The really hilarious thing is that Blizzard KNOWS pvp is busted in warcraft. They've come right out and said that pvp will never be balanced because the game was built on a pve platform.
So... what's going to be the end result of this fantastic new move? A zone dominated by warlocks, rogues, MS warriors, or whatever the OP flavor of the month is.

The best quote from them was when they said that they were happy with the state or DoT's, then after much bitching from the players they decided to factor in the +res so it nulls the DoT ticks.
For something THEY thought was balanced why bother changing things?
I understand PvP will never really be balanced, its just funny to see them say "We are happy with the state of things" then turn around and change it.
IMO Blizzard are turning into the new SOE, i remember the out cry of people not wanting the NGE, but SOE still put it in, atleast Blizzard have SOME sense, even be if its only a little.
I think the outdoor towers they added were actually a good addition.. People talked about how noone ever PVPed there but I think that depended on what sever you joined.
On Illidan those towers are always going off in World Defense, but on 2 of the younger servers I joined before I went back to Illidan hardly anyone would fight over them. So agian sometimes people are on servers where not much happens other times people are on servers where it all types of **** goes down.

Not really sure how this will go over honestly. I could really care less myself as I pvp when I feel like pvping and when I do pvp I do it on a pvp server. As far as the pve servers I doubt many will even be bothered with it unless they go for a change or to just try it. Most people who do pvp on a pve server only do it so they have a chance at getting any type of decent gear, especially if they are not in a guild that runs dungeons a lot.
Non-instanced just = Horde being perma ganked. Doesn't sound like much fun to me.
It's nice to see Blizzard responding to the requests of their PvP crowd. Not many games have done as much, not many have been so innovative. PvP in WoW is immensly popular, you can get int a fight in either battlegrounds or in the open world anytime, day or night on any server.
Knock it if you like, but it works and people dig it. Too many people make the mistake of trying to explain why WoW PvP is so lame instead of taking the time to analyse why it is so popular and successful.
If it was bork, no one would being doing it. But they are. Hundreds of thousands of them. Right now as we speak. My money says Warhammer will have copied more from WoW than WoW is going to copy from Warhammer.
I of course prefer my PvP in other games entirely. I'm not intrested in PvP in WoW, War or any other RPG and while I don't imagine spending mmore than a total of 5 minutes in any boring old PvP zone, I do know a lot of my friends who will be. Anything that other people enjoy and that holds their intrest in the game for longer can't be a bad thing. Diversity is the key to a games success in my opinion. Enough fof all different styles to cater for all different styles of players.
I agree withthe above posters thoughts on the open world PvP towers in WoW. The complainers moaned that there was no reason to open world PvP (like anyone ever needed a reason). Now there is. At this point I would be tempted to laugh at the moaners and say that despite Blizzard addressing their issues and adding the exact contact they were all crying for, they are still crying on.....Only, if they hadn't of all cried so much it wouldn't have been added at all. So keep up the good work. Criticism drives improvement.
i'm sure that PvP zone will keep all the WoW fanbois happy... that one pvp zone. But it's good to see that Blizz is taking some pointers from WAR... as far as being to little too late... i'm gonna go with yes. And that "yes" will only include the peeps who have already quit WoW and moved on to other games.
I find it frustrating that people act as if WAR has already been released. People were saying this EXACT same thing about Dark and Light, and look where it ended up. Now, if WAR is released and is in fact the new "king" of MMOs, good for them. I will definately give it a try, but I won't be surprised, either, if WotLK proves to be very successful. I honestly think people are getting their hopes WAY too high for WAR, and will be disappointed. I am not saying it will be bad, but the reality is that the game won't likely stand up to it's expectations.

Why is PvP in WoW popular ...?
- it gives you meaningful equipment without spending hours and weeks seeing loot drop off boss mobs for other people. you work only for yourself and it's going into the same direction as the game general design: you can do everything alone, you do not need others if you choose to.
- a PvP fight 1 on 1 in WoW is extremely fun for most classes with high burst dps or adequate pvp tools. If you win you , feel "skilled", if you loose, you want to go back and have your revenge. On top of that, PvP fight s are , usually, pretty quick, from 15 sec to 1 minute top. therefore not boring.
The main problem with wow PvP is the lack of scope, you just fight for the sake of fighting. There is no goal or objective involving your entire faction. everything is personnal.
I'm pretty sad that WoW is trying to destroy WAR before it even came out. Everquest never felt the need to copy dark age of camelot pvp system, and it was never any less successful.
The truth of the matter is not that WoW is a perfect MMO, it's more about being the Microsoft of MMo and copying the good ideas of others in the industries to surpass them.

