Q1 of 2008?

gillvane1gillvane1 Member, Newbie CommonPosts: 1,503

Ok, I know there are probably 15 billion threads like this, but it's the new year. Happy New Year! It's now 2008.

Is WAR going to ship in the first quarter of 2008? Does that mean I won't have to wait longer than March 31st?

They pushed back the perspective timeline almost two months ago.  I think its late Q2 probably Q3 now.

Crap. There is nothing even close that is on the horizon any time soon.

Eh War wont drop till summer of 08 i predict  june or july of 08.

But brighter horizon 360 is dropping alot of good games this year if you have one. Like Lost Odossey comes out Jan 8th. It's a RPG thats suppose to redifine the rpg genra completely.

It doesn't come out for a while still, though I'll have Burnout Paradise, Devil May Cry 4, Rock Band and Lost Odyssey to hold me over for a while.

    Oh yeah, and college. -_-

  • Mercer7Mercer7 Member Posts: 25

Exactly the same plan here.  College... Burnout: Paradise... forum contributing until June.

A questionable source tells me June 21st.   But even if it were a reliable source, there's always a possibility for further delay.

My prediction is late summer.  Not a chance in hell it will go in Q1, sorry.

Agreed, we won't see this till sometime in the summer at best.

Maybe AOC will ship in the 1st Qtr?

To my knowledge its been delayed for financiall reasons from March to April 2008.... The new financiall year starts 1st of April... So i am still guessing April 2008, and with the positive reports from the restarted closed beta comming in all over the place, i think they are right on schedule.

Actually I believe Lost Odyssey is mid February now - it keeps getting pushed back.

I heard that somewhere too. Well, I believe it's from those Keeps 'n Sieges
they are adding. As well as more game development on top of that.

  • TraceGaleIIITraceGaleIII Member Posts: 48

Regardless. The game will come out in June or July Mythic knows they cant push the game back any further with other MMO's coming out. AoC and Aion and all the other uh....CRAP thats coming out pushing it back would just result in everyone else switching to something diffrent and then them loosing intrest in WAR.

    But not me :)

In a way, the more they push it back, the better. it means a less bugged, more fulfilling game. Like this whole Shift towards open world RvR instead of what they thought should have been instanced, or the whole adding of Keeps again. Who knows what other vital changes they might make within those extra months.

They are not delayed due to financial reasons, EA is giving them FULL support to do things the way they want.   They've never stated an actual date just quarters meaning they're arranging their time line around their development schedule.   As we all know from the Herald and the Newsletter they've been making alot of changes due to beta feedback which means they need more development time to add it in, change it, and test it.     That has nothing to do with finances if they were having a financing problem I'd be seriously worried about EA.

It *hopefully* means a less bugged, more fulfilling game.

There's very little precedent of MMO's where delay has actually equalled enough improvement.

You could also argue that their shift towards open PvP and keeps, ea Untested Areas in their old concept actually make the game more prone to being bugfilled/prone to exploits/balance issues  than before unless the appropriate testing time is spent on it.

I do admit the shift to keeps and open RvR was a good choice though but *just* delaying and saying it doesn't make it automatically come true.

Delays don't really jeopardize subs, IMO, unless something GOOD comes out first. Of course, it's impossible for the WAR dev team to know if something that is going to release before they do, is going to be good or not.

If AOC comes out first, I will try it if it gets decent reviews. If it gets lukewarm reviews, like a LotRO, or a Tabula Rasa, I won't bother.

I am obviously behind the times as far as keeping up with the latest WAR development news, but to hear that it won't ship Q1 2008 is quite a disappointment.

This is where deep pockets make the difference in development, and beta. If you go into beta, and find some things need work, it's crucial that you fix them before release. If you have to release because you run out of money, you don't get a second chance to fix things, and I'm sure the dev team for WAR knows this.

I played a bit of Vanguard, and I really don't care if they fix it up all nice and spiffy, and finally turn it into a fun game. I'm not going back.

OP you should sign up for the Warhammer Newsletter they give you all the details, first looks at screen shots before they put them on their own site etc etc.   Its probably the most informative newsletter about a game you'll ever get.   Even the AoC one isnt' as informative.

I agree with this strongly. Historically, games that delayed a lot ended up being turds despite the extra development time. Look at Vanguard - it was delayed over a year total, and was terrible. Gods and Heroes delayed until it was put on indefinite hold, AKA cancelled. Darkfall has been delayed for at least three years (though they never announced a release, they anticipated one a long time ago) and will probably never see the light of day, either.

I am not saying WAR will be bad - in fact, I think it will be good. I am saying that delays are not always indicative of polish, though.

I mean, really, a truly great development team would ideally have everything so planned out that they would know exactly where they were going and when they could launch. Unrealistic, probably, but keep in mind that delays are never a good thing, they are just "less worse" than releasing early. The best scenario is no delays due to excellent time management and planning resulting in a polished game at release.

Mid or late 2008? WTH has become of the game? Werent they close to launch almost half a year ago? I mean, you can "improve" a game to death, ya know. I mean, its good to see they add great things like castle sieges, but they can leave some things to expansions. I mean ok polishing is always good, but I think they can add things later, still.

Make haste! I am bored! =P

They decided to change some of the key feautures, because of response from the Beta testers...things like that take time and can't wayt till after release. that just takes time... And it seems that devs finally have learned that you need to release a somewhat finished product instead of a payed beta game.

    Way to go Mythic...

Im glad their taking time on this game.

And theres always stuff for expansion packs.

I think they took a look around and realised they just didn't offer enough, so made the wise decision to delay and offer a more competative product.
