I am around your age and personally recommend lotro, no escaping it does have its issues but all in all I believe if you give it time it will offer you what you are looking for.  If you do dive in, try to immerse yourself in the community quickly because in my experience the middle levels are group quest heavy, it helps to have good people around you

In a game with millions of subscribers and thousands on each server, such as WoW, you'll run into annoying people and obnoxious kids (or people acting as such). I'm in a casual raiding guild in WoW on a PvE server largely made up of married couples with children and others in their twenties, though even we've got a few kids in their teens, but they're of the more well-behaved kind.

I'd strongly suggest you find a game that's fun to play and not let a few problem people make that decision for you. If you'd like to give WoW another try and are looking for an older guild, drop me a line.

As someone else who's "Way over 30" myself I'll echo what many have suggested already. EQI, EQII, DAOC, LOTRO & Vanguard. Don't know if you're into the Super Hero / Villan thing but I'd also submit CoX.

I've found the childish annoying people are usually kicked from groups within minutes there. People who normally act out usually tone it down since CoX gets group orientated post 30.

Forget AOC for now..my computer is only  mediochre right now......
Makes me miss some old gems like Meridian 59 and Underlight..
    thanks for suggestions in advance..

I think I'd suggest LoTRO or EQ2, like most other people here, but the real reason I posting is because I didn't think anyone else remembered Underlight.

As far as EQ1, there's nothing wrong with a game designed in the 90's, as one previous poster LOL'd about.  I think people who haven't played in the last couple of years would be surprised how much one game can change. It does have an older, more mature player base, but I don't think I'd recommend it for starting for the first time now, or even starting fresh for a second time, unless you bring your own group.