Im on one of the largest pop aussies server there is, no one PvP's.
I waited at the twin towers forever for someone to PvP with, sadly if i want my PvP fix i go to a private server =/
On the private server i vist, the malls are set up in AV, so you ALWAYS know there are goin to be Ally/Horde you can annoy, if blizzard did something like that it would be great.
Put a Ally vendor in a horde zone, and you gotta go get him back, do this, get some sort of reward/loot drop.

I think that you have hit the nail on the head with one thing and it is that PvP seems to vary very much from server to server. My mains are on one of the first EU servers and PvP seems to be on a re-surge at the moment with regular impromptu raids on Horde targets and vice-versa. Just last night there was another raid on Westfall and we returned the favour by raiding crossroads and closing the village down completely for about an hour. Eventually we were run out by a mass of horde but managed to continue smaller battles outside the town using decoy lower levels to draw small groups of horde in for a slaughter, lol.
On the tower battles etc. the objectives in the outlands like Halaa in Nagrand and the towers in Hellfire Peninsula are constantly changing hands several times a day, so there is always someone to pick a fight with. As far as battlegrounds are concerned i really only enjoy AV as there is a sense and purpose to attacking/defending the towers which makes it much more fun. I think an open PvP area with AV's sense of purpose and destructable scenery will be fantastic if they get it right, so i guess we will have to wait and see.
PS: Agree with one of the above posts too, i am getting pretty tired of everyone boasting about WAR being the saviour of PvP when the bloody game hasn't even been released yet. I will bow to that praise when it is released and it is proved to be so, but until then i reserve judgement.
It must be Thursday, i never could get the hang of Thursdays.
This is the best news I have heard in a long time, I really think this expansion is going to blow everything what people think about Blizzard out of the water. This expansion really will take blizzard onto a next level. I see alot of former players returning with this expansion. They made the standard wow featured with TBC, and not they have realised people want more and are trying to do their best to give more, as with all things people will whine and bitch as is human nature, but this news is only a good thing imo.
As long as the destructible building are like forts or towers and i dont mean towers like EPL:P but more like Daoc BG then this can only bee good for the game. Also if this pvp area is trully the size of Westfall then imo it will be epic, non instanced and with proper outdoor world pvp pre TBC PRE BG, then I really think alot of former and current players will be very happy. I also expect blizzard to take alot of the grind out of The new xpac as they have done with the level grind at present.
Inregards to Halla, imo hallas was greta fun while leveling up etc and still is fun, this is one of the few examples of good outdoor pvp objectives blizzard did in the game. Even if there were no outdoor objectives and the blizzard took away BG I would be happy with the TM-SS, XR aSHENVALE RAIDS PRE BG. Not all outdoor pvp has to have an objective as long as it is fun.
Didnt they already try to boost world PvP with EPL's towers?
I wouldnt know, no one ever PvPed there....
Yes. Is there a reason they should stop trying?
Because they suck at it?
So far they have added how many new PvP zones? and how much more world PvP have we seen?
Ah, so your philosophy is if at first you don't succeed...quit. Gotcha. Don't think Blizzard would have gotten as far as they have with that philosophy.
Hey guys lets try make a world PvP feature!
*inserts towers in EPL*
Hm well that didnt work, lets try and make things better in TBC, we'll have fresh ideas!
*inserts more towers*
And what they doin for the next Xpac? Towers anyone?
So it's not the PvP zone you have a problem with, only if they put towers in it. Haven't seen any mention of towers in the new PvP zone.
No, i have no problem with that, but there was a thing on MMO-champ one of the devs said it would be a "AV like" world PvP, and whats in AV? more towers....
Everytime the try and make a "new" world PvP zone, they basicly do the same shit every time.
This is just my opinion, but when he said "AV like", my assumption is that there will be "side quests" for people to do that won't be PvP in essence, but will somehow contribute to the PvP part of the zone. For instance, maybe you need to collect supplies to build your siege weapons. Some of the folks could be going around chopping down trees or whatever and turning in the supplies. Once enough supplies are gathered, then a siege weapon is produced which can be rolled over to the enemy to attack their stronghold. If the siege weapon is destroyed, then it must be rebuilt with more supplies etc. That way people can contribute to the war effort without actually partaking in the fight. And how does that help? Well if you are level 70 lets say, you can be collecting the supplies while the lvl 80's are fighting. That way you could be picking up honor while not getting your face pushed in. Something like that anyway. I believe that was there true intention for AV in the first place but they couldn't quite get the logistics worked out and it ended up being just another BG with some weird useless quests in it.
And despite a few hiccups, class balance very well.
They just haven't figured out open-world PvP yet.
This is an interesting attempt at it, I hope it works out, but they will be hard pressed to compete with WAR in the open PvP world if WoW only has 1 zone and WAR has a whole game.
WoW in start wasn't created as PvP game. Yes it had PvP aspects but engine was crap for outdoor PvP. Still is. Each time we tried to have battles like 50 vs 50 or 80 vs 80 at Splintertree Post we would crash the servers. That was few years ago since wow was released on 23th november in 2004. Everyone probably had old TM and SS battle in hillsbrad. IT WAS FUN ! Endless zerging on both sides where skill matter if you are 1 v 2 or 1 v 3, when people had green gear or crap gear.
Since you to your max level which was 60 - not much you could do. Kill Faction bosses and start raiding. Kill outdoor dragons and prevent others in killing them. After a while PvP instances came. No more PvPing in TM/SS, dishonorable kills on stupid npcs where u had to leave group not to gain DK from someone who tagged it, no more boos faction and capitol raiding because you could get DK - oh noes.
