Fluff? Immersion is paramount!

Just wondering if any of the Fluff has been discussed yet!? This being an online "MMORPG", the operative park being "RPG" meaning "Role Playing Game", we need to feel immersion and have heaps of fluff for the game. What I mean by this is as follow (these have nothing to do with Combat or balance - purley cosmetic and "immersive" in nature!)

- Birds flying in the sky

- Birds on the ground which get disturbed and fly away when your character runs through them (as they would)

- Children Playing

- Daily town activities (baker baking, blacksmith blacksmithing)

- Ability to sit on chairs and bar stools

- Ability to lie in beds

- Fish in the rivers/ocean (and fishing as a pastime)

- Non-combat critters (rabbits/foxs/tame dogs, ect)

- Smoke effects from blacksmith and tavern

- Serving wenchs!

- Tons of EMOTES!! The key to immersion!

- Ability to sheath swords/weapons

- Sparks off weapons in battle (like the dwarf in the intro)

- Cool combat moves (that happen automatically) like kicking somebody and knocking them down

- I know there are keeps for RvR, how about Player housing? Instanced if need be!

Any more you can suggest, fire away (also , is there crafting!? - Another factor to immerse the player, so its not all fighting)

Taverns, drinking games, and drunken backward horse races...  are those fluff too?   Can we have some of that fluff?

Seriously, however, I'm big on the details too.  Sometimes it's fun to do something with the guild that doesn't involve making a plan.  Treetop dunken bridge races across Kelethin were my favorite in one of those older games.

Or maybe even easier to add in, card games of some sort.  If we could stop combat to play cards for a bit with the guild it'd be a blast.  Wouldn't need to be spades or anything... although spades would be fun.  =D

I would much rather see devs spend their limited resources on the basic game and IF they choose to add fluff, to do so much after release.

My understanding is that they are focusing on immersion in the battlefield, not too much on useless fluff like player housing right now.  They did mention in a recent video that guilds could control and defend keeps, though, which i think is much better than having a house to hang out in; I want to be a warrior, not a maid.

I think the focus is on battlefield immersion, and the fluff may come later.

I don't think they are focusing on building a virtual world, which is what most of what you described is.

I don't need immersion, I'm here to explore, to fight, and to hold and defend keeps, everything else is secondary.

A game doesn't NEED any of these things in order to be fun.  That's really what I want from WAR, a fun game.

I agree with the OP about the details; they're the things you really appreciate after the initial novelty of a game begins to fade, and let you really immerse yourself. Particularly with this being a Warhammer MMORPG, as while I'm somewhat unfamiliar with MMORPGs in general (I've just been checking out the WAR videos in the sticky, here), I used to be quite involved in tabletop Warhammer, and its setting is extremely rich and deep, which a lot of interesting details (or "fluff") could be drawn from for a MMORPG. I hope they can capture the Warhammer world's sense of depth.

I can understand the other perspective, though, as removing bugs and making the whole thing playable is obviously more important. But a lot of games overlook the details, and are worse for it.

Trust me, I'm quite sure at some point maybe not in the beginning they will have just as much stuff as DAoC does in the form of what you listed there.

Emotes will be in, you know all the SHIMS that will be playing WE in the game will want  a Dark Elf ,oochie coochie dance and tee hee ability for starters (no getting around that). Mythic will be putting in fluff in the game for role players and such, I am sure of this in order to stay competetive.

This is WAR!!! Children playing? HAH!

Anyways...if i remember correctly Mythic said something about maybe implementing guild housing.

Both of these won't be that hard to implant. Maybe not birds on the ground, but in the sky there will probably be.
    - Children Playing
It's war all over which means that they would be slaughtered when the town is taken over, Mythic would probably get sued for that.
    - Daily town activities (baker baking, blacksmith blacksmithing)
    - Ability to sit on chairs and bar stools
    - Ability to lie in beds
Daily town activities is most logical they will be implanted to make the cities feel living. Ability to sit and lie is also not very hard to implant.
    - Fish in the rivers/ocean (and fishing as a pastime)
    - Non-combat critters (rabbits/foxs/tame dogs, ect)
Probably yes. Hope they will be hunted down by the "monsters" around :D.
    - Smoke effects from blacksmith and tavern
    - Serving wenchs!

    Hopefully.
    - Ability to sheath swords/weapons
    Ya.
    - Sparks off weapons in battle (like the dwarf in the intro)
    Bloody weapons don't spark.
    - Cool combat moves (that happen automatically) like kicking somebody and knocking them down
    Ya.
