The AC2rebirth is way off. Turbine is working on a new unannounced project but it would most likely be a AC1rebirth or completely new extension of Eberron.
I was really hoping this was true, i know ac2 was a dud at the start, how could you start a mmorpg with the chat system shot to pieces grr. Near its end it was a really good game though and really it's end should have been it's start .
I have sworn i'll never play a Turbine game after that and so far i am holding myself to it. I couldn't play AC now but in it's time it was the best out there as far as i am concerned. If they remade AC1 to modern standards and released it i bet i would play a Turbine game again though :P.

Purely speculation, but if they are working on a new AC game, why would they relaunch AC2, that already wasn't accepted by the AC1 community and never achieved significant subscription numbers. They would be fighting a uphill battle right from the start. Also revamping AC1 with slightly better graphics would not get them that many new subscriptions because ToD didn't really bump the population up. Turbine doesn't have any other IP's besides the AC franchise and I don't think they are creating one from scratch, so that leaves us with an AC1rebirth/AC3 for lack of a better title.
a new Asheron's Call would give me such joy. No game has even been close to as good as AC. Bring on AC 1.5.

AS of today releasing a new game based purely of what AC was when it launch will be a pure financial suicide. MMO have evolved, AC 1 was awesome back then, but today it would not be succesful.
I don't think it would be financial suicide at all. In fact I think going retro will probably be the game that most likely hits the WoW-like homerun.
The real hard part is getting the formula right. Vanguard had it not launched so poorly would probably be successful. So that does show that there is demand for a game that is not in the current linear fashion. AC has a little bit harder of a challenge because it wasn't a big hit even when there were just 3 main MMORPG's out. The combat needs the biggest tweak and that will make or break a new AC over anything else. Turbine also needs to give players the freedom in character development that AC1 had but make the class and race choice interesting like AC2. AC2 does get a bad rap because it was better then AC1 in a lot of ways, but it wasn't a better game overall.
IMO Turbines best bet is to really just make a new AC that captures the energy of early AC but a game that is vastly different then LoTRO and DDO. Something that appeals to old Asheron's Call fans but something that can draw in new customers that are fans of olderschool MMO's that doesn't compete directly with their current games. I think that market is there and I think it was the same market that wanted Vanguard to be a success. It may even be the same market that is anticipating Darkfall. In fact if Darkfall turns out to be a success, that will be the exact same nich that AC will need to take advantage of.
Turbine does need to keep a new AC game in the sandbox and pvp oriented mold to stay true to AC and old school MMO fans and to differentiate it from LoTRO and DDO.
I doubt many people would get AC 3 after the horrendous job they did on AC 2. I was a big AC 1 fan and think it was one of the best MMORPGs ever released but as contrast AC 2 was one of the worst and nothing like its prequel.
If they make an AC 3 they will need to advertise it as a AC 1 sequel or AC Reborn. Kinda like Batman Begins did by forgetting all the (mediocre) movies that had been made and returning to the roots of the comic character and creating something that beat everything except maybe the first Batman movie with Michael Keaton. AC 2 needs to be forgotten...

How do you figure? All MMORPGs these days are following the linear/simplistic model which WoW has and I think there are alot of people that wants a sandbox style MMORPG which is a little more advanced. Just like AC 1 was.

As a gamer of both AC games I have to honestly say there isnt that much difference between AC1 & AC2, besides graphics and the way melee combat is handled.
Both are hybrids with level/skill system
They both share the same lore
Both games have twitch combat
Both games have a crafting system where you can created very uniqe items
Both games have random loot system
Same kind of world travel system (maybe that goes under the lore catagory )
Both games (imo) are great PvP games...
Allegiance System
Hmm thought there be more becuase they dont feel that different when playing...maybe its just the uniqe lore that does it for me, dont know. maybe someone esle can manage to add, or remove lol
well there is really no telling, even from hints of a new title out there i'm almost willing wager it won't be Asheron's Call persay. But i guess we neverknow. I would think they would be better off making a game under a different name but make one with the idea and spirit of AC1. The skill based progression and tinkering system rather than crafting is by far the best aspects of AC1 besides the really cool old school dungeons that have traps and puzzles, plus all the ongoing stories that would physically change the word from time to time. The nice theatrical events that would take place was the icing on the cake.
I think if they kept that and added some newer elements like different fighting styles that include dual wield and two handed variants would be great. then went with cool cinematics and story i'd be on that like white on rice on a white paper plate in a snow storm :P

I think Bes makes a very good point, A new AC should focus on the areas where AC1 and AC2 had alot of common ground. I noticed that they did add alot of things to AC1 that were in AC2. Thats the real challenge, make an accessable game while still keeping the old school fans happy. I just saw that AC1 will be adding a faction system for their 100th update. If it is based on Dominion, Shadow and Order that would be sweet.
Random loot is such a great feature that is not in most new games anymore. I really miss hunting for better gear in that manner and then getting it improved by a crafter.
My main problem with AC1 (and why I don't play it anymore) is the incredibly boring melee combat. Even AC1 could update to DDO combat, which is very twitch like and keep everything else the same, I would be sold.

Hmmm... would be more funny if the link didnt just direct you to a page error
lame
LOL on teh LOLLERSk8z
D.
Leave the poor AC2 players alone.
It's bad enough thier game got shut down right after they were suckered into buying an expansion pack.
No need to kick them while they are (still)down.

I would <Mod edit> all over a revamped AC.
I pretty much lost all interest in mmo's very quickly after my tangle with that game. It kinda ruined my future mmo experiance.
AC1 was the tightest game to date. Hands down...
If they remade that game it would be tight...but it has to simplify the components for spellcasting...
but the cast style and resists was perfect
AC2 Blew. Plain and simple.
AC1 was amazing and kept me playing for 4 years. How they screwed up AC2 so badly is beyond me.