More rewards - farming for High Warlord rank and getting first on servers. One thing figured - it was endless. Moved to EU from USA and started from zero. Figured i miss old style PvP alot where skill was more important then gear. Quited game after 2.0 patch with healing downranking changes. Returned recently and leveled again Priest/Warrior/Druid to 70. Was so much frustrating to PvP without resillience (on druid) and still is pain in the ass on other chars ( war, priest, hunter, rog).
Wish game resets and returns back to start where it was on the begining but that won't happen. Played LOTRO for a while after quiting WoW. Got 50 hunter/guardian/lore-master/burglar. Quited and returned to WoW because once u get to the end - not many solutions and monsterplay wasn't that much promissing. Guess endless farming of honor so u can normaly pvp was worthed but it is same as before. Expansion will come out and u you will be sucked to do it again. Really tired of grinding for gear. Prefered old school green gear pvping.
The direction this game is going is not one that favors the raiding crowd as it used to before the expansion launched. The glory days of vanilla WoW raiding are over. PvP is the new deal, and if people don’t want to do that then they can always do some small group content and still get everything they need when it comes to rewards.
Time spent while raiding is beyond a shadow of a doubt no longer worth it to obtain rewards. In actual fact, the whole traditional MMO, no, RPG concept of the more time you spent playing the better your character becomes is thrown out the window by Blizzard. Why?
Because hardcore players who love that concept and play because of that concept don’t make money. ‘Casual’ players do; and ‘casual’ players don’t care about how much time they spent playing. ‘Casual’ players want rewards, and they want them now; so Blizzard gives them those in the form of PvP and Badges of Justice. Of course they do, nine million people play their game, and the vast majority of those are ‘casual’ players.
Blizzard is a company that wants to make money, that’s what they’re there for and that’s what they’re going to do (and doing, quite well actually). They see potential in WoW as an e-sport, and Blizzard knows what e-sport is, they made Warcraft III after all. They don’t just know what it is, they also know what it means. It means money
Could continue like this but just it will be "wall of txt crits you for 100k ".
In other words, this zone will stay empty most of the time.
Don't be terrorized! You're more likely to die of a car accident, drowning, fire, or murder! More people die every year from prescription drugs than terrorism LOL!
Unfortunately it'll depend on whether your can accumulate honor / gear rewards as quickly in this PvP zone in comparison to Arena and Battleground play.
WoW PvP is a game of time investment. That's all. Sure, it can be fun in short bursts, but in the end it comes down to time investment = gear.
Being a skilled player will shorten the amount of time you have to invest, but it's still the same.
EPL is pre-TBC content, it was quite active prior to the expansion. Hellfire Penninsula with it's outdoor PvP areas is still active because of the daily PvP quests there.
So WAR is promising siege combat? Big deal - that game could still flop anyway, at least with WoW we'll know it'll be high quality. So as for ripping of WAR... Warcraft as a franchise is entrenched in this kind of combat, Warcraft players expect this kind of thing. Did you people never play the RTS games - this is what Warcraft should be about!
Still waiting for your Holy Grail MMORPG? Interesting...
the only way world pvp will exist is if they take away battlegrounds and make servers able to hold huge pvp battles... otherwise people wont do world pvp other then the casual ganking while leveling etc
Hellfire Pennisula outdoor PvP that is good joke. Usualy it's horde owning it at least on Vek'nilash and if horde is holding it u can't finish quest. Now with PvP dailys and Gladiator honor rewards doubt someone would bother to gather Marks of Thrallmar . What idiot gonna stand whole day and wait for some opposite side to pop.
Warhammer on other side is older then Warcraft. It is PvP based game comparing to PvE WoW which got remade into PvP over the years stealing most of the stuff from other games just to keep people playing. Don't think WoW can qualify as high and good with all servers crashes and downtimes i've experienced in it. Support is poor and GM's reply usualy when you go offline or on some alt with usual crap response in-game system.
Siege in WoW - have no idea how its gonna work. In AV we had in past 2 bosses you could summon with blood of enemies, gathering supplies to release commandos and gathering ram skins and wolves for Wolf Raiders. Preffered old battles for hours then rushing to enemy first graveyard and winning game fast. Now its all about farming honor and marks to get gear. Doubt this would change.
Lol, I don’t think anything will make everyone happy. WoW was all about the 5 hour long raid to get the epic gear, people bitched so WoW changed it. PvP gear was only for those who PvP nonstop, people bitch and WoW changed it. People say other games have better features then WoW, so they added them and people cry copy cat.
I’m a MMO junky; all I do is play WoW. I was always the first to jump ship to the next BIG game but I always returned to WoW. IMO the LK is going to rock, all I’ve been doing is gearing up in PvP armor and I’m going to be the first in that new PvP zone waiting for the Horde.
All I can say is, if WAR sounds better then go to it. I’ve worked long and hard on WoW, I have many friends and I’m not going to change. Every time something new comes out WoW adds it. It’s the only MMO that truly listens to everyone and trys its best to make everyone happy.
And I'll probably play WoW again when WotLK comes out, even if WAR is out by then and I totally love WAR.
I just hope WAR is good enough to break my WoW addiction, but that being said, I'll still want to check out the content in WoW WotLK, no matter how good WAR is.
If WAR is no good, guess I'll be stuck playing WoW forever.
Blizzard will have to make some huge, HUGE changes in most of their basic design philosophies in order to make WoW truly FUN to play instead of just a grind for gear in both PvP and PvE. Personally, I don't think they have it in them. WotLK will be just another grindfest with maybe a handful of bright spots in an otherwise boring treadmill just like the rest of the game. I hope I'm wrong here, but I have really lost faith in them. They will have to do something really spectacular for me to even consider buying the next expansion.

