I remember being put into a seemingly gated off area after leaving the elf intro instance. There was a way out, i don't remember how(i haven't been there in a looong time). It sounds like the gm put you where you were supposed to go after finishing the intro instance.

p.s. i'm not ripping on you, i'm not trying to say your lying or anything of the sort. Just what it seems like to me from what you've said so far. It's easy to become disoriented and overlook things when you start a new game, even for genre vets.

That is possible.  I tried to go through all 3 gates and looked for other doors or areas and I couldn't find anything.  As for the initial problem (not being able to load into the actual game from the n00b instance) I think was on their end. There really isn't any room for "user error" when the only thing you are doing is going through a load screen. :)   Geneva (the GM) even said there was something terribly wrong with my teleporting.

I will say this.  The LoTRO client can be quirky.  Based on my experience I would not place it outside the realm of possibility that the OP has found some insanely rare 1 in 10,000 users bug.

    To the OP:

    Suggestions:

There may be some hidden voodoo that results from the way your particular PC is set up.  If you have 2 PCs, try running LoTRO on a different PC.  If you get the same problem on both, it's something to do with your internet connection.  A bug that rare isn't going to occur by chance on both PCs in your house.

Even if you don't have two PCs, you might  try messing around with your internet connection.  For example if you are using a router, take it out of the equation and plug the connection directly into your PC.  Also, check your firewall and make sure that LoTRO has full access.  Try resetting your cable modem, then resetting your PC.

You might also try a different starter area.  They all have pretty cool stories if you are any kind of fan of the books, so it won't be a waste. The end of the starter instance you were in is that you get stunned by a troll to triggere a cut scene (near the third gate), then you run up a flight of stairs back to where you started and talk to a guy.

SPOILER: if the building hasn't collapsed you haven't triggered the end of the instance.END SPOILER.

I seriously doubt it has anything to do with your account.  If you call or e-mail CS I believe they will be happy to give you a new trial key.

If none of that works, I'm sorry you are cursed.  Whatever bug you've hit is rare as hell, because I've never heard of it either and I've been playing since open beta.  Your only hope would be the tech support forum at the official LoTRO site.

    On the topic of CS:

As for CS (your main point), it's farmed out to a company that handles several games.  I wouldn't say it's any worse than typical for a MMO, but that's only really saying that it sucks balls unless you have a common problem that is easily resolved.

I once got stuck in a boat for a solid week in EQ.  After I gave up on CS (yes, my ticket was open for 7 straight days and never made it to the top of the que) my sister's boyfriend swam out and summoned me out of the boat (how embarassing).

In DAoC I was getting some weird graphical glitch.  After an hour or so rangling with CS I was able to get through to a tech guy via web chat.  He needed me to duplicate the problem and send him a "snaphot" of my PC.  He gave me an e-mail address to send it all to.  So I did what he asked and sent it all to the address requsted, along with another description of my problem, the ticket number and all that crap.  Needless to say, they never got back to me.

I recently bought a subscription to PSO BB for the last month the servers were up for paying customers (at least according to the info on their official f-ing website).  I have not been able to log once during the entire month I paid for, the servers have been down the entire time. There is a thread about it on the official forums to the tune of "Umm, wtf?"  E-mail requests for a refund have been ignored.

    Why the hostility?

Finally, please try not to take all the attacks you are getting too personally.  For whatever reason we get a hell of a lot of trolls on this board, including one in residence.  Apparently LoTRO has some magical property such that you will love it or feel such a burning hatred for it that you will be forced to say "LoTRO sucks!" as often as possible from the moment you uninstall until the grave silences you.

Because of it some peaple here have very thins skins.

I don't want to write this, and you don't want to read it. But now it's too late for both of us.

Thank you very much for trying so hard to help me and taking the time to write out such a well thought out response.

Can't try it out on my husbands pc or check the follow up tickets on mine because my trial ended and no one in account management has gotten back to me.

I refuse to make a long distance call to CS, be stuck on hold for god  knows how long, after the experience I had with in game support.... (unless someone knows of an 800 number that I am unaware of).  I e-mailed them about a new key hmmm, around 4 days (give or take) ago.  Still haven't heard anything from them.

I did try my internet connection, resetting the modem and router, rebooting my computer, making another character, re-doing the instance, I turned my firewall off before I installed the game because I know it can mess with games.  I didn't try a new area because if I logged off they closed my tickets.  Hell, I even replaced my video card, just in case.

I tried everything I could think of.  I hate to say it but I can't figure out anything else it could be except my account.

Edit:  As for the trolls, your right.  Every game/forum has them.  I have them on the forum I own as well.  That is why I said I'm just not going reply to any of the hostile posts any longer.  No sense in waisting my time. =)

The guy that messaged me about my ticket had absolutely no idea what he was doing.  I asked him to manually move my character, which any CSR in any game, even SWG can do.  He acted like that was a horrible thing to ask.  He said he couldn't do it!!  I asked him why not?  If a player gets physically stuck in the world a CSR moves them to another located to unstick them.  He said it was absolutely impossible to move a character anywhere.

