Asheron's Call was well before its time sadly.  Great game!

Voted yes, and it was EQ. Which makes me think that the first kiss theory could have some validity. However i feel that if my first MMO was Horizons it would not still be my favorite.

And yes, i hope another will take its place. But in four years there hasnt been one yet.

My 1st game was DAoC, and it really was an awesome game ( mainly during the Shrouded Isles era )
I guess you never forget your 1st love.

However, I also fell in love with SWG pre CU-NGE

And not to forget WoW. WoW was a blast in the beginning, but after a while it became clear it was a PvE Raid game, and while fun at times, this can not hold my attention if there is nothing else to do.
I liked the Instanced PvP in WoW, but never loved it as I loved the DAoC RvR.

I also almost fell in love with EvE Online, the only problem there was the awfully slow combat system.

    Me too guilty as charged!

Yes and I hate to admit it, because then many people say it's because of that that I like it so much. But that's not the case , EQ was really great!

  • JenuvielJenuviel Member Posts: 960

My first was EQ.  Having played MUDs for a number of years prior to EQ, the game play seemed extraordinarily similar to what I'd become used to, but with significantly more downtime. I stayed with it for about 6 months, largely due to the novelty of playing a MUD with graphics. Then Asheron's Call launched. I decided to give that a try, which turned out to be the best decision I ever made when it came to entertainment value. I spent 4 1/2 years there, which isn't something I can see happening again with any game.

To those who enjoyed EQ, more power to you. The game wasn't for me, largely due to preferences developed by years of MUDding (when you have 2200 MUDs to choose from, you can get pretty selective). Clearly it turned out to be a more popular model than the one I became so fond of, though, so the history's already been written in favor of EQ.

My first was UO.  Seeing as how no one has made an MMORPG as fun as that game since then- it's still my favourite.  I had more fun later playing PlanetSide- but not really an MMO-RPG.  If DarkFall ever comes out, it will be my new favourite.

The "first kiss" theory is flawed.  The first line of MMORPGs were drastically different from all the others after the success of EverQuest spawned clone after clone, until came clone perfection ala WoW.  So I imagine a lot of people who were around in the beginning and did not take kindly to the latter half of the genre (read: carebear period and everquesternization) will say their first WAS their favourite.  Big surprise...

Hope you got your things together. Hope you are quite prepared to die. Looks like we're in for nasty weather. ... There's a bad moon on the rise.

I first played Runescape and most people started MMORPG's with Runescape then moved on. I moved on to World Of Warcraft and I played that for a little while before i changed to Guild Wars and I'm Still playing and its my favourite MMO. I think that it will be replaced by either World of Warcraft (because i got a little addicted), Guild Wars 2 or Tabula Rasa.

I agree, I have found better and more enjoyable MMOs since I played EQ, like AC and WOW, but my first MMO experience was my favorite. When my friends first introduced my to EQ shortly after it came out I was enamoured with the idea of role playing online. EQ was very challenging but in the end not the RPG I was hoping to find. Like so manythings you love the new experience but then it becomes less exciting the longer you play.

My first was UO but I didn't like it.  I liked the crafting side of things although.  My favorite was a combination of a few, EQ, DAoC and shadowbane.  I loved shadowbane but few things really ticked me off.

First was E&B, but not my favorite WoW holds that distinction.  E&B is close though followed by CoX.

EQ was the first one I played, and one that I played for the longest time (about 5 years).  Although I have very, very fond memories of that game, I would still have to say Planetside is my all time favorite MMO.

No other MMO made me scream at the screen that way that one did

Still wishing and hoping for a "Planetside 2" type of game.

Asherons Call was my first and though I've had plenty of fun in other mmo's, I've never quite felt the same excitement as I did in AC.  I think we are all addicts, chasing the memory of that first high through other games but we'll never quite get there again.