out of interest what is this "spectacular" thing wow needs?
the only issue with wow for me is the lack of world PvP and blizzard have address a little in TBC with halaa and spirit towers and even more so in WotLK with a PvP only zone, siege weapons and buildings.
The next content patch 2.4 features a town that players build over time based on their actions in the new zone and possibly their actions in the sunwell dungeon, thats a nice feature that looks interesting. and if players respond well id expect too see more of it in WotLK, maybe even going as far as having some servers zones different based on what the players on each server do.
I like the fact blizzard does not make huge changes in a short amount of time and instead take their time.. they have millions to keep happy.. and thats impossible to do.
I think the biggest problem now-a-days is that there are too many people expecting the world out of a videogame.
You get people that play a game and think that just because they decided to pay to play a game it should be tailored to their every whim.
People need to realize that when they decided to play a game that not everything is going to be perfect for them. Because when it comes down to it; developers have to please as many people as possible - which usually leads to problems.
Personally, I hate PvP. I'm not good at it - never have been; never will be - and at times gets really annoying playing in a battleground for a side that never seems to win [yes fellow Alliance members - I'm talking to you... lol]. Not saying Alliance never wins; just that, out of like 100 games, Alliance might would win 10 at most.
I myself am gonna try out Warhammer Online when it comes out. Because I would like to see what it's quests, classes, etc. will be like. I'm a hug fan of RPG/MMORPG style of games and like to try out as many as possible so that I can see how the different games are.
And I never expect them to be just like another - or have to be a certain way or they are just stupid.
Personally I can't wait for the new expansion just cause it will be more to do. But I won't do much PvP. So, all you PvP'ers out there - have fun... lol
Basically what you will have is raid equipped people slaughtering the newbs (just like lvl 70 BGs). It will populated until the newbs get sick of being slaughtered (just like lvl 70 BGs). It will then be a dead, empty, lifeless zone (just like lvl 70 BGs).
Hasn't this idea basically been done in every single BG? You can't have raid gear people fighting blue/green geared people. It won't last. Just stick to PvE, WoW.

Kudos to Blizzard
Blizzard does instanced PvP very well.
Have fun

Sounds great on paper.
Then I remembered my server is 70% alliance and 30% horde. Horde never stick around for any kind of open pvp because they just get zerged endlessly.

I also end up always going back to WoW.
They will have to do something really spectacular for me to even consider buying the next expansion.
the only issue with wow for me is the lack of world PvP and blizzard have address a little in TBC with halaa and spirit towers and even more so in WotLK with a PvP only zone, siege weapons and buildings.
I think the biggest problem now-a-days is that there are too many people expecting the world out of a video game.
So, all you PvP'ers out there - have fun... lol
Well, I'll stop there. That's my two cents worth.