He escalated my ticket to a Senior GM and told me they would be with me shortly.  I waited for 4 hours.  No one ever came.  So I logged off because I had to go to sleep.  I log back on to find that they closed my ticket due to me not being online when they came to assist me.  In their words, "We cannot assist someone who is not online.  This ticket is now closed".
I made another ticket.  Waited for a CSR, only to get the first CSR who had messaged me to begin with.  He was of course useless.  He escalated it again.  I made sure that I stayed logged on while I did various things around the house.  7 1/2 hours later, no one had messaged me.  So I went to bed.

The next day a Senior GM had still not responded to my ticket and to get someone to message me I had to file a 3rd ticket.  A Senior GM messaged me and moved me to another spot and then left.  The spot they moved me to stuck me between 3 surrounding gates, none of which I could open.  I messaged that Senior GM back and they ignored me.  Never replied, but was online.

I e-mailed their "tell us how we're doing" e-mail address.  That was almost a week ago.  Still no reply.

I e-mailed account management the same night to request an extension on my trial.  Still no reply.

Finally, after trying to get a very simple matter resolved for an entire week, having CSR's and GM's ignore me, and having tickets closed simply because I couldn't spend 24 hours a day waiting in game for someone to message me back, I uninstalled the game.  I simply cannot play a game where the customer service is worse than even SWG's.
IF anyone comes on MMORPG and asks hows LORTO online for playing, this is the STICKY post that should be shown to any new player trying out LORTO.

How totally appauling behaviour, not just from the GM's but from the senior ones, leaving you online for over 13+ hours and STILL cant be assed to help a potential customer.

Thank the maker i didnt subscibe to this piece of tripe.

To the OP, try Pirates of the burning sea for your new MMORPG, im sure if you try it out you will love both the commuinity and players.

I see you already e-mailed them, and I don't think that number is toll free.  That only leaves the online chat.  A friend of mine had a problem with her key and got it fixed pretty quickly that way.  If you send me a PM with your e-mail I think can also have a new key e-mailed to you.

Best of luck in your future journeys, in LoTRO or elsewhere.

I was in the beta for Pirates of the Burning Sea.  I just didn't get into that game for some reason.  Thanks for the help though.  I am waiting on Chronicles of Spellborn, Star Trek Online, and Stargate Online.   If I can get another key, I may give this one another go, but if my second experience is anything like the first, then I won't be there long.

Yeebo... thanks for all of your help!

I contacted live support and he tried to send me back in game without further help.  Then, after agreeing to stay and wait with me and get a GM once I get the game downloaded again, he closes the ticket and leaves me.  Great customer service let me tell ya.  *sigh*  By the way, how am I supposed to give him the ticket number when he logs off on me?

And this is for the "trolls".

As far as I know they will no longer be running the GM's for Lotro , so hopefully we'll all be better off. I think Turbine / CM will now be organising the GM's in house so they will actually know their way round the game map......hopefully
OMG, this explains so much about the OP problems.

Any of you that have tried a real piece of tripe called Dark and Light will remember that Alchemic Dream was the support for that game too. They were also the in-game GMs and ran the so-called events.

Not sure if they are associated with DnL anymore... I even quit following the news on that game.

The one from the 2nd attempt, Nate, logged off on me and when I tried to reopen it, and account management was closed.  Now I opened another live chat with support and I got the first guy back, Shane.

have you tried downloading the trial from another source maybe and reinstalling. You could have a corrupt file or missing file or something. Not saying its on your end,  its probably not, just narrowing down the causes. They'll probably tell you to anyway..Tech help is always good at keeping you busy for a while. Latest vid drivers and all that jazz as well? Even delete everything in your inventory on your toon. Get rid of anything that could cause a problem...really hope ya get it worked out.

I reinstalled earlier tonight.  I just replaced my video card a couple of days ago and updated all drivers on my machine then.  I can't get onto my account to delete everything in inventory because even though they said they extended my trial until the 10th, when I try to log on it says my trial has ended.

I'm really glad a few of you have.  It is the ONLY thing that has given me hope, or I wouldn't be sitting here trying to still get this fixed.  Although I am not far from just uninstalling it again and saying screw it.

I did that when I reinstalled it.  Thanks for trying to help.  I'll try one last time tomorrow and then it's uninstall time.  Thank you for the compliment.  I'd love to be able to try it out and possibly buy it, but if I am unable to get game support to even get it running, then I'll just have to find another one to play.

Edit:  I did all of that except the windows updates because mine is up to date already.

    Yeebo,

I used the key you sent, made a different race, class, and put her on a different server.  I have now been able to complete the n00b instance, which tells me that it's something with the other account.  Thank you very much for sending me the key.  What server are you on?

From what the GM said they still can't figure out what was/is wrong with that particular account.  When Yeebo gave me the extra key last night I made another character on a different server, with a different class and it worked fine.

So either the elf area is getting that bug back or the account itself is messed up.  The GM said they will contact me when they figure it out (I'm not holding my breath though).
