There are plenty of casual Corps in Empire just doing missions and mining, and there are also several hardcore-corps who demand very much time..
Keep in mind, that the average age in Eve is quite high and many players have a job and family in real life. Those people are in 0.0 warfare too.
Generally i can say that many corps do not demand you to be online at certain times. In 0.0 there are announced ops, but rule #1 in many corporation is: Rl first.
There are corps for all needs and type of playing, most of the corps are quite laidback but there are more elite corps whit higher demands on members.
But you can easily waste tons of hours in any corp reguardless on what they request on their members.
You as a player dont need to be part of a corp but i recommend it just for your game time will be so much better and fun, you could and can create a corp of your own where you set yoru own rules and try to recruit players with similar needs as yourself.

Thanks for the reply guys, see you all in game.
No corp. I've been in has ever demanded that I must play X amount of hours, or X amount of days a week. EVE players are more relaxed and laid back for that sort of thing, and the only request I've had is in a 0.0 corp. who asked that, when I'm online, always try to make the Call to Arms as lots of people in 0.0 can take advantage of the space they're allowed in to make nothing but ISK, and then leave.

My corp hasn't seen me for the last 2 days, but I am sure I will still be in the corp when I get back.
