DDO Combat With Visual Aid!

This is, quite simply, why no other MMO out there competes with DDO for combat system.

played DDO for 8 months i quit because no craft, playing lotro now wich has crappy combat system like WOW has. i really love DDO combat, dungeons, raids and MOBS AI these DDO features are great no other mmo have them. if turbine makes a pass like soe has for all their games, i will reactivate my DDO account.

Crafting, in some sense, is coming with the start of it in Mod 6.  Keep your eyes peeled for details, as no one really has any yet!

    PvP video is horrible.

Jump, jump, jump, jump, kill, jump, jump, jump, dead.

Wasn't there a promise that DDO won't have PvP because D&D is not balanced for PvP combat?

The PVP is extremely limited and entirely optional.  It's basically just a time killer you can do if you want to, some people love it...some will never do it as long as they play the game.

That jump jump style, btw, is exclusively one caster's style...has nothing to do with melee.

Agreed, the PvP was basically added as an afterthought because a portion of the people wanted it, the dev's have indicated that PvP will never be the focus nor will the game be balanced for PvP.

I forget what the name of the song is but I know I've heard it before. I think it's from an anime or a video game.

Edit: The song was used as the opening for an anime called Bokurano. The song is "Uninstall" by Chiaki Ishikawa.

I just had to try the combat system with the trial. I really like the combat system. I am more into sci fi but I think this game has a lot more to offer than what it gets credit for.  I like the stats on the wizard class and especially how favor points can unlock the "Drow" race for a new character.  Oh back to wizards- there seems a ton of versatility with casting spells on the drop of a dime. And the community was just great. I had no problems finding groups at all hours of the day or night. I especially enjoyed the fact that I was playing with southeast Asia and Australia.

I like the combat a ton as well.

Yes it does. I'm really surprised it wasn't a bigger 'hit'. I'm also surprised that the 'awareness' of this game & its unique combat system isnt greater either. It strikes me that it is one of those games that suffers from the 'big hype before launch, people buy the game, either plow through the content within a month or try it for 5 minutes and decide they don't like it and then uninstall the game' & these people never wait around again to see how the game has improved. I think VG, LOTRO & maybe even SWG:NGE have also suffered from this type of gamer.

People who make their opinions of an MMO based on the 1st few months of launch & abandon a game they most likely helped to hype or were really looking forward too, never to stick with it or try it again cause games like this to take a 'back seat'. It is like it's written in stone or something; 'I didn't like it when I tried it X months/years ago'. The very idea of MMO's are that they are constantly changing. Players & the MMO media should keep that in mind, re-trying & re-reviewing MMO's every few months to see how they have changed.

There's no doubt the the game was hurt by a very "content light" release.  Low level cap, low number of races/classes, and low number of quests.

That got it some bad P.R. right out of the gates, and people just never came back to see what was different.  Content is now more than double what was originally released...all for free.  More races/classes are coming, crafting is coming, guild housing is coming, etc.

I think the amount of content NOW in the game is competitive with any MMO out there, combine that with the best combat system and character creation/development and quest style, I think it's easily one of the best games on the market.

That said, it's still what it is...which isn't a PVP game, isn't a sandbox game, isn't a huge world exploring game.  IMO, there's plenty of those already.

    gimme shifters :P

Grouping in Old school mmo's: meeting someone at the bar and chatting, getting to know them before jumping into bed.  Current mmo's grouping: tinder.  swipe, hookup, hope you don't get herpes, never see them again.
